Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow

The busdrivers are still on strike. Tomorrow will be day 8 of them doing fuck all. There have already been two of those days in May plus a week when they only worked a couple of hours on a 'ride for free'-protest. 'Free' as in 'you don't have to buy a ticket or get a stamp', not as in 'for people who have paid for a whole year-pass will get their money back'. It's good that employees have the right to protest, but this strike is really out of proportion. It's not about people losing their job, it's not about getting a pay-cut, it's about how much higher their salary will be. To put down work for that and make so many people who depend on public transport suffer for what is really a luxury issue? Not on. Especially since not working takes no effort at all. Signs, funny hats and shirts, buttons are already made by the union, standard salary is provided for by the union and when the busdrivers will finally return to work, there will be no pile up of stuff they have to handle.
Also: not driving the bus to get the buscompany's attention? Not the way to make the ones responsible shiver with fear: no busses means no fuel-costs, the companies still get subsidised and don't have to pay salaries. At least when you're driving the public for 'free', it will hurt the ones you want to convince. Idiots.
I'm lucky enough to have a boss who can't do without me and is willing to pick me up by car. I've been focusing on the good side of that: less traveltime, airconditioning, no other passengers. But my body and brain are suffering:No bus means no cycling to and from the busstop and home. That's about 30 minutes of moving I really like and need I miss reading a lot: about an hour and a half every day :( I really miss my independence, even though I'm not driving the car nor the bus myself, at least the last one makes me feel like I'm in control as to when to leave work More complimentary exercise I'm doing without: walking to and from the busstop to work is a great way to get ready for a day of work and get rid of baggage before going home
I don't want to have to start exercising to get the necessary muscle-movement. I want my bus back, dammit.
On a happier note: when I'm not moving around enough during the days, I have to find other ways to get rid of excess energy. So at night I put on music and dance around my livingroom. I also sing along. Since I do this with (cordless;) headphones on, I'm unable to hear the praise from my neighbours, but I'm sure they are impressed. These are the best sing- and swing-along songs of this week:
Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians - What I Am
Philosophy, is the talk on a cereal box/Religion, is a smile on a dog
I'm not aware of too many things/I know what I know if you know what I mean
Chuck me in the shallow water/Before I get too deep
Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians - Circle
And being alone is the best way to be.
When I'm by myself it's the best way to be.
When I'm all alone it's the best way to be.
When I'm by myself nobody else can say goodbye.
Michelle Shocked - On The Greener Side
It may sound funny, but Romeo, honey
I don't want none of your love, love, love,
It don't keep me satisfied
And though I've never been there
I know it's always greener on the greener side
Michelle Shocked - Silent Ways
Silence is golden/Words are made of lead
And in the alchemy of love
Some things are better left unsaid
Michelle Shocked - Looks Like Mona Lisa
She's ripe with broken dreams, her lovers never stay
It looks like Mona Lisa is having a bad day
Michelle Shocked - Too Little Too Late
Don't you talk about the way things was
Bringing roses and turtledoves don't rate
Too little too late
Sing and Swing!
