beelikej: (Amy's Heart)
I was going through my blog and journals (as you do this time of year;-), and I noticed I completely forgot to share the stuff I made for Land of Art in 2024. My year was mostly filled with work and travel (which was also mostly for work) but I did manage to squeeze in some creative times. So I figured for my end of year post, I'll just picspam y'all with my graphic designs.

But first, to round up this year properly, here's what I did since the previous journal post in October, with links to my photos on Instagram:
  • I had a quick weekend in London for a play that was cancelled last minute (but I found another one to at least make the most of my weekend in November)
  • I built a cabinet for my renovated shower
  • I went on another businesstrip to England as well, where I didn't really go sightseeing, but did discover a lovely outdoors pool that was decorated for Christmas in December
  • I celebrated Sinterklaas with my family

Now, without further ado: all the fanart graphics I made this year!

Land of Art Phase 22 - Summer 2024
I handed in Golden Tickets for Challenge 1, 9 and 11. I missed Challenge 3 and Challenge 14 was a puzzle challenge, so no artwork for all of these.

This phase was supposed to last through December and into 2025, but was cut short because everyone is too busy with work. Team challenge 3 is moved to the next phase, challenge 7&8 were not posted.

Yay, lots of improvements on my shoulder mobility since my last update. I was able to get on my bicycle again and after trying it carefully in the weekend to do groceries, I also cycled to the office again every weekday.
I started on my 'senior citizen' bike, which has a low step and saddle, so I didn't need to put my full weight on my arms when getting on and off. On Wednesday evening I decided to try my regular (high) bike to cycle to my mom; this route includes a steep bridge, so it's good exercise;) It feels very good to have my independence back and to no longer need public transport or a ride from my mom to move around.
I'm still going to physical therapy; my left shoulder still needs kneeding and I've been getting new exercises to further improve mobility and strength in my arms. We'll see how much time I need to full recovery, but I'm already feeling like myself again. (Now not to have this happen again and learn to take regular breaks in between fiddling on the computer, both professionally and privately;)

Speaking of fiddling on a computer: here are the final graphics I made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart.

Woohoo, Phase 14 of [livejournal.com profile] landofart is finished, points have been awarded and my team PopArt came in third! (Out of three teams, but *blows raspberries*;) There were a few challenges I didn't create art for: one was a nostalgic look back at old designs (Ch20), another was a quick draw doodle thing (Ch19), and I handed in Golden Tickets for two challenges that I didn't have time for (Ch11+17). But there are still plenty of graphic designs to share: I made filmposters and loads of tumblr graphics, icons and wallpapers! (Click for full size images:)

I've been playing in [livejournal.com profile] landofart for the past few weeks again and am finally making time to post all the graphic designs I created so far. I'm planning to post everything up to challenge 10 this weekend.

Challenge 1 was to promote Land of Art, I didn't make any new banners for this, but I did do shout outs all over my social media:) [On LJ & DW amongst others.]

Challenge 2 was the traditional making of personal icons & so called sigtags that you use to sign your submissions with your teamname. I'm on team SteamPunk:) I created 3 sigtags & 3 icons:

While I'm in the last stages of my second BigBang artwork, I'm trying to get a little better organized in my arts & crafts space and this also includes my digital archive. I noticed I hadn't shared some of my [livejournal.com profile] landofart creations before, so this is a catch up post! It's quite a random selection of banners, icons and covers. At the end I'm adding a Tutorial that's illustrative of my usual way of brightening colours to improve images:)

Keeping up with LJ is a bit tough at the moment, but y'all rock for posting! *rolls around in flist* I'm still juggling too many things this week, so I expect I won't be able to catch up properly until the weekend, but I didn't want to postpone this meme that long, so here's quick post:)

Reply to this post with "memesheep!" (why not?), and I will pick three of your icons for you to talk about in your own journal; please then keep the meme going by making this offer on your post.

Here are the userpics [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams wanted to know more about:

Famous J - fucked and killed to save her people
This was my default icon for a long time. The image is from a card my mom sent me in 2002. I know this because the card has a special place on my wall, so I see it every day! It depicts biblical Judith* decapitating enemy general Holophernes (*an apocryphal book, so it may not be in your bible:) I just really love that story, okay. I'm pretty sure I was not named after her though. I added a little blood to the drawing before turning it into one of my first LJ userpics \o/

NeverMindTheBuzzcocks... - I have the ears of DEATH! Boohahaha.
This is Bill Bailey, an English musician and comedian, who was one of the teamcaptains in Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a BBC music quiz I watched religiously back in the day. This is a scene and quote from a 2006 episode when Simon Amstell was team captain (Oh, Simon, BLESS) and he and Bill are trying to talk tough when Bill notices his own intimidating T-shirt *grins* I love to say this in a bombastic way: I HAVE THE EARS OF DEATH:)

I failed to find a clip of that scene, but while searching I came across one of my favorite Buzzcock moments between Bill, Simon and John Barrowman: The Gay Off :-D

    SuperTwink J1 - Fiddle fiddle
Ahw, an adorable photo from the twink days of Jensen Ackles, such a precious pouty boy. The fiddle-comment refers to a song from rockopera Tommy by The Who; it's a quote from wicked Uncle Ernie, who loves to touch young boys. Sorry. It's just because this image always makes me feel a little pervy.

Oooh, talking about SPN fandom (yes, we were) - there are loads of awesome short fics already submitted to the [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang! So if you're an artist looking for a fun project, go claim a story and get creative!

Neighbour brought shoarma-dinner and after a delicious dessert (cookie custard) we had a Torchwood marathon on my big screen up in the attic. Couple of mopey episodes (oh, Owen), but we ended with Weevils, woohoo. It was a great evening (especially after a horridly busy day at work:).
    beelikej: (Torchwood)
From my previous post you already know I did a lot of reading during my time in London. I had about 15 hours of traveltime and spent all my evenings in a bubblebath. In between reading I did manage to go into town and do some shopping and sightseeing. I also visited the theatre for a musical, a comedy show and a play.
Here's a picspam of the first two days: Tuesday August 14 + Wednesday August 15.

    London, Day 1: Trains & Theatre )

London, Day 2: Camden & Captain Jack )

Then I went to the ARTS theatre for The Complete World Of Sports (abridged) by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Years ago I had seen The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged) which was fun and I figured this new show would be fitting to make up for me completely missing the Olympics. Basically it's three guys on stage (the funny bald one + the smart sophisticated one + the dumb pretty one) doing all sorts of sketches about the history of sport.

The girl who sold me the program said I could have it signed after the show, which I thought was nice. But when I discovered who was part of the group this time, I went into fangirl mode and worried about it for the rest of the performance.... because the role of the pretty one was played by Matt Rippy.
I admit that name didn't ring a bell with me right away, but his face looked familiar and from the program I learned why: Matt Rippy also acted on TV as a sexually confused WW2 pilot, the REAL Captain Jack Harkness, in Torchwood.

Obviously I had to get HIS autograph )

To be continued! (I have almost 100 photos of Stonehenge to go through)
    beelikej: (David Tennant)
Originally Tan and I had wanted to travel to the UK as usual: by Eurostar train to London. Due to a national strike in Belgium, we had to find another way to cross the channel. Luckily we managed to buy cheap plane tickets from Amsterdam straight to our destination Bristol, where Panic! at the Disco would perform on Tuesday, January 31.
But I'll start my travel story on Monday, when I caught the bus from my house to the station for the 7.16 a.m. train to Schiphol airport. Despite the snow (!) my journey went according to schedule and I met Tan as planned around 8.45.
Here's what we did on the first day of our five day trip to the UK...
beelikej: (Well if kids are out at midnight)
"I don't do any nude scenes in series one; they're saving that for the next series! I don't have a problem with getting my kit off. As long as they pay me the right money, I'm ready to get out my cock and balls." - John Barrowman.

(This is supposedly commentary on the Boxset of Season 1, that I'm so gonna order this weekend;)

Heh: Episode 2 of the new season (Sleeper) was apparently impossible to edit for the kids, the pre-watershed schedule continued with episode 3 yesterday. Yay, for being an adult :-)
    beelikej: (Default)
For the sake of research I spent Saturdaynight rewatching Torchwood. I simultaneously played the original first episode of Season 2 and the censored kiddie-edition to find out which bits had been cut. It was thoroughly amusing confusing. I had to stop and rewind or fast forward to catch up. But I think I managed to find all the stuff that was cut to protect the Chyldren. You'll be happy to know all of the snogging was shown and nearly every innuendo was allowed. It was mostly violence, drugrelated dialogue and bloody scenes that were apparently considered a bad influence. But there were a lot of those. Colour me shocked. Here is the complete list. It contains spoilers for S2Ep1 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Plus: the content that you are about to view could contain adult concepts which may not be suitable for minors. (Heh. I've always wanted to use that line;) )

In conclusion: for the kiddies there is only one god, they have to figure out for themselves what happens when you drop or push someone off a roof and they have to be kept away from drugs and orgies.
    Wow. I'm so glad I'm a grown up *g*

I understand BBC America will also make cuts: to fit the episode in between commercials and to abide by the FCC rules. I'm very curious to find out what is left out. I don't mind watching this episode again. The adult uncut version that is *g*
    beelikej: (Kiss)
This morning started with a hormonal hotflash, I had an attack of nausea on the bus and arrived at work with another hotflash, while some fucker had turned on the heater in my office. I expect there is a lot more fun on its way. (Hey, hello headache and cramps!)
But all that doesn't matter, for tonight will be awesome no matter what: new Torchwood! To get in the mood - or in case you missed the first episode last week, here's a musicvid to summarize: I'm a sexmachine ready to reload... )

For some inane reason the BBC will show a pre-watershed edition of the first episode at 7 UKtime (=cut as to not upset the Chyldren). I do not approve of censorship of any kind, and remember Buffy and Sliders being butchered to appease parents who are incapable of guiding their kids. I trust the BBC will keep the groping and only remove the most violent (bloody) bits and bad language, but why water it down? I thought Torchwood was supposed to be the ADULT spin-off of Doctor Who? Grumble-grumble.

I myself will be rewatching the uncut version of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang before the new episode (22.00 my time) and will be available for fangirling afterwards. See you around eleven? (Central European Time;)
