I promised pancakes...
Haven't been posting much since I went back to work after summervacation. It's not that I don't have anything to talk about, it's more that my brain is too fried when I get home to actually make sense of my thoughts. Pfff. I still like my job, but having to sort out other people's mistakes and on top of that worry about the future every fucking day is wearing me out. Besides work there are some other issues in the world that make me either angry or sad, yet I prefer to keep quiet instead of making myself upset all over again online. So, ehm, yeah. Let's talk about something fun, mkay?
If you are following me on Twitter already heard about this, but just in case you missed it, let me tell you about the disturbing sounds I heard the last couple of nights...
I'd be sitting behind my desk, surfing the net and then I'd hear scratching noises. First they came from the frontroom and the next evening they were closer; seemingly from under the small desk behind me. They would stop if I turned around and I didn't really want to get away from my computer, so I waited until Saturday morning to investigate.
Behind the couch and behind the papercabinet I found loads of mouse droppings! I moved away furniture and checked hidden places, but didn't find a mouse. I did some thourough vacuuming while airing out my house. Haven't heard the mouse yesterday evening, we'll see if it shows up again tonight...
Now, who's ready for Dutch pancakes? I baked some last weekend! Over here they are mainly considered (festive) dinner food (or lunch;) but you can eat them cold for breakfast the next day as well, so it's really multipurpose food, ha! Both in thickness and size they come in between the American small thick pancakes and the large thin French crêpes. Here are some photos of my baking efforts. (Made with my new Ixus140 camera!)

Ingredients: 500 gram pancake-flour, 900 ml milk, 4 eggs, baking margarine; all biologically produced;)
Dutch pancake mix for expats

First pancake; I have skills!

To show you that was no fluke; here's another one;)

I also made a couple with raisins. Ta-daah.

I had a variety of condiments: plain sugar, cinnamon sugar, lots of jams and the classic sugar-sirop. You can eat them flat or roll them up before cutting in, mmmm.
I ate about a third of them and saved two stacks of four each in the freezer (three regular, one with raisins). In fact, I'm gonna unwrap one of those packages and heat them up for dinner right now! \o/
A question before I go offline to eat: does anyone know if there is going to be a
spn_reversebang this year?

I hope the mouse is gone. Eeep!
*hugs* about work.
And gosh, I hope there's going to be a reversebang this year! One of my favorite challenges. :D

No sign of the mouse so far, not a peep!
Still quiet in the RB community too. I fear the mods forgot... I already got all my materials ready and had planned to fiddle with my
guyidea this weekend. I really need a challenge to get me going, or I'll be too lazy to be creative;)(Hey, see that Bert & Ernie hug? Times ten for you, lady. *hugs tight*)

Yikes, I sure hope so -- especially since I've already begun working on art! /o\

If there are still no signs of live in the RB community next weekend, I'm going to contact one of the mods and ask. Last year they started sign ups halfway in August! I have all my arts & crafts stuff ready and am nearly done with my mental sketches. I was going to get started this weekend, but I really need the challenge to get things done.

Yours, looked PERFECT!

Thank you. Did you know we also have a smaller variety, even smaller than US pancakes? They are called 'poffertjes' or puffed pancakes and have a diameter of about 2 inches. Professionaly they are baked in big batches; you can make them at home in a special pan with 19 circular indentations. (Here's one of my old baking efforts;) They are served hot with melting butter and powdered sugar. Maybe even more delicious than regular pancakes!

Hope the mouse has departed, never to be seen again :/. If you want, I can lend you a cat :p?

Haven't heard the mouse after the clean up, no need for a cat, but thanks :-p
