The only creative community I'm currently involved in is no longer at Livejournal: land_of_art has moved to Dreamwidth! Good thing I have already been (t)here for years as well ;-)
If that is the incentive you wanted to join in, come on over! Phase 24 continues for all of 2025 with new challenges to create graphics every couple of weeks. Fandom is optional. Round up of 2024

I was going through my blog and journals (as you do this time of year;-), and I noticed I completely forgot to share the stuff I made for Land of Art in 2024. My year was mostly filled with work and travel (which was also mostly for work) but I did manage to squeeze in some creative times. So I figured for my end of year post, I'll just picspam y'all with my graphic designs.

But first, to round up this year properly, here's what I did since the previous journal post in October, with links to my photos on Instagram:

I had a quick weekend in London for a play that was cancelled last minute (but I found another one to at least make the most of my weekend in November)

I built a cabinet for my renovated shower

I went on another businesstrip to England as well, where I didn't really go sightseeing, but did discover a lovely outdoors pool that was decorated for Christmas in December

I celebrated Sinterklaas with my family

Hey hi, how is everyone doing and... where is everyone? I'm spending most of my online time on Instagram. Meanwhile I'm hoping more people will join Mastodon or a similar open network so we can all hang out in the same timelines again. I have a BeeLikeJ personal account on http://mastodon.social and a fandom account on http://fandom.ink, feel free to interact on one or both of them:)

I didn't do any fandom challenges this year (as moderator nor as an artist) but from March until June I did join Land Of Art and made graphics! Due to work, all the traveling and home projects I didn't get around to posting them before, but today I'm putting them online, before the next Phase starts. Let's see if it all fits in one post...

Sigh of relief

This weekend I'm cleaning up the final crates of stuff that I stored for the renovation of my apartment in 2021 (yes, two years ago) and I finally found my naughty J3 papercut art that went missing! I have been so worried that it had ended up in between all the stuff I cleared out (and that it might have shocked some innocent eyes, eep!) Over the past few months I had frantically checked boxes, closets and cupboards, but no such luck until now, literally the final crate. I guess my effort to put it away safely was succesful after all, haha.

Anyway, the guys are back on their top-spot on the wall in my guestroom, I'm so relieved and happy!

When I dove back into the archives of my LiveJournal and Dreamwidth to share a link to the artpost, I discovered I made it ten years ago almost to the day and it had been my first NC17 rated paperpiece:-)

Graphics for Land of Art Phase 19 Ch 7-19

A final look back at my artsy creations and graphic designs from 2022. I updated my ArtMasterlist for 2019 and beyond [DW] with my fandom artposts for the 2022 SPN_J2_BigBang and the 2022 SPN_ReverseBang. I collaborated on two claims for the latter, so in total I made 3 artposts last year, which is the lowest since I started keeping track of my fandomcreations in 2010. I also was quite busy moderating the RB, so I did interact with fellow fans a LOT behind the scenes to keep things going. The main reason for not being as creative as previous years are the over-all slow down of the SPN fandom and my work taking a lot of energy causing me to more lurking and less participating online.

I was active in Land of Art again, which is all about graphic designs. I may have slipped in a bit of fandom here or there, but my favorite thing about Land of Art is that I can be creative without being restricted by fandom. However, one of the pieces I'm most fond of features Jeff/Jensen for Challenge 11, which is why they are not behind a cut;)

Ahw, I was determined to get a 100% participation, but I missed Challenge 8 (Legends Never Die) because I was too preoccupied with work to pay attention to LJ :-( I was still busy when I found out and I used a golden ticket for Challenge 9 (Queen Elizabeth) which counts as participation, so I still got points for the round). In most of the challenges I didn't have time to go for full points, so this phase I often handed in additional golden tickets to at least get my team maximum scores. (And then Team Renaissance obliterated us in Challenge 17, we didn't stand a chance to that! Still: go Team SteamPunk!)

Challenge 19 was a Pot O'Gold challenge, where you got to pick fandoms from a list to get a bunch of surprise points, like a lottery. I won 1x100 and 1x20 points, not too bad.

In the next phase I hope to have more time for playing and to finally get to that 100% participation again. It all depends on work, as I'm still crazy busy there and might do quite a bit of business traveling...

Anyway, this was it for 2022 creativity;)

Artpost SPN_J2_BigBang 2022

When I found out there was going to be another spn_j2_bigbang this year, I signed up right away; how awesome that we still get to play in this fandom! Out of all the offerings I managed to claim a J2 story that was inspired by the TV-show Friends; I in turn let myself be inspired by the original title design and some iconic imagery from that show. I did some papercutting and created effects with my bone folder, which was a challenge to capture with the camera, but I think it worked out pretty okay. May I present:

Graphics for Land of Art Ph18Ch6+7,10-15

Woohoo, I have an extra superlong weekend! In the last week my shoulder mobility has been improving: I went to Aquarobics again for the first time since March. Afterwards I did feel a bit of pain in my shoulders, but it was good pain from exercising, not bad pain for overstretching, if you know what I mean.
Yesterday I had another appointment at the physical therapist, who pinched my left shoulder and made me aware I'm still not a 100% and to take it easy. He did -finally- agree to give me a few exercises to do at home. I got one of those elastic bands to stretch my arms with, but also strict instructions to only do that once every other day and not to do all the exersizes at once, pfff.

Graphics for Land of Art Phase18 Challenge2

Due to giving my shoulders the necessary recovery time, I severely cut down on my computer time. Remember that I told you about how I overextended my right shoulder? Well, while I tried to give my right arm a rest with all household and work (computer) chores, I overcompensated with the left, so then I had two cramped up shoulders to take care of!
Treatments from a physical therapist to loosen up the muscles are mean, but they work and now that the right side is painfree and the left side only had a bit of stiffness left, I figured I can start typing a journal post again;)

I have a lot of graphics to share for Land of Art; I plan to do a combined post of several challenges, but the artwork for the second challenge is rather big, so let's start with that one on its own.

Ch02_PH18 - Timeline
Challenge: make picspams to create a timeline of different roles that a celebrity has been in. One role per picspam with a minimum of 6 images and up to 16 images. (Individual points per picspam, amount depending on the amount of images + Team points per timeline and for participation:)

I find the traditional picspam lay-out with a static collection of square images boring, so I tried to find a way to make this Timeline challenge interesting for me and created more dynamic collages. Click for full size picspams (600x1000pixels)

I really enjoyed playing with these characters and making picspams in this format. I wish I could have created more, but this was all I had time for *shakes feeble fist at shoulders*. Fangirling over fics!

Having been in the SPN/RPF fandom for a long time, I didn't think I would still be discovering new authors 2022, but I did! Even better; it's someone who writes my favorite rare pair OTP, or should I say OT3? Because it's Jensen/Jeff, but Jared gets to play too. (And then it's Jensen/Jared with Jeff watching, woohoo! Plus they are all nice to each other, which I love the best of all:) It gets even betterer than that: there's a whole new series of short fics (~4500 words each), that can be read as stand alone or as a big fic that explores polyamory and Dom/sub relationships, including negotiations and after care. *clutches heart*

If any of this is relevant to your interests, go check out amill22's I'm gonna teach you some french series. So far it's four parts (noir, blanc, bleu and vert) and that's plenty, but there's a promise of even more!

There's excellent new stuff for fans of Dean/John too by amill22, I recommend let me feel you: He’s strong, muscle built from hard work, but right now, the expression on his face makes him seem fragile, the unbridled need for reassurance in his eyes making John almost feel sick to his stomach. It makes Dean look so weak, breakable. Fortunately, this is something John knows how to fix. How to make Dean feel connected and wanted and most importantly, not alone.

Last but not least, a golden oldie rec that I reread recently (and a LOT) Across the Line by ashtraythief: Jensen put himself through college as a phonesex operator. It didn’t really do much for him, except for his Friday night regular JD. When Jensen takes a new, more respectable job after he graduates, he comes face to face with the man whose voice he only ever heard before.

Land of Art 2021 Round Up

Pfff, what a month it has been! Or, months, really. I feel like I've been occupied with moderating the spn_reversebang forEVER. I didn't even have time left to check out the art or fics myself! Now that this event is done and the masterposts are up (SPN art&fic & RPF art&fic), I want to write a 'Day in the Life of a Mod', but first I need to get some other stuff out of the way.

I didn't have time to do a full picspam of our Sinterklaas celebrations, but for those of you who are curious about the creative part, I did share the surprise packages I built in my Instagram.

In between modwork and real life work, I did participate in a couple more challenges for landofart. Due to lack of time, I had to skip a few Hide & Seeks, as well as Challenges 14 (Mirrored) and 18 (My Favorite), which both seemed awesome, so I hope they will return in a future Land of Art Phase. Challenge 16 was a Halloween puzzle challenge and is therefor not included in my graphic designs below (I didn't solve the puzzles very fast, but I did earn 20 points for my efforts, yay).

Well, minus the first, because I already posted that in March;) I pretty much kept voting in the Crime category, mainly because I have a huge CSI archive to play with and I can use the designs in the NicknGreg tumblr:) I did make a couple of graphics for other categories though, like for instance Jensen Ackles as Batman for the superheroes theme! Right away I made Jensen the hairdresser and then I tried to set him up with different people in my head. One of them was always Jeff, and he was a handyman for a while, but I already made him a contracter last time, so this round he got to be the artist:). Danneel was cast by RL Jensen himself, when he was so eager to color her quarantine hair and with him being proud of her DIY skills. How could I ignore that?

Summary/Concept: With his Cut & Curl Salon (for Ladies & Gents) Jensen Ackles has a succesful business – now he´s hoping to finally find love. When two charmers enter his life, he needs to figure out what he really wants – and whether handy-woman Danneel Harris or rebel-artist Jeff Morgan figures into his happily ever after. (Or both...)

My aim was to give it a TV romcom promo feel and I had fun making a logo in Illustrator and then putting them all together in Photoshop. May I present:

For this year's first spn_reversebang I wanted to do less hands-on arts & crafts and I wanted to see if I could create a paperlook digitally. After claiming, my author came up with a wonderful concept for my torn-up Jeff photos and I ended up playing with real paper for the additional art. I still got my dose of digital fiddling though:)

Unfortunately due to RL circumstances, the author wasn't able to finish the fic, so I'm posting art only at this time.

This is the description/prompt I added to the artwork: Jeff's face at different ages, torn apart, but forming a complete portrait. Jensen is looking at him. Is this a vision of the man (men?) of Jensen's dreams? Is this a sweet stalker fic? Or maybe a time travel experience? Go wild, go long or go short, as long as these two get together at least once (to snuggle or for sexy times...) I can live with a sad ending as well as a happily ever after;o)

The artwork I made based on the draft of the story is behind the cut, as well as a full Making Of for both the digital and the additional paper art:)

My second spn_reversebang for 2020 features not 1J, not 2Js but the whole set: I imagined J3 with a candystore (cheekily named after JDM's real life farm:) I was lucky enough to have that promptpiece claimed by one of my favorite authors and she created magic:) This of course in return inspired me to make additional art. I did some papercutting, played in Illustrator, which I hadn't done in a very long time, and I put the whole together in Photoshop (that I also used for some maniping;).

Land of Art Ph15:Challenges 4 + 5

I want to make an effort to post my landofart challenges in order, even though they are not always set up in numerical order in the community. Challenge number 5 was done a while ago and was an individual challenge. For challenge number 4 teams of six people had to work together to create icons for colorbars, which took some time to organize. I joined three other Steampunk teams as a member and put one team together myself.
Now that the team effort for challenge 4 is finally handed in, I'm catching up with posting here again:)

This challenge was about creating billboards, a format I had not used before. Out of the two sizes, I went with the larger 900x400 dimensions. The billboards had to include at least one image, the character name and what show/movie they are from. I decided to go with female characters from The Boys, ( Grace, Annie, Charlotte & Kimiko )

Land of Art Phase 14 Round up! [Graphic designs]

Woohoo, Phase 14 of landofart is finished, points have been awarded and my team PopArt came in third! (Out of three teams, but *blows raspberries*;) There were a few challenges I didn't create art for: one was a nostalgic look back at old designs (Ch20), another was a quick draw doodle thing (Ch19), and I handed in Golden Tickets for two challenges that I didn't have time for (Ch11+17). But there are still plenty of graphic designs to share: I made filmposters and loads of tumblr graphics, icons and wallpapers! (Click for full size images:)

Artwork SPN_J2_BigBang 2020 - the second!

Within five minutes after staking my claim in the spn_j2_bigbang I got a message from the author and I got even more excited about the fic I had been able to grab! I already loved the summary but when I found out who wrote it, I didn't have any doubts that the whole story would be great. She's one of my favorite fanfic authors who always adds extra layers of thinky thoughts to an already exciting plot. I had a blast squeeing behind the scenes and tried to capture some of the awesomeness of this story. I'm all giddy that I can finally share this collab with y'all:) Enjoy!

Land of Art Ph14:Ch3 - Hide & Seek Round 5

As I'm working on finishing my SPN_J2_BigBang artworks, here is a set of graphics I made last week for another round in the landofart challenge Hide & Seek, where you create graphics based on given themes. Each piece you make is a vote for that theme to be included in the next round. I don't really have a prefered winner, so for round 5 I also spread my votes across several themes just so I could make various designs:) Can you guess the themes? I made three Tumblr Graphics and did a colouring page (In black and white, that was harder than I thought!)
