London picspam! [Part 3: a stroll by the river]
Yes, yes, there will be a post of my trip to Amsterdam soon, but after all the artwork, I first have to finish the trilogy of picspams from the weekend in London 7 weeks ago. Because when
tanisafan and I came back from our afternoon in Oxford, we went for a long walk on the banks of the river Thames at sunset. I just couldn't resist making pictures of the sights in this wonderful light. I invite you to walk with us, I'll try not to babble too much;)
Saturday evening, May 11

We start our walk at the Blackfriars Bridge, for literary reasons; it's the scene of a series of books Tan is reading. The red pillars are remains of the original bridge.

The current Blackfriars Bridge is not that spectacular, but it's here to mark the beginning of our stroll towards Embankment.

Look at that gorgeous sky over the city! Do you recognize all the buildings? There are a closer view below;) Also check out that funky lantarn at the Milennium Pier.

These camel benches look out over the river. The whole street here has an Egyptian theme, leading towards a monument further on.

*Chinhands* The London Eye, The tower with Big Ben, the houses of parliament. ALL THE THINGS.

Dragon protecting the entrance to the city, oh yes. (May not be visible to Muggles;)
Note: we originally had planned to do the whole (free!) Harry Potter walking tour from The Magician) but due to losing time with the shoulder-incident, we could only do snippets of that. We still saw plenty of Potter-related sights and I definitely want to do more exploring next time *grins*

Dude, Neptune.

It was difficult to capture the funky sunset light, I experimented with flash (and did a bit of fiddling in Photoshop to show details of the adorable statues;)

You don't want to know how many photos I made of this view. Consider yourself lucky I made a selection :-p It was just so much fun to see the silhouettes of these famous buildings, okay.

Sphinx butt \o/

This may be my favorite photo. *chinhands*

Cleopatra's Needle - brought here in 1878. (Read more about its history through the Wikipedia link; nothing to do with Cleopatra, that's just a catchy name. Also: the sphinxes are not ancient and they face the wrong way. *deep sigh* Still a nice sight;)
After our walk (and lots more photos) we took the Tube back to the hotel. We had dinner at the Poppadom Express.

Never had fried cauliflower before, everything was delicious! (including an all you can eat dessert buffet;)
Back at the hotel, I made some photos of the loot I collected in the past days....

From Thursdaynight: goodies from Neil's Yard and souvenirs from tRHPS musical \o/

From Friday: Harry Potter WB Studio Tour <3 (If I had all the money in the world, I'd bought everything in that store;)

Saturday: Lush, Forbidden Planet, Pret a Manger and Oxford:)
On Sunday (May 12) we left the hotel at check out (11 am) to take our time to get to St. Pancras station. Because before getting on the train in the early afternoon, we wanted to go to the adjacent King's Cross station for a visit to Platform 9 3/4...

Clearly we were not the only ones *grins* Don't worry: taking your picture is free (and well worth the wait) but there is also a professional photographer with props for an action shot...

Saw these guys while waiting in line. Dorks.

Tadaah!

Double tadaah! (with Hufflepuff scarf of course!)

After that perfect conclusion of our Harry Potter themed weekend, we walked to St. Pancras to catch the Eurostar to Brussels.
We had a connecting train to Antwerp, but that was so crazy crowded that Tan decided to wait for the next one. I had a lot of other trains to catch, so I had to take it and we said our goodbyes. Luckily I had a seat and plenty of time to carry my backpack with my left (my right arm was in that sling, remember) and I made all my connections, yay.

This is the final part from Rotterdam; had a fancy food combo. My chocolate frog had a collector's card of Hagrid, yay!
Thanks to the wonder of technology (aka Tan's phone) I had already allerted my mom about my accident and she picked me up from the station by car. As a reward she got to see the hundreds of photos when I got home. I'm sorry I only shared a small selection online :-p
The end. For real.
