Had a three hour workshop this morning, organized by the unemployment agency: How to present yourself. I feared the worst, but it was actually quite informative. We discussed profiles and curriculum vitae in small groups, which was really helpful.
Then I got home and found my former boss finally paid part of my severance pay from September, but not the amount we agreed upon in my contract. *sighs* It sucks not having a job, but it's honestly so good for my mental & emotional health to not work there anymore.

Moving on. I stole this MUSIC MEME from [livejournal.com profile] sillie82, who made it with 25 songs to guess here. Because I kept getting interrupted while listening to my playlist, I made a selection of 10 lyrics for your entertainment.

Why don't you close the door and shut the curtains 'cause you're not going anywhere...  )
I'll post the answers as they are guessed correctly :-)

REMINDER
The fandom auction for refugees closes in two days: you have until Wednesday October 22 to commission artists and authors for a good cause at [livejournal.com profile] fandom4syria. Check out the fanworks on offer in the BUY IT NOW or AUCTION posts. (Yes, you can bid on me too;)

I was treated to another cool shower shuffle selection from my iPod this morning (links lead to offical vids on YouTube)
1. It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) - R.E.M.1 [Album: Document - 1987]
2. Version 7.0 - System Of A Down [Album: Toxicity - 2001]
3. Here's To The Night - Eve 6 [Album: Horrorscope - 2000]

That was pretty good combination of songs to start the day with:)

Work is wearing me out, but after tomorrow I have twelve (12!) days off in a row, so I'll hang in there for one more day. (I have lots of plans for the holidays already, but surely I'll find time to chill;)

1I really like the MTV Unplugged version from 1991 )

Three days ago a very kind anon offered part of the lyrics I was looking for back in an old post from 2008! Now I'm only missing a couple of words from the last verse and I thought I'd give the flist another chance to help me out;) A fellow fan of 70s glam put this awesome song up on YouTube (audio only):

Want to try to sing a long? )
beelikej: (Bliss)
She was never happy
She was never sad
She never felt that lucky
With the boy she had
One day she just realized a new plan
To share her life with three men

One to make her happy, one to make her sad, one to give her good love... )

Another meme! I've seen this one on my flist a couple of times now, but I think [livejournal.com profile] artistic_sillie was first:) I even managed to guess a couple here and there. \o/
Let's see how well you do!

MusicMEME - Rules
Step 1: Put your MP3 player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.

Hey kids, stop snogging and pay attention to me )

My Kate Nash CD arrived today (My Best Friend Is You). Managed to listen to it in between work. I remembered the moment I fell in love with Kate. It was at Jools Holland's Hootenanny (HOOTENANNY!) on December 31, 2007. *happy sighs* Funny thing is I had this image of just her and her piano, I found out through YouTube she had a whole band supporting her. I didn't notice this. (Obviously only had eyes for her;) Look at her, isn't she precious?

With bonus David Tennant. :)
beelikej: (Books)
I have been quiet these past few days because I'm busy rereading the first two parts of the Green Carnation Trilogy by Floortje Zwigtman to prepare for the third part that (finally!) was released last week.
1. Schijnbewegingen (2005, 497 pages) FINISHED!
2. Tegenspel (2007, 474 pages) on page 192...
3. Spiegeljongen (2010, 607 pages)

Sadly the first two books still aren't translated or I would send you all copies to read. (Promotional excerpts in English here). Seriously. I'm even reading during my short breaks at work and in the evenings I TURN OFF MY COMPUTER TO READ. That's how awesome these books are. *sighs*. Oh how I wish I could share them with all of you.

Instead, I'm sharing songs. I'd love to talk about these, but I have books to read :-)

Enjoy.

This is why I shouldn't attempt anything as complicated as refilling a perfume vial when I'm premenstrual; I just knocked over my bottle of Gluttony, spilling half of it down the drain :'-(

Best not to strain myself this weekend. After the inevitable chores I'm going to (try to) relax and turn up Morrissey. *sighs*

Meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] tanisafan

day 01 | a song
day 02 | a picture
day 03 | a book/ebook/fanfic
day 04 | a site
day 05 | a youtube clip
day 06 | a quote
day 07 | whatever tickles your fancy

Tough choice, but this week my wake-up CD is from Razorlight, so they are on my mind. Also: together with GreenDay they are my soundtrack when giving myself over to absolute pleasure. Multiple times. Something about that beat in combination with the desperate voice. I can't really choose between Stumble & Fall and Before I Fall To Pieces, but the latter was the only available one to share, so that's what you can listen to now. Enjoy:)

Updated my reading-list.

Added new icon to my userpic collection (still aiming for those initial 195: only 74 to go!).

Doing laundry while hanging out on YouTube. Have a clip of the first song on my Ipod playlist. I sang along to this in the shower (play it LOUD)...

I really identify with you, so much )
beelikej: (Pants)
Managed to go to bed at reasonable times the last two days, it's been the smart thing to do with work being crazy at the moment. Look at me being all grown up and responsible :)

Updated my readinglist, will start reading up on Istanbul this afternoon. Only two weeks before traveling!

J. provided me with a shitload of music to try. Am obediently listening to MGMT, R.E.M., Morrissey, The Last Shadow Puppets, Vampire Weekend, The Veils, TV on the Radio, Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab For Cuty, The Hoosiers, The Killers (...), Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay (another...;)

Reviews may follow later.

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

(I played before with the letter E)
Now [livejournal.com profile] artistic_sillie tagged me with the letter 'Z'!

Not a very common letter in the English language. Plus the first song that came to mind was Zoot Suit from the Soundtrack album of Quadrophenia, which I only had available on vinyl. Another song I thought of also came from my old record collection. Luckily I bought a record player with USB connection last year, so I could turn the songs into mp3 files to share:)
Most of the songs I found are in Dutch, but I managed to find three English songs as well.
I hope you won't let the language stop you from listening to the complete list )

Ow-ow-ow. :( I forgot what a pain it was. *whines* Now I remember what I missed last month. Hrmpf. I'm gonna distract myself (and you) with a musicmeme:
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

[livejournal.com profile] crayola123 tagged me with the letter 'E'!

and of course I picked more than 5 songs... )

I started my long weekend off by sleeping in and enjoying myself in bed while waking up with Franz Ferdinand and Green Day. Dookie is still the number one album for multiple orgasms: perfect rhythm with the right amount of emo. Yum.

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] xxshow_girlxx as a reward for actually getting one right.
I suck at these, hope you do better. I've added a lot of new bands to my playlist recently, thanks to the flist. I only heard some of these songs for the first time myself, but there are some golden oldies in there as well.

I took care of step 1 and 2, the rest is up to you:
Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 37 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING! (But it's your karma, so whatever;)
Step 5: If you like the game post your own!

We was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road )

Good luck! This meme will be played all through February:)
beelikej: (Default)
Postspam the first. This is to remedy the sweetness [livejournal.com profile] tanisafan posted. I needed something a little rougher.
I alone love you )

Feel free to mock me if I completely misunderstood these lyrics, but that beat just does things to me.
beelikej: (alotonmymind)
I want to thank everyone who replied to Monday's cry-post: thanks for the support. Your kind comments made me smile through my tears. Sadly it's not in my best interest to go into detail about The Talk. (Though I would love to rant about it) But it wasn't the end of the world, even though I felt like it was. I am doing a little better now and am processing everything that was said, but I'm going to need some time to deal.

At least my back is doing better...

More good stuff: I found an awesome CD this afternoon, shamefully cheap (1 euro!) but trust me when I say this music is worth much more: it's the Best of Terrorvision! Let me convince you by confessing to the song I love the most. It's called Tequila and even though I don't drink alcohol *cue shocked flist - "must defriend her NOW"* and I usually have issues with lyrics that praise its consumption *flailing flist rushes to definitely defriend* I can't resist singing along with this song. It could be because I think singer Tony is the cutest thing (especially when he's dancing!) and I adore his accent, but I say it's the curse of tequila;)
Salt, lemon and lime time! )
