Would you go to bed with me?

When I met [livejournal.com profile] felisblanco in Reykjavik last weekend, we spent a lot of time talking about cult-tv. Even though we live in different parts of the world, as it turned out we did have a whole tv-history in common (from Parker Lewis Can't Loose to Buffy and Torchwood:) However, there was one recent series she never heard of, which is a shame, because it was awesome. By way of introduction I uploaded the first episode for her and your entertainment.

([livejournal.com profile] felisblanco: the actor we discussed doesn't show up until half way season 2, but I think you'll like this even without him;)

In 2001 As If was a ground-breaking British drama on Channel 4, following the lives of six teenagers living in London. It has a very modern style of filming with flashbacks, dodgy camerawork and surreal sequences. Each episode shows the story from a different character's point of view.
The first episode is told by Jamie, whose main thoughts are girls and parties. His current crush is Nicki, who has just split up with her latest boyfriend.
Rob works at a coffee bar and is in a relationship with Sasha, Nicki's best friend.
Sooz is the dark and struggling artist of the group with her many piercings and tattoos and an attitude that scares most guys away.
Alex is best mates with Jaimie and a pal to Sooz. He has a secret. (Oooooh, what could it be...)

Sadly the DVD of the series is not available (I'm not even sure if it ever was released on anything but VHS - if you find it on DVD, let me know!), but a kind soul has supplied small avi and wmv files. You can try just the first episode (avi 50 MB) or if you trust my judgement, sit down for the first five (zip 250 MB avi/wmv).

Let me know what you think!

ETA: as with so many original British shows, this series was also 'translated' to an American version. Probably because the London accents are too difficult to understand? As with other translated shows, I only watched the original.

Oooh! Brilliant!

My internet is being a bitch at the moment, cutting off every five to ten minutes, so I'm gonna download this next time I go writing, sucking on free wi-fi. *g*

Woot!

I watched this a couple of years ago and liked it. I remebered the actress who played Nicki - Jemima Rooper - because later I saw her in 'Lost in Austen,' which I loved.

Sooz was my favorite:) That actress 'retired' from acting and is now in the navy - so weird.

Every now and then one of them pops up in another series. I remember seeing Jamie in Torchwood, of course he was nothing like Jamie;)

Great to know I wasn't the only one who watched. Well, me and brotherdearest:)

I have to thank you. THANK YOU!!! When I watched that Torchwood episode, the guy who played Eugene looked so familiar and I couldn't remember where I had seen him. Now I know. One thing I don't have to think about anymore! :)

You're welcome:) I remember expecting the guy to be all bouncy like Jamie, but he had a very different vibe;)
