Well, I shared the happy, now here's some grumpy

This morning it was time for Day 2 of the 60 days Work-out Challenge Hero's Journey I chose the path of Knee Raises and Boxing. (5 sets each).
So. Ehm. Not good. Here's what happened: I had taken a break after two sets, had walked around a bit, filled a waterbottle, and then started doing the high knees again, when after the third one I suddenly felt a slap against my right calf. I thought something had fallen off the coffeetable (like that full waterbottle) and hit my leg. But as it turned out my calf muscle had popped all by itself.. I immediately stretched (like you do when you get a cramp/charley horse; you pull your toes towards your knee) then got an coolingpack and elevated my leg. After a while I tried walking which turned out to be very painful and then rather impossible; I could not put pressure on my foot for the pain in my calf.

Called brotherdearest (he does triathlons and 10Ks), described what happened, he immediately said 'zweepslag' (whiplash of the calf). We double checked causes and symptoms and it looks like that's exactly what it is: a torn calf muscle! Here's an English page about it: Gastrocnemius Tear
(Apparenly this mostly happens to "middle-aged athletes" *frowns*. Also note the 'weekend-warriors' line beneath the photo, hrmpf)

Rest is the main treatment, my mom is checking where I can get crutches, so I can hopefully tackle the stairs tomorrow and go to work.

I am so bummed out. Healing is said to last 2-6 weeks :-(((( *pouts* I do want to keep up with exercising, but obviously if I can't move, I can't move. Cycling seems out of the question for at least a couple of days as well.

This sucks. I'm gonna do some watercolours, I can do that rolling around on my office chair.

OH NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

*tries to think of all the arms-only exercises you could do*

Does it hurt still? I hope you find your crutches and are ok to get to work!

Late reply is late, so you're already up to date through other media I think. There has been much improvement in the past two weeks, but sadly I'm still not completely painfree:( I trust that will get better in the next stage of healing.
I'm glad I can still join the Hero's Journey, even if I have to adjust some exercises: I TOTALLY DID DAY 16 AS ORDERED, WOOHOO!
