But Obama's candidacy is also depressing, for it demonstrates that even a person of the greatest candor and eloquence must still claim to believe the unbelievable in order to have a political career in this country. We may be ready for the audacity of hope. Will we ever be ready for the audacity of reason?
Awe. Some. And very true. I mean, the mere fact that such a large part of all political campaigns depends on the church you belong to? It creeps me out. Religion has been the cause of so much misery in the world, and I'm not saying that all religion should be abolished because people have a right to believe what they want, but they shouldn't matter in politics, damn it. It makes me really angry that someone like Obama, who I believe could actually change things for the better, might not win because he wasn't a churchgoing little boy when he was, like, five.
Um, before I start ranting: I love Sam Harris. Maybe not as much as I love Olbermann, but close enough.

I was unpleasantly surprised when people here objected last year after our elections because the appointed minister of education is an atheïst.
