On Sunday September 1st, the third day of my long weekend in the South of the Netherlands, it was finaly time for the main event: Bloemencorso Zundert 2024! (More about its history and the preparations for this event in my previous post. [LJ

Getting there )

Here we go!
I combined photos of each float from all the three times they came by to show them from all angles. The first passing was from 13:45 (quarter to 2 p.m.) until 15:15 (quarter past 3 p.m.), so it took all floats an hour and half to pass me by. Second and third passing of the parade went quicker, the last float on the way to the exhibition site passed at 18:30 (6:30 p.m.)

There were also a couple of musicbands in between the floats, but I didn't get any good photos of those unfortunately; they put on a great show!

Let's go watch the Flowerparade! )

What a great weekend!

You can find my videos of the flower floats in my YouTube playlist: Bloemencorso Zundert 2024.

The goal of my long visit to the South of the Netherlands was the Bloemencorso in Zundert; a yearly parade of flowerfloats. These are organised all over the Netherlands, but Zundert is the oldest (since 1936!) and biggest corso (20 floats) every first Sunday in September. Every neighbourhood (or hamlet) of Zundert has been working for months to build their own dahliafloat. On the Friday before the parade, they start putting on the fresh flowers; it's a community effort to get all the floats ready for the Sunday Parade.

I visited the Bloemencorso in Zundert before (in 2016 [LJ and 2018 [LJ].
This year I signed up for a corsotour on Saturday, where you get to hear about the history of the event and you visit two construction sites, to take a closer look at the finishing touches on the floats! Come join me :-)

Up next will be my photos of the flowerparade. If you can't wait I have already posted my videos at my YouTube, here's my playlist: Bloemencorso Zundert 2024.

For my most recent long weekend off, I started planning in April when tickets for the Flowerparade in the small town of Zundert went on sale; I've been to this yearly festive event before (in 2016 [LJ and 2018 [LJ] -it's on every first Sunday of September-, but it's a long daytrip from where I live, so this time I wanted to treat myself to a hotel nearby, in Breda. I added extra days before and after, to also have an opportunity to explore that city in the South of the Netherlands. I did a boat trip around Breda and discovered an artproject with murals all over town, so even before the main goal of my visit, my cameras were doing overtime, heehee. I came home with nearly 1000 photos, haha!
I'll start with a picspam of my days in Breda and will share my Flowerparade visit later.

If you can't wait to see the Flowerparade, I have already posted a couple of videos of that over at my YouTube. (I will be adding more to the playlist Bloemencorso Zundert 2024 soon!)

Day 1: An afternoon in Breda )

Day 2: Cyclingtour Murals )

To be continued!

If you've been following me for a while, you may remember my visits to the big Flowersculpture Parade in Zundert in 2016 and last year; a long train- and bustrip to the South of the Netherlands that takes about three hours. This year I decided to explore two smaller events nearby; these are only a 50 minute busride away from my town! I have one planned next week and yesterday after work in the morning, I traveled to Sint Jansklooster for their yearly 'Bloemencorso'!

Unlike in Zundert where the massive flowerstructures are all pushed by manpower with a whole group of people hidden underneath, other Corsos in the Netherlands use motorized carts, so the parade goes a little faster. Obviously it's still slow enough to enjoy the show, but compared to my experience last year, it felt like they were speeding by! There were also fewer designs, but honestly this parade was just as impressive and enjoyable. I had a great time!

I made a couple of videos, here's a playlist that features the designs that had moving bits:

If you want to see all twelve designs, below is a picspam of 82 photos (hey, I had to capture them from all sides and in detail;)

Thousands of flowers! )

This was a pretty good year for me. I made a couple of cool trips, hung out with friends and met new people. Here's a picspam that ticks all those boxes: in September I traveled to the South of the Netherlands for the Corso in Zundert, a yearly flower sculpture parade. (I visited it in 2016 as well:) This year I met up there with longtime LJ friend tanisafan and her partner fuluoliang, who both traveled there from Belgium (which was closer than my town!). We had a great time catching up and watching all the awesome flower floats:)

Which one is your favorite? Which one do you think is the winner? (I happened to agree with the jury's choice, I'll tell you in the comments;)

Another favorite challenge: fanmix/CD covers! In the past I have done a few of these for fandom projects with music chosen by authors I collaborated with. This time I went through my own archives of (old) mixtapes/CDs after picking my objects of affection.
I wanted the designs to feel like real 'old fashioned' album covers.

I started with a scene from The Losers that to me looked just like one of those photos of an indie band gazing gloomily into the distance. I chose moody music for the guys (that in my mind could fit their relationship in the film as well as be a disgruntled lovers kind of mood;).
I also really wanted to do something with that amazing red photoshoot with SMG and Co (that I had used for a sigtag in an earlier challenge). I zoomed in on Buffy and Willow, debated calling it the witch/slayer mix but then realized their last names sounded perfect as a duo. I put together songs with a ladies' theme for those two.
When I came across the fabulous photos of Jeff Goldblum, I knew just the funky songs that fit him, and that turned into a very eclectic set.

Made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart: 6 Front/Back Cover including 10 Songs (each!)

Heh, it seems all I do at LJ these days is post picspams. I plan to return to regular browsing and commenting and updating tomorrow. With my calf still healing from that whiplash, I've been feeling very blah and not up for anything after getting home from work (when I finally have managed to climb the stairs up to my apartment) *sighs*
I am glad I had already planned a couple of fun weekend things before the accident, so I didn't have a chance to get down on my days off in the past few weeks:)

Below are photos (and videos!) from last weekend's adventure: I took the bus and train and train and bus to travel down South to the small town of Zundert for their yearly flower corso. The local communities work all year on their huge designs made out of dahlias -all those flowers are put on fresh in the final three days of building the sculptures!- and they present all their creations in a spectacular parade.

LOOK HOW PRETTY! )
I had a great day and whole heartedly recommend going to one of these flower corsos. Zundert is the oldest (and best;) one, but the first week of September these parades are all over the Netherlands; well worth the travel!

So. London. I got home on Sunday and had planned to do a picspam the next day, but then I got a massive attack of snot and the barking cough, so I had to take it slowly. But I finally managed to sort out my photos; how did I make so many in only two days? I narrowed it down to 62 (...) plus a video of Big Ben:

It took me nine boings to get my phone to work, but at least I captured the last one! *grins*

My face, lots of food and also sightseeing )
day 2: sightseeing, hotel, theatre and a bubble bath )
day 3: Camden, Prim Rose and other bits of London )
That was a lot of babbling too, oops.
I hope to catch up with everyone in the next few days (and also get a move on with all the art-challenges, yikes!). Off to bed now to fight the snot. Goodnight!

Hey, remember that watch-list I made of Jeffrey Dean Morgan interviews on the LateLateShow with Craig Ferguson? This morning I found a clip of his most recent appearance with the new host, the lovely James Corden. Guess what? James couldn't stop himself flirting either. This. Man.

Goshdarnit.

Definitely want to watch Extant with Halle Berry. Haven't seen the first season, heard that was so bad they changed things around and got JDM in to start new storyline. He described the role himself as a guy not unlike John Winchester... *grabby hands*

Now, if you'll excuse me, I got some fanart fiddling to do. Anyone else preparing for next Sunday's pornpile at [livejournal.com profile] smpc? Read more about the anniversary celebrations here:)

Oh, hey, hi! I've been spending a lot of time reading offline (I recommend the Tamír Triad by Lynn Flewelling) and have finally found some time to start watching Orphan Black (also recommended).
For those of you who were wondering about the lack of updates on my paperproject; I've been trying to work out how tall Jeff needs to be to fit with his wings. It required collecting and cutting a lot of full body photos. For research.
Here's a peek at my other study-materials )
No travelplans and no huge challenges for November and December means I can dedicate some time to making.... Christmascards*, woohoo! Who wants one? Leave your address in the comments (they are screened) or email it to me: BeeLikeJ@gmail.com - Even if I already should have it, give a shout if you want a card.
In addition I would like to know if you remember how we first connected; was it through a particular fandom, did we meet in a community ... remind me, please!
Don't feel obligated to send me a card in return (although that would be nice;) - this is not a meme or an exchange; if you want a card, you shall get one!

*They may turn out to be New Years cards, but they will have the holiday spirit;)

Been feeling a bit down this week and today I saw everyone's response to the Supernatural Final so I thought this would be a good time to share that silly video I made for the SPN Cinema Challenge. To spare those who are not into paperpuppetporn, I put it behind a cut;) Consider that your warning to not watch this in a public place, mkay?
