No far away trip for me this summervacation, but I got a new toothbrush, a fresh bar of soap and I'm going to put clean sheets and a summer duvet on my bed tonight, so it will feel like I'm in a fancy hotel;)

I want to try and update my journal every day for the next two weeks, not because I'll have a lot to tell (or maybe I do, who knows what will happen) but mainly because I am going to need some sort of daily schedule to keep track of time. *grins*

I already did most of my grocery shopping yesterday after work (made all my deadlines, yay, it makes this vacation so much more relaxing;) - this afternoon I mainly went out to
1. get out of the house
2. buy some stuff I forgot (margarine!) and
3. to treat myself to some new NSFW toys... )

Other chores I did today: laundry and garbage. I also sat down on the couch to read, which is probably my biggest achievement for today, considering all the available distractions on the internet, ha! My last assignment for today is to catch up on my flist.

Other vacation plans for the next two weeks:
  • Tomorrow I'm going to the Arthouse with my mom for an early morning showing of The Company You Keep;
  • At 2pm SanDiego time, which will be 23:00 on my side of the world, I'm hoping to watch the NerdHQ talk with Jared and Jensen (should be streaming live on the Nerdmachine YT);
  • Very early on Mondaymorning I will try to call the railservice in Australia to order my train pass for December and book a ticket for the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney;
  • Monday afternoon [livejournal.com profile] sillie82 is coming over for three days of fangirling over CSI (S13), SPN (S8) and Being Human (original UK series obv;);
  • I have massages scheduled for Monday July 29 and Friday August 2. \o/

  • On the days in between I hope to buy a new camera (Canon Ixus, probably a 140HS), shop for swimwear (ahahahahaha), unfuck my kitchen, get one of my bicycles fixed, decorate my back balcony (with that darling purple bench I got from brotherdearest) and work on that never ending jigsaw puzzle (2000 pieces).

    Right now I'm gonna get the laundry in from the balcony and do some folding before I'm gonna test my new toys.

    Do you have vacation plans or are you working this summer?
    beelikej: (BangBlowBrilliance)
    Okay self, here's the plan: first you finish that design for mom's birthday, then you may read another BigBang story. After that you'll hang the laundry out to dry, while you either start working on those bookreports or continue fiddling for Big Bang. Mkay? Okay.

    Let me get this out here first. A scene I want to share from 'Inherit The Wind', a play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee (1955). (saw the play -with Kevin Spacey- in 2009, finally finished reading the transcript last week;). It's an interpretation of the (in)famous Monkey Trial from 1925, when a schoolteacher was standing trial for teaching his class about The Origin Of Species by Charles Darwin.

    Teachers Bert Cates and Rachel Brown (daughter of the town's vicar) are discussing Bert's options with lawyer Henry Drummond. (M.H. Brady is his opponent)

    Drummond: You murder a wife, it isn't nearly as bad as murdering an old wives' tale. Kill one of their fairy-tale notions, and they call down the wrath of God, Brady, and the state legislature.

    Rachel: You make a joke out of everything.You seem to think it's all so funny!

    Drummond: Lady, when you lose your power to laugh, you lose your power to think straight.

    Cates: Mr. Drummond, I can't laugh, I'm scared.

    Drummond: Good. You'd be a damned fool if you weren't.

    Rachel: You're supposed to be helping Bert, and every time you swear you make it worse for him.

    Drummond: I'm sorry if I offend you. but I don't swear just for the hell of it. You see, I figure that language is a poor enough means of communication as it is. So we ought to use all the words we've got. Besides, there are damned few words that everybody understands.

    [Another point worthy of discussion; why are the men addressed with their last name, while Rachel has to do with her first name? Significant, I think, but let's not get into that right now and blame it on the era the play was written in. Grumble.]

    To remind me of my good intentions after yesterday's confession, I'm posting my to-do lists for the rest of my vacation. Feel free to poke me for any of the chores mentioned. (The fun ones, please;)

    In addition I ask you to help me compile an essential 80sfilm list to educate my dearestbrother's girlfriend, who missed most of the eighties due to not being born yet. (OMG)
