Making of that NC17 paperperversion (also: Xmas cards!)

Alright, I'm getting things done today; I'm up to date with responding to comments and here's the behind the scenes post I promised for that nsfw paper design I shared last week. Remind me to make the source post for that and my previous artwork as well?
Can't add that tonight, because I want to get all my international Xmas/Newyear's cards ready to go and that's gonna take some good old fashioned writing by hand. Here, have two teaser-pics of the mess I made (and the special stamps I got!)

They will be handed in at the post office tomorrow. I doubt they will all make it before the holidays, but it's the spirit that counts most, right? I already received two cards; all the way from Oz from [livejournal.com profile] kennsea and an amazing musical ecard from [livejournal.com profile] tmn1966 - thank you!

Now, without further ado, more about that naughty paperporn.
Summary: All day long Jensen is in charge. At home he likes to unwind: he puts on his collar*, kneels by the door and waits for Jared to come home. He never has to explain himself, he just silently hands over his leash. When he feels Jared's hand on his neck, he can finally let go.
A/N: Made for [livejournal.com profile] smpc

*Originally I also wanted to mention his "slutty" shirt, but figured that was labeling the scene with my interpretation. (Slut is a good thing in this context in my opinion, but your mileage may vary as they say;) Likewise I'm keeping the text with this making of as short and neutral as possible. Don't hesitate to ask for explanations, either about the art or my thought process!

Set up sketch (pink) and cutting sketch (yellow) - Connecting four paper layers for cutting

Cutting all the layers at once to create puzzle pieces in four colours;

Only need a small piece for the black details. In between cutting I'm playing with shadows;)

Creating the scene in different colours. (and more shadow play)

The light table reveals the outlines in the black paper. Okay, this is the last shadow scene, promise. *g*

All the puzzle pieces separated by color - the blue layer needs more cutting.

No special effects; just the glare of the light table creating a mysterious cloud. \o/

Starting from the bottom up to create the scene in different colours. I'm using rubber cement, so I can keep changing pieces until I'm happy about the colourcombination.

Left overs on the left; final version on the right photo (the brown background).

I digitally adjusted creases in the background and cut off the edges for the presentation. You can check out the edited big version here

Next challenge will be a design for [livejournal.com profile] super_disney; sketches have to be in before January 10, posting will start in February. In between fiddling for that I'll continue working on my JDM-wings. I hope to finish that project before the end of the year...

J.

This is so damned cool. And it really illustrates how much work goes into something that seems so clean and effortless. Thanks bunches for showing us your MO!

Thank you:) I keep a record of the work in progress because I tend to forget how much time I need to plan for these creations *grins*

Wowzers! Even though I know how much can go into one of your paper projects, I'm still amazed at alllllllll the steps you go through.

And as an aside, I thought of Jensen's shirt in terms of something like slutty shirt, so I was totally nodding in agreement when I read that you were going to call it that. ;)

ETA: Whoops, forgot to add: Yay! So glad you liked the card. :)

Yay for the slutty shirt:)

These wip-posts are a good reminder for myself too; I often forget that my silly ideas take more time than I think they do. (I so hope to be able to finish the JDM-wing project this year *bites lip*)
