Up a little later than planned, but I had about 230 photos of this day to go through;) I managed to reduce that amount to 44 for this picspam.
After leaving Warnemünde, Germany on Sunday evening August 20th and spending a whole day at sea on Monday, the cruiseship arrived in Helsinki, Finland on Tuesday August 22 around 8 a.m. As I had signed up for a bicycle tour that didn't leave until 10 a.m., I could actually sleep in, have a long breakfast and hang aboard before disembarking to explore the town. It was a bit cloudy, but excellent for cycling (I already had to take off my hoody layer at the first stop). Wanna come with?

Cycling through Helsinki! )

Sources: a special thanks for the information about statues to René & Peter van der Krogt for their excellent website featuring sculptures from all over the world: Statues - Hither & Thither.

I plan to select photos from my day in St. Petersburg next, but with artprojects, family get-togethers and other distractions, it may take a while until the next update. (Not to mention that I made 385 photos that day...;)

Oh, speaking of postcards; please let me know if you've changed addresses in the past year or if you're not sure if I have yours, PM or mail me:

Last but not least: I'm used to traveling alone and doing things on my own, but cruises sadly don't have single rooms and I was really lucky I was able to afford paying double for this trip. I'm thinking about doing another cruise in 2018, but would like to share the experience (and costs;). If you are tempted and interested in seeing the North of Europe (Fjords? Iceland? British isles?) from a ship with a fellow fangirl, contact me! (Other travel or meet up plans are also always welcome:)

Part 1: exploring the ship | Part 2: FOOD!

P.S. I know Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump is not from Finland, but she represents the Nordic countries here, okay :-p
beelikej: (Oral Fixation)
I could not have guessed how big a part of my cruise vacation the food would be. I mean, I knew there was going to be a buffet, but I did not expect the massive amount of choice I would have and how incredibly good the food would be. I also didn't know that dinner was going to be an a la cart menu in a fancy restaurant, every evening. I only ever go out to eat on my birthday, when I take my family to a Chinese restaurant around the corner. (The taste dinner with my mom a while ago was a very special occassion). I was overwhelmed by all the delicious options. The whole food experience definitely added to the fancy feel of my vacation. Gosh, what a treat.

Cruise Food! )

Gosh, I'm hungry. Having dinner at my mom's tonight. As a reward, I will show her my 1600+ travel photos *grins*

There will be another picspam soon, this time with actual sightseeing;)

Cruise Part 1: exploring the ship
beelikej: (Swim)
So last week I went on a cruise:) I had such an amazing trip, I can't believe it was only 8 days; I've seen so much, it felt like a couple of weeks worth of sightseeing! The ship left from Warnemünde in Germany then crossed the Baltic Sea to Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Tallinn, Estonia; with a stop in Copenhagen, Danmark on the way back.
I've made over 1600 pictures in total, so I'm dividing the picspams up in several parts. This first post is about the trip to Germany and the first day at sea. I'm also working on a separate post with all the food, because that deserves a spotlight on its own *grins*.

But first: Cruise picspam - part 1: exploring the ship )

To be continued....

I have not left LiveJournal, I'm merely trying the cross-posting from Dreamwidth to get the hang of it. When I found out they now offer image space, I wanted to give DW another chance:) The last time I made a back-up of LJ was halfway 2014, in the past week I updated my DW by transferring all the posts I made since then. I noticed that videos are not showing, I'll check up on that later. For now I just want to start posting again after a couple of busy weeks. I've been ignoring most of my social media because of a fangirl sleepover and a long weekend in London two weeks ago. Here's a picspam of the latter (I saw David Tennant and Daniel Radcliffe on stage and spotted another celeb in the audience!)

Theatre and Fangirling in London-March2017 )

I have kept up with the Age of Pandora work-outs; did Chapter 55 of 60 today! Will catch up on posting about that tomorrow:)
How have you been?

P.S. Dreamwidth's image galery interface doesn't seem to have an easy posting option, and apparently only allows to copy one file-code at the time, so I uploaded the images to LiveJournal as well to get all the codes at once and speed up my html-coding;)
beelikej: (Narcissen)
Heh, it seems all I do at LJ these days is post picspams. I plan to return to regular browsing and commenting and updating tomorrow. With my calf still healing from that whiplash, I've been feeling very blah and not up for anything after getting home from work (when I finally have managed to climb the stairs up to my apartment) *sighs*
I am glad I had already planned a couple of fun weekend things before the accident, so I didn't have a chance to get down on my days off in the past few weeks:)

Below are photos (and videos!) from last weekend's adventure: I took the bus and train and train and bus to travel down South to the small town of Zundert for their yearly flower corso. The local communities work all year on their huge designs made out of dahlias -all those flowers are put on fresh in the final three days of building the sculptures!- and they present all their creations in a spectacular parade.

I had a great day and whole heartedly recommend going to one of these flower corsos. Zundert is the oldest (and best;) one, but the first week of September these parades are all over the Netherlands; well worth the travel!

beelikej: (Who Mods)
Oops. Had honestly planned to continue with part three of my travelreport right away, but then I got hit with the blues and I spent some time feeling sorry for myself instead of doing things. A combination of a brutal period and frustration about the slow progress with my calf rehabilitation drove me to the edge of the pit of despair. (I also blame the heat, pffff).
I felt guilty about skipping a day of my Hero's Journey work-out and not doing my calf exercises, but after being pampered by my mom on our weekly tv-night, I realised resting is taking care of myself too, and I started focusing on getting back on track. I even tried a bit of cycling yesterday afternoon! It was scary, especially the dismount is tricky, but my calf didn't object to the movement, so here's hoping I can brave the traffic to work again soon.

Who's up for the final part of my trip to and with [ profile] amberdreams? If you missed the beginning and middle of our adventures on the Pigs Gone Wild art trail, click for part 1 and part 2 to see what you missed before moving on;)

PART 3: last pigs and train to LONDON, BABY )

Traveling home )
I had a blast and hope to visit Ipswich again so I can explore the town a little more without being distracted by pigs or slowed down by crutches;) Thanks for a great time, [ profile] amberdreams (and husband P and the fanpeeps in LND)!

beelikej: (Varken)
Woohoo: this morning I managed to do the complete Day 16 Hero's Journey Work Out without any moderations \o/ I also am nearly done with today's Calf Rehabiliation exercises; I only have 5 ankle-alphabets left to do and I can do those in bed :-)
This afternoon I tackled the stairs to put out the garbage and tried walking outside with one crutch. It was a bit scary because my calf feels so tender and vulnerable, so I'm not going any faster yet.

But still: progress! Unlike last weekend when I was hobbling along on two crutches doing the Pigs Gone Wild sculpture trail with [ profile] amberdreams. If you've missed it, you can catch up with part one of my travelpicspam here. Behind the cut we'll continue our walk through Ipswich!

PART 2: who's ready for more artsy pigs? )

To be continued!

beelikej: (To See The World...)
So, hey, I went to Ipswich last weekend and I finally sorted out photos! I met up with [ profile] amberdreams to do the "Pig Trail": we walked all over town to find the Pigs Gone Wild art sculptures (one of which was designed and painted by AM herself!!)
I doubt I could have made the trip with my injured calf if I had planned it by bus, but fortunately I had decided to try a different mode of transport and I had booked a cabin on the nightboat, so I could at least put my leg up during the journey.
But first my crutches and I had to make it on a train to the edge of the Netherlands to catch that ferry to Harwich.

PART 1: Trotting along... )

To be continued... PART TWO IS UP! Even more pigs!!!

beelikej: (roadtrip)
Aaahw, we've reached the last four days of our roadtrip; they are mostly filled with traveling home. First [ profile] tmn1966 and I drove from Chicago back to her place and then the final two days are me flying back to the future to Amsterdam airport Schiphol and taking the train back to my apartment. In between we had a whole day left for hanging out together outside of the car, which we of course spent fangirling on the couch. *grins* But most of the photos below were taken on the road. Are you ready to join us one more time?

Back to Ohio and The Netherlands )

Missed a bit? Here are all the previous picspams of our roadtrip:
part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois
part 3: Missouri, Route 66 | part 4: Oklahoma & Texas
part 5: TX, OK & Kansas | part 6: KS, MO & Springfield, IL
part 7: Chicago
beelikej: (roadtrip)
Oh yes, after eight days on the road, [ profile] tmn1966 and I made it to Chicago, the actual beginning of Route 66:) We decided to park the car in the suburbs and take the train into town, where we were to meet our last fangirl blind date... The lovely [ profile] cassiopeia7 offered to show us around and I'm pretty sure I saw ALL THE THINGS. We made use of a lot of different kinds of transport in town: we sat in a taxi, we got on a bus, did a tiny trip on the L (elevated train) and we walked. Oh my, how we walked. Here's a summary of our day;)

Follow our tourguide! )
Such a great town, such great company. <3

There will be is a final set of photos from our drive back to [ profile] tmn1966's place (with a stop at the airport where they lost my bag two weeks before....) and my flight back to the Netherlands:)

Previous parts of our roadtrip can be found here:

part 3: Missouri, Route 66 | part 4: Oklahoma & Texas
part 5: TX, OK & Kansas | part 6: KS, MO & Springfield, IL
beelikej: (roadtrip)
Oh, hey, before I forget: I posted my artwork for the SPN-Cinema challenge: It's Grease Lightnin'! featuring Jeff, Jensen and the Impala:)

I confess: when I found out JDM is going to be at the Pasadena Convention in November the first thing I did was check to see if there were any tickets left, haha. I'm not going to a con, people. I'M NOT. Shush. Meeting up with fellow fangirls would actually be a bigger draw than seeing J3 on stage, but I prefer the peace and quiet of being a hermit;) Besides: I just went to the USA and nothing can really top the Roadtrip experience and those fangirl-meet up-meals.

If you've been cruising along, you know the last post ended with [ profile] tmn1966 and me traveling up North from Kansas; we have one sight in Missouri to find before we get to Springfield, IL, home of Lincoln. Are you ready to get on the road again? Let's go!

Lincoln's house, Lincoln's Tomb, Lincoln's.... nose? )

Next up: the final destination: Chicago!!!

part 5: TX, OK & Kansas

Ugh, I'm really having a hard time getting used to being unemployed. Time seems to simultaneously stand still and fly by. I just don't know what to do with myself. Obviously I could have done this picspam days ago, but I lack motivation to do anything else but stare at the internets. Today is the day I'm putting an end to that. *determined face* Let's get this thing on the road again!

After being all touristy in Dallas and fangirly in Fort Worth, [ profile] tmn1966 and I started on the return part of our trip with two days of driving back up North. There were not a lot of sight-stops along the way, but there was some good fangirling with: another meet up, watching episodes by way of nighttime stories AND the main event: a visit to Lawrence, Kansas. Want to come along?

Fangirling in Kansas! )

Next up we're getting back on Route 66!! --> part 6: KS, MO & Springfield, IL

part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois
part 3: Missouri, Route 66 | part 4: Oklahoma & Texas
beelikej: (roadtrip)
It took me a couple of days to get used to not going to work, but slowly I'm getting the hang of filling my days at home. I've started exercising and have also picked up arting again! More about that tomorrow, first I'm posting an extra long picspam of the Texas leg of our roadtrip to make up for the wait after the previous set *grins*

There was no sleeping in after our movie night at the Drive In in Missouri; we had a long drive ahead of us through Oklahoma, down to Tyler, Texas to meet up with [ profile] tmn1966's cousins. Of course we included a little sightseeing along the way, after all, we were still on Route 66!

Next up: back up North through Oklahoma again to... Kansas! (--> part 5!)

part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois | part 3: Missouri, Route 66
beelikej: (roadtrip)
This third picspam covers just one day of our roadtrip, but one packed with all the elements of a full US-experience! There was funky breakfast cereal and popcorn at the movies, [ profile] tmn1966, her car and I cruised along the highway and discovered the first of many funky sights and outposts on Route 66. We also crossed the Mississippi river, visited a sculpture park for a dose of art and did I mention we went to the movies? WE TOTALLY WENT TO A DRIVE IN CINEMA, SO FRICKIN' COOL \o/

Route 66 and a Drive In - it doesn't get more American than that! )

part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois
beelikej: (roadtrip)
After all the hassle of me getting to the USA, finally starting our roadtrip was extra awesome. We got in the car a little after 2 pm on Wednesday August 5 with [ profile] tmn1966 behind the wheel. I had originally planned to try and drive, but with the loss of our chill-day to practice and the intimidating traffic with very different rules from the Netherlands, I soon decided that was not going to happen. I'm so very happy T didn't mind; she's a great driver and even allowed me to pick the music! <3 Are you ready to join us? Hop in!

Meeting fangirls, the world's biggest everything and a dragon! )

First things first...
No matter how I try, I simply can't make a small selection of travelphotos, even for a short introduction post, oops. Before I take you along on our roadtrip, I have to get the shaky start of this trip off my chest. If you kept an eye on my Twitter, you already know about this and I did mention it briefly in a previous post, but here's the whole deal. Feel free to skip the babbling and scroll down to the first set of photos. Or the second set, if you don't care for the prologue;)

TL;DR - Flight on Monday cancelled, new itinerary on Tuesday, another changed flight during boarding, arrival a day late and with lost bagage )

Who's ready for photos?

Prologue: I rock at packing, selfies and photos from the plane )
Day 1: Touch down in OHIO, getting ready for the road )

Part 2: the worlds biggest windchime plus fangirl meet ups in Ohio and Illinois...
beelikej: Detail of Jensen Ackles' face (Dimples of Annoyance)
So I was supposed to be on a plane right now, on my way to [ profile] tmn1966 but after the flight to Chicago initially was postponed ("due to to flight crew availability") it was eventually cancelled all together, forcing me to find alternative options to get to the USA.

I'm now scheduled to fly tomorrow, with three planes instead of two, but I've managed to arrange an arrival much closer to T's house, so that's something I suppose.
Unfortunately the airline won't allow me to check in online for this, which means I can stress about actually being on the flight until departure early tomorrow morning, hrmpf.

I've arranged to stay with my brother in Amsterdam tonight, because I would never be able to get to the airport on time from my place.

Funny thing is I'd never been so relaxed about traveling before, which obviously came in handy when I had to stay calm to deal with this.

My backpack is packed (I only had to leave out one shirt) and I'm ready to go. Which of course means I don't know what to do with myself until I get on a train this afternoon.

*sighs* Anyone know of any good distracting fic or vids? ETA: or gifsets... (I'll just stare at this for a couple of hours) [spoiler: it's bare chested JDM in Extant, as if it was a secret that he was cast for that exact purpose *g*]

beelikej: (Kevin)
How did I end up with hundreds of photos after not even two full days in London? I never realize I take so many in between ogling the buildings and walking (so.much.walking). Obviously I didn't post them all, but it's definitely a picspam;) If you missed the first post, it's here. I'm continuing with Easter Sunday when I went to Camden, Choccywoccydoodah and the newly discovered SkyGarden before my afternoon date with Kevin Spacey. (What? I was close enough to the stage to touch, it totally counts as a date).
Ready? Let's go! (Click on the photos to zoom:)

The end.
beelikej: (Who Mods)
After being busy with negotiations at work this past week, I signed a contract of resignation yesterday. The countdown has begun: after almost 19 years on the job, I will be unemployed from September 1st. Obviously I hope to find a new job before then, but I managed to at least make arrangements to avoid an immediate crisis, I'm rather proud of that, considering the circumstances and rather unusual communication within the company. In between looking for work I'm going to focus on fun to keep going. So let me entertain you with a picspam...

I made such a ridiculous amount of photos in London, I'm dividing them into two posts. Part the first: architecture, shopping and a musical. (Click to zoom!)

Day 1: Saturday 4 April )

Continued in part two!

P.S. Did you see I managed to put a background on my phone? *giggles* (I hid it in one of the goodies-piles;)
beelikej: (Canon CSI Nick & Greg)
Look at me, filling in a meme within a day of being tagged! But first a little update. I'm pretty sure I caught up with answering comments and checking up on my flist, if I did miss anything, poke me! Also: I made a couple of new SPN friends this week: hi! *waves*
In other fandom news: tonight is the final of CSI season 15 already. I still need to watch a lot of episodes before I can admit to what's going to happen. No spoilers, but thanks to my mod duties I already know it will have an effect on one of my eldest OTPs, dundundunnn...

Fortunately I still have the Supernatural guys to play with for another season, they will pull me through;) I signed up for [ profile] smpc in April and am looking forward to claiming in [ profile] spn_cinema and [ profile] spn_j2_bigbang. I'm happy to reveal that my next fanart-project is a collaboration with [ profile] dugindeep \o/ We haven't settled on a posting date for this polyamorous (...) story yet, but I'll keep y'all posted on the progress;)

And now, without further ado.... The Letter Meme
[ profile] cassiopeia7 gave me an E. If you want a letter to play, let me know!

Something I hate: EVERYTHING! Just kidding, although I am pretty much a cynical pessimist. Let me think, something with an E... Oooh, I know, I found a film I absolutely hated when looking for an answer to the last question: Employee Of The Month (2007) - I walked out of that. (Don't blame me for going to see it; it was part of the sneak preview program, where you pay for a surprise film)

Something I love: Eyeballs. No seriously, I'm a big fan and have several 'artsy' renditions of eyeballs though my house. I'll be ordering these cuties from Zoozim@Etsy after my next paycheck comes in.
My E-reader, which I have just filled with fanfic again after taking a break from digital reading in favor of getting through my bookpile;)
Also: The Efteling Fairytale Themepark and The Eurovision Songcontest (ssssht)

Somewhere I've been: England (London, a LOT, it's the theatre that's luring me in;), Egypt (2002), Ecuador (2006), Edmonton (Canada 1999), Emmeloord (Netherlands; lived there from when I was 8 until I was 18)

Somewhere I'd like to go: Edinburgh (when I had a chance to go there after walking the West Highland Way in Scotland, I opted for Glasgow (2001)

Someone I know: [ profile] eledhwenlin, E. (my boss)

A film I liked: I'm ashamed to admit nothing came to mind immediately, because after I checked my my movieblog I realized I should have remembered Enchanted, which is one of my favorite films of all time. There's animation, Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and singing and dancing plus mocking that. Be still my heart.
Going through my record of cinema visits from 2004-2013, I also discovered some other beauties I'd like to recommend: Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004), Elle s'appelait Sarah (2010), Elizabeth (1998 + sequel from 2007), The Edukators (2005) and Elephant (2004). Good thing I write things down, huh? Who knew there were so many good E-movies *g*

Speaking of London: I just booked the Knight bus for the first weekend of April. I'll be available for meet ups on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 (Easter) if anyone is around. (I hope to eat at Choccywoccydoodah and mother Mash, both are near Carnaby Street:)
