Dare to be different and learn to be lonely

Most of my furniture is still stacked in big piles in my living room, but the first thing I did when the builders were done with the interior work, was to set up my computer and arts & crafts corners:) While the renovation to the outside of my apartmentbuilding continued, I worked on my second claim in the SPN_J2_BigBang. I chose to play with watercolours to illustrate this fic. Of course I also had to do a little papercutting and I made an animation! Here's the result of my fiddling:

Within five minutes after staking my claim in the spn_j2_bigbang I got a message from the author and I got even more excited about the fic I had been able to grab! I already loved the summary but when I found out who wrote it, I didn't have any doubts that the whole story would be great. She's one of my favorite fanfic authors who always adds extra layers of thinky thoughts to an already exciting plot. I had a blast squeeing behind the scenes and tried to capture some of the awesomeness of this story. I'm all giddy that I can finally share this collab with y'all:) Enjoy!

Doing so might involve sacrifices and changes neither of them ever imagined.

SPN_J2_BigBang 2020 - Artwork the first

Wahey, I managed to claim two awesome fics in the spn_j2_bigbang! (Can you believe I've been doing art for that since 2010?!) Both my darling authors already sent me their drafts and my mind is buzzing with ideas:) I'm looking forward to my collabs with blackrabbit42 and tsuki_no_bara.

Earlier this week, I handed in my digital artworks for another landofart challenge; this one was called Green Day, but had nothing to do with the band, but everything with the colour green that had to feature in the graphic design. I made one Panorama (a long 500x100 pixel banner that can be split into individual icons) and four (4!) Colourbars (a banner in variable size featuring 4-5 icons plus text (a slogan, quote or lyric) pulling them all together).

Don't hesitate to ask if you want to know more about the fonts or filters I used or if you are interested in participating in Land of Art yourself. The current Phase 14 runs until July! It's not affiliated to any fandom, but you can absolutely play with your favourites if you wish;) *points at first colourbar*

There were once again many great fics on offer in this year's spn_j2_bigbang; this was the first one I managed to claim. I was inspired to try some magical animation. I was happy to learn the author didn't mind not having J2's faces in the storybanner, so I could experiment with the image of the tree I had in my head. This is what happened...

Oh yes, there was lots of squeeing when I saw my favorite pairing in the whole of fandom on offer in this year's spn_j2_bigbang. I love playing with these two and the summary was right up my alley too, so of course I put that fic on top of my claimlist and then I managed to grab it, woohoo! When the superstore announces their intention to locally expand by buying out and demolishing a few cherished shops on a quaint Seattle block, independent bookshop owner Jensen Ackles is having nothing of it or the company’s obnoxious CEO, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In the midst of this, Jensen has found himself interested in dating someone, for the first time in a long time. Of course, he hasn’t exactly met Bookman66 yet, but Jensen’s pretty sure the guy he’s been talking to online recently is just about as perfect as they come.

Jeffrey, meanwhile, has developed feelings for Shopguy78 -- a member of the online book club he joined on a whim -- despite his own cutthroat exterior and less-than-stellar relationship track record. Now, if only he can stop thinking about the fiery shop owner he's attempting to put out of business...

On spn_j2_bigbang claimday, back in May, I was all jetlaggy after a trip on the nightbus from London and I messed up the time, so I figured I missed out this year:( I'm so glad I signed up as a pinchhitter because I got lucky after all! It was a match made in heaven even, with a story about the guys going on a roadtrip along Route 66, JUST LIKE I DID LAST SUMMER:) And the author is one of the fangirls I met up with in the USA back then; how cool is that for a fandom collaboration?

This year's spn_j2_bigbang was right in the middle of one of the most intense times in my life. As some of you know, I lost my job of 19 years and I will officially be unemployed on September 1st. Doing arts & crafts in my rare spare time provided a wonderful distraction, but it was rather difficult to focus in between looking for jobs, applying for jobs and my current job getting increasingly awkward. Fortunately I claimed an inspirational story and got to collaborate with a great author, which turned this into one of my most creative paperprojects:)

Not going to lie: I picked this story not only for the enticing Cop!Jensen/Bartender!Jared combination, but very much also for the inclusion of Jason Momoa *grins* Besides my superficial reasons I truely love how serious this story is and how these guys are definitely real men and not simply boys in love. These are complicated relationships! I tried to show that specifically in the endbanner with all the main players connected and the spiral behind them symbolizing life's ability to spin out of control.

My masterpost of artsy fiddling from 2010 an onwards

What a weekend! On top of keeping an eye on all the J3-goodness coming in from the Asylum convention in Birmingham, there was behind the scenes squeeing with fellow artists about BigBang summaries and also massive excitement about expanding my USA roadtrip with tmn1966 to Meet & Greets with fangirls all along route 66 \o/

BB-Claiming was as crazy as ever yet I managed to grab an awesome story on the first page of comments. My author contacted me within 15 minutes of wendy's confirmation, which made me like them right away;) Then I almost immediately received a draft and ohboyohboyohboy, I'm in love. I will reveal our collaboration as soon as it's allowed;)

Cycled to mom for Mother's Day and was treated to cake and chocolate. Well worth the flowers, gifts and foodiebasket I brought her *grins*

When it was time to claim a summary from this year's spn_j2_bigbang offerings, I looked for a fantasy AU. I wanted to go wild with magical creatures and I sure found an inspirational story! My wonderful author gave me plenty of ideas to work with. Then my muse took me in a more graphic direction and I ended up with mostly text designs. *pouts* But! I did manage to visualize some fantasy figures too (there's a dragon!) and I explored another side of papercutting: I made a 3D design for the header. Tadaah:

Quite the exciting day; claimed a story in the spn_j2_bigbang (and have already received a draft from my author, woohoo), fun with Eurovision on Twitter (so cool to have friends all over Europe sharing in the squee plus a great winner plus -countrypride- the Netherlands in second place, haha), and last but not least a phone call with the news that the three Dutch hostages in Nigeria are released and safe. And thus ends an overwhelming week, pfff.
