Amsterdam ArtZuid 2021 [SEPT]

Right after I got back home from visiting ArtZuid in Amsterdam back in September, I did a quick Instragram post with ten pics, meant to be an appetizer for a long picspam follow up on LiveJournal & DreamWidth a couple days later. But then work took over my life for a bit and the final preparations for the SPN_ReverseBang ate up a lot of time too and then I went to London and then I went to Amsterdam for another exhibition and this is the first weekend in a long time where I had nothing planned, so I'm finally getting around to a sorting out my photos!

ArtZuid is an outdoor art exhibition in the South of Amsterdam that's organized every two years, with pieces from sculptors all around the world. For this year's edition I got on a train with my mom and we hired public transport bicycles at the Amsterdam South station from where brotherdearest H. guided us around. I think we only missed 4 or 5 sculptures from the total of about 90! I didn't get good photos of all of them, and some of them had to be captured from more angles; this picspam contains 87 photos in total;) Enjoy!

I found the spiderweb more fascinating than this sculpture; the ugliest and most pretentious artpiece of the day for me, which had the full title carved on the back:

A more abstract Thinker is De Denker by Lotti van der Gaag (NLD) which was strategically placed across from the real deal, Le Penseur (1881) by Rodin that sits in front of the Hilton Hotel; you can see it through the sculpture across the road! (Here's my mom trying to capture them both perfectly;)

From the permanent collection in the tiny Emmaplein park; I thinks it looks like pig, what do you see in Verschijning (Image) by Pearl Perlmuter?
I was in awe of the masonry in this house next to the park.

We did a bit of a detour to look at the architecture of The Amsterdam Lyceum and cycle through the gates:) Then we cycled to the final part of the exhibition around the Stadionplein and park in front of the Olympic Stadium (1928).

A permanent artpiece from 2017: 11 Rue Simon Crubellier by Matthew Darbyshire (GBR) is a complete apartment in the open air made from concrete and bronze. Its toilet, radiator and sink are broken and squirt water at random intervals which makes is very exciting to walk through;)

We were very hungry after all the cycling and art appreciation, and found comfy seats at Sloppy Joe where my brother's girlfriend M. joined us for dinner. I had a scrumptious Fat Bastard burger and the waitress combined two deserts because we couldn't choose, so we got lava cake AND icecream!

A great end to a great day:) After dinner we all cycled back to the station where mom and I handed in our bicycles and we said goodbye to H. and M.

I thought for sure I had shared photos of previous years ArtZuid, but the only one I could find was from 2013!

I'll bet! Some of those pieces were... uhm... an acquired taste?
