(No I didn't skip a number; Challenge 5 is a BigBang Team Challenge, due in December:)
The Hide & Seek Challenge has several rounds; I submitted three fandoms for this in (pre-)Challenge 3 and so did other participants, so we start with a whole bunch of fandoms to choose from. After each round, random fandoms are eliminated to eventually end up with a winning fandom. If you chose to make something for one of the fandoms that are taken out, you lose a life. Every participant starts with three lives.
For the first round of Challenge 6 I chose to only make a banner for BladeRunner. Good thing I did, because all my submitted fandoms were eliminated, and now I only lost one life, pfew. Fortunately I can play on in the next rounds of Hide & Seek with any of the other fandoms my fellow Land of Arters submitted.

I'll add any additional designs I make for the next rounds to this post.

Finally folded my laundry today (I left it on the couch for -ehm- a week?) and also cleared away the dishes. Nothing like company coming over to take a critical look at your home and get things done;) So I also cleaned up my arts & crafts corner. The frames I painted yesterday eventually got the same colour blue as the rest of the frames on my fanart-wall. All the marvelous creations made for me by [livejournal.com profile] dephigravity, [livejournal.com profile] badbastion, [livejournal.com profile] daggomus_prime and [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 now have a permanent place of honour in my guestroom.

Spent the afternoon with book- and film buddy Jelle, talking about life, the world, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and of course books and films. *grins* I made him watch the first two episodes of Orphan Black (he's definitely going to find himself the rest of the series \o/) In return he offered arthouse film Under The Skin in which Scarlett Johansson plays "The Female"; a mysterious woman who seduces lonely men in the evening hours in Scotland. Events lead her to begin a process of self-discovery.
There was hardly any dialogue and no music whatsoever, so you were forced to realy focus on the (lack of) action on screen. Pfff. A tough one and well worth discussing afterwards, which we did over dinner. I understand the film was based on a book by Michel Faber and I definitely want to read it to find out more about Scarlett's character.

Jelle also brought me my birthday present, so I updated my booklist \o/

I may or may not have just sent in a third submission for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. I may lack time, but I like as many authors as possible to have a chance to participate;) I only hope the current mods don't change more rules along the way, I find that very distressing. Let's all cross our fingers for a wonderful and sort of smooth challenge...

Besides brainstorming and artsy fiddling, I spent my XL Weekend watching films with bookbuddy Jelle. He chose most of the films, but I was happy to offer a couple of suggestions and I found a film he hadn't seen yet. We caught up on books and life during lunch and then went up to the big screen in my attic for a hardcore moviemarathon.
On Saturday we watched an eclectic selection of English spoken films (see if you can discover the connection;)
  • Prometheus - scifi adventure, a prequel to the Alien series, not much plot, but gorgeous scenery and special effects. Plus bonus Idris Alba and Charlize Theron:)
  • Brave - picked by me; a beautifully animated film about a young Scottish girl who protests against her arranged marriage. Not as ligthhearted as I expected and also not your regular fairytale
  • Prayer For Bobby - a made for tv film about a religious mother (Sigourney Weaver) who hopes she can pray the gay away. Spoiler: she can't.
  • DINERBREAK
  • The Hunger Games - based on the book by Suzanne Collins about a post-apocalyptic world where teenagers are selected to compete in a televised battle to the death.
  • Cabin In The Woods - written by Joss Whedon, who created a surprisingly different kind of "Teenagers in the woods" thriller/slaughter movie. (Hey, Bradley Whitford!)
  • Magic Mike - emostripper film with lots of halfnaked musclemen. With apologies to all the hardworking guys (Hi, Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum) for giggling during the sexy dancing.

  • We went to bed around 01:30 a.m. :)

On Sunday we slept in and continued our marathon after breakfast with Noordzee,Texas - a sweet Belgian coming of age film about a young boy in the seventies. After lunch we watched Out In The Dark about a Palestinian student and an Israeli lawyer who meet in a gay-bar in Tel-Aviv. Adorably romantic until they have to face the reality of their situation.
To end on a less depressing note, we finished our filmweekend with The Avengers. Nothing distracts better from the real world than an attractive and sassy team of superhumans;)

What a splendid weekend. I took today off as well, to give myself some time to deal with all these stories. It was quite intense:)

If you want personal recommendations or a more extensive review of the films, let me know;)

Mom came over for dinner; I made 'my' spinach/macaroni/bacon dish, she brought dessert (yoghurt/quark with pear and honey). We then cycled to the arthouse (I lent her one of my bikes) to see Beginners with Ewan McGregor (son) and Christopher Plummer (his dad). What a lovely film. It made my mom cry. No extreme emotions for me, but it was a pleasure to watch these fine gentlemen on the big screen. I also liked Mélanie Laurent and Goran Visnjic (hey hi!) in their supporting roles. As I personally don't like to know too much about the content of a film, I won't give you a summary. There are plenty of places online where you can find more about the story;) If you like a good dose of melancholy, I highly recommend this film.

This morning I started in Mill On The Floss by George Eliot. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the accent of Mr. and Mrs. Tulliver, but their conversations are very amusing:)

Tonight I'm going to 500 Days Of Summer with my mom.
