Took my time to reply to you, because I had wanted to compare all my train journeys to recommend my absolute favorite. Then I found it was impossible to do that, because they obviously all have their charms - and there are too many to choose from;) One of the first long trainrides I enjoyed was through Switzerland (Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz), not in the least because the train had the best big windows (and also possibly because I had climbed a mountain the day before and really loved being able to sit down for hours;) Another cool viewing experience was from the train in Alaska (Fairbanks-Denali-Anchorage) which has a car with a glass dome on top, where you can sit up high and watch the sky! Oooh, or Ecuador (Riobamba to 'El Nariz del Diablo'), where you sit on the roof of the train, that was an even better view.
