ARTpost: SPN_J2_BigBang 2018, the second!

When I was already lucky in the first claimround of this year's spn_j2_bigbang I figured I shouldn't be greedy for more. Yet this summary kept calling out to me, so when it was still available in round two, I grabbed it so I could get kinky with papercutting. *grins* I love that even though the story begins at an BDSM party, it's grounded in day-to-day life and yes, it even comes with a 'kid fic' warning/enticement;) My artwork focuses on the J2 relationship though, from PG-13 to R-rated goodness. The NSFW content is hidden behind spoiler-cuts in the LiveJournalpost.

Summary: Perpetually-single pediatric dentist Jared lets his best friend Misha talk him into going to an anonymous BDSM party. A year later, Jared is stunned to recognize Jensen Ackles as the father of one of his new patients and the guy from the best one-night stand of Jared’s life. With some encouragement from Jensen’s co-parent Danneel and Jared’s plucky office manager Genevieve, Jared realizes that he and Jensen might be perfect for each other after all.

From sketch to papermask
1. Shadow experiment

A really rough sketch for the SPN_J2_BB mod, I knew I wanted to do something with the domino mask and that clubscene. I also had already decided I was going to do a bit of papercutting.


When I finished my photoversions of J2 I experimented with shadow masks; it was hard to figure out how to photograph that:)


It was fun to play with the tiny masks, but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work the way I imagined.


So I returned to the original big mask concept; slowly the idea came about to do the whole banner by hand, including the text.
I wanted to use real rope, not just as a means to fasten the mask, but also to symbolize being bound. I found the perfect size on these giftbags!


I cut Jared so I could put the two of them closer together to fit underneath the mask.


Originally I wasn't planning on using the black paper for the mask... I had a little more elaborate set up in mind.


Again it turned out difficult to capture my idea in photos. So I discarded this concept as well.


Black mask it is! I wrote the title with pink pencil.
For the names, I've tested a white marker on the photoprints. I figure out the right size and prepare to write...


This was rather nervewracking, the letters were tiny and the markertip was rather fat, I was so relieved when I was done!


I made the lettering on the mask a bit swirlier. While taking photos I finally noticed I had cut the shading around Jared's head. Fortunately I can do a touch up with coloured pencils, pfew.

First sketch of the whole scene (trying to figure out how Jensen can pull Jared's hair;) and a second one where Jensen is a tiny bit larger.


Papercutting and debating colour choices.


Their silhouettes make me giggle; it looks like Jensen is sneaking up on Jared to pinch his butt:) I'm still trying to figure out Jensen's position.


Yes, I had to let Jensen slap Jared's butt to get a good handprint :-p


New Jensen cut to fix his shoulders and fingers.


New Jared cut with bigger hands;) While I'm colouring his hair, I keep a knife nearby to fix funky bits.


Finally figured out their position \o/ For the background I try to create the same purple as the banner, but my paper does not cooperate with the watercolours, hrmpf.


Then I remember I used the perfect purple paper behind my JDM portrait, so I take him off the wall and use the back to take photographs!
