The only creative community I'm currently involved in is no longer at Livejournal: [community profile] landofart has moved to Dreamwidth! Good thing I have already been (t)here for years as well ;-)
If that is the incentive you wanted to join in, come on over! Phase 24 continues for all of 2025 with new challenges to create graphics every couple of weeks. Fandom is optional. With your graphics you collect points for yourself and your team (and you can also earn Golden Tickets, which you can use when you want or need to skip a challenge)

Go here for FAQ!
Should you decide to sign up, please mention my name (so I score 5 points for me and my team SteamPunk)
You can apply for a team here!

Due to travel (for work) I missed a few challenges and I handed in Golden Tickets for a couple of them as well, but here's what I made so far for Phase 24:
Challenge 1 - Signatures Here )

Challenge 2 - Stocking Holidays )

Challenge 3 - Hide & Seek )

Challenge 7 - Frenemies )

Challenge 15 - Promotion
A demo on combining images into a graphic, featuring The Bride of Frankenstein (1935).

I was going through my blog and journals (as you do this time of year;-), and I noticed I completely forgot to share the stuff I made for Land of Art in 2024. My year was mostly filled with work and travel (which was also mostly for work) but I did manage to squeeze in some creative times. So I figured for my end of year post, I'll just picspam y'all with my graphic designs.

But first, to round up this year properly, here's what I did since the previous journal post in October, with links to my photos on Instagram:
  • I had a quick weekend in London for a play that was cancelled last minute (but I found another one to at least make the most of my weekend in November)
  • I built a cabinet for my renovated shower
  • I went on another businesstrip to England as well, where I didn't really go sightseeing, but did discover a lovely outdoors pool that was decorated for Christmas in December
  • I celebrated Sinterklaas with my family

Now, without further ado: all the fanart graphics I made this year!

Land of Art Phase 22 - Summer 2024
I handed in Golden Tickets for Challenge 1, 9 and 11. I missed Challenge 3 and Challenge 14 was a puzzle challenge, so no artwork for all of these.

    Challenge 2 - Stop & Stare )

    Challenge 4 - Technique )

    Challenge 5 - Hide & Seek )

    Challenge 6 - If You Believe )

    Challenge 7 - That's New to Me )

    Challenge 8 - Mother's Day )

    Challenge 10 - The Scenic Route )

    Challenge 12 - Call Me Daddy )

Challenge 13 - All About That Base )

Challenge 15 - Show Me the Pain )

Land of Art Phase 23 - Autumn 2024
This phase was supposed to last through December and into 2025, but was cut short because everyone is too busy with work. Team challenge 3 is moved to the next phase, challenge 7&8 were not posted.

    PH23CH01 - Follow the Leader )

    PH23CH02 - Mini Bang )

    PH23CH04 - You were the First )

    PH23CH05 - What if I'm the Bad Guy )

    PH23CH06 - The Saddest Goodb )

    PH23CH09 - On The Side )

That's all! Wishing everyone all the best for the holidays :-)

Well, December was another wild month; I didn't get to go on the planned businesstrip (that is postponed to the end of January), but I had plenty of stuff to do.

We had elections in the Netherlands; my green party joined a collaboration with the socialist party in the hope of building a big left wing powerblock. Unfortunately more people voted for the angry right and those conservative parties are currently working on a coalition for government. *big sigh*

Happier happenings: my family celebrated Sinterklaas (Photos of the surprise packages I build and received in my Instagram) and my birthday was fun as well (Check out my awesome over the top cake!).

If you're on other socials, I now also have an account on BlueSky, let me know if you want me add/follow you there:) I'll share a complete list of my platforms next year. I will at least continue to share stuff on Dreamwidth and Livejournal. This final post of 2023 is a round-up of my Land of Art graphics.

Challenge 11 - Fake it, Till You Make It )

    Challenge 12 - Cracked )

    Challenge 13 - A Panoramic Twist )

I handed in Golden Tickets for Challenge 14 - Hide & Seek Characters (Prep) because I was lacking time to come up with approved character types and create banners.

    Challenge 15 - A Silver Lining )

For Challenge 16 - Where is the End Point? everyone had to find mazes to share and solve. That was more fun than I initially thought, I did 27 of them! Here, have one, with bonus colouring option:)
    VarkensDoolhof_LoA_BLJ_Ch16PH21.png

    Challenge 17 - Associate This! )

    Challenge 18 - Characters Wear What? )

That's all for this year, hope to see you here in 2024!

Pff, those were some worlwind weeks since my previous post. In between work being crazy busy (as usual;) I had a long weekend off for a theatre trip to London, including a night at the Leicester Square Theatre for Richard Herring's podcast; he interviewed Tim Key, who presented his book of poems, and Davina McCall, a hero of mine ever since her MTV days, she was so cool and gorgeous. I also met up with an international workfriend:) I shared a bunch of photos at my Instagram:
Part 1: Night Ferry / Breakfast / Undergrond / Rain / Black Friars Bridge / Exploring Bankside (Artsy:) / Shakespeare's Globe! | Part 2: More exploring Bankside (Winchester Palace / As You Like It at Shakespeare's Globe! / Golden Hind galleon) / King's Cross Hotel / IFO (rainbow swing) by IFO Jacques Rival. | Part 3: Saint Chad! (for the SPN RPF fangirls;) / King's Cross / British Library / Detail of St. Pancras railway sculpture frieze (The Meeting Place by Paul Day) / Skeleton at Liberty / Lunch at Mother Mash with G.

I received some great fandom news: after a process of over two (2!) years, the import of the Nick&Greg fic archive WMTDB is finally complete and the collection of over 2000 stories is now safely stored in our own collection at AO3!

I continued to play in Land of Art Phase 21: Challenge 10 was a Halloween/Autumn Edition Scavenger Hunt where we had to find specific images and create a whole bunch of spooky or autumny graphic designs. I dove into all sorts of monster and witches films and also rediscovered the Buffy and Angel fandom:-)
I managed to find all the required images/screenshots and below I'm sharing all the stuff I created; a mood theme, icons, sigtags, picspams, bookmarks, colorbars, headers, panoramas, posters, tumblr graphics and wallpapers!

    ALL THE THINGS! )

    16PanoramaWitches_Ph21.png

    MORE THINGS! )

With another businesstrip ahead of me, I may have to hand in some Golden Tickets for a few coming challenges to have enough time to do the ones I really want to do. Today I'm working on colouring pages, it's so relaxing getting out the pencils:-)

Uh-oh, Livejournal changed their photo-album lay-out and interface. I don't like change, so it will take some time to get used to all the new bits. All functionality still seems to be intact, so I hope the 14,000+ images I archived over the years are safe.

I'm currently in the middle of [livejournal.com profile] landofart Phase 21 and instead of waiting until the end (in December), I figured I'd already start sharing the graphic designs I created to far. Included fandoms are: Orphan Black, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, the Witchter. Enjoy.
(FYI: most of the graphics are clickable for full size)

    Challenge 1 - Inspiration Representation  )

    Challenge 2 - Multi-Shape Madness )

    Challenge 3 - And Scene )

Challenge 4 - When We Were Young )

Challenge 5 is Secret Santa, I didn't sign up for that one, because both giving and receiving anonymous art make me nervous.

    Challenge 6 - Halloween Battle (Round 1) )
BATTLE 8: Fog vs Tombstones > TOMBSTONES
    8_Tombstones_Ch06PH21RND1_BLJ.jpg

    Challenge 7 - Facial Features )

Challenge 8 is Seasonal Teamwork, a long running multiple fandom challenge, in which my team SteamPunk works together to create a 24 graphic designs, based on episodes 1-24 of different tv show seasons. Deadline is in December:)

    Challenge 9 - Texturized )

Challenge 10 is a Scavengerhunt where you collect or create specific fandom related images before November 15. I will start on that next week. To be continued...

I'm off to London for a long weekend of theatre (Shakespeare! RHLSTP!). What are your plans for the weekend?

Hey hi, how is everyone doing and... where is everyone? I'm spending most of my online time on Instagram. Meanwhile I'm hoping more people will join Mastodon or a similar open network so we can all hang out in the same timelines again. I have a BeeLikeJ personal account on http://mastodon.social and a fandom account on http://fandom.ink, feel free to interact on one or both of them:)

I didn't do any fandom challenges this year (as moderator nor as an artist) but from March until June I did join Land Of Art and made graphics! Due to work, all the traveling and home projects I didn't get around to posting them before, but today I'm putting them online, before the next Phase starts. Let's see if it all fits in one post...

Oh, speaking of home projects, I said goodbye to my 2005 aubergine couch and bought a new colourful bespoke couch from the Dutch Seating Company (dsco.nl) LOOK:

    BLJ-RookerElementenBank_DSCO_NL.jpg

I LOVE IT SO MUCH <3 (You can see other angles and my previous couch here on IG)

Anyway, here are a bunch of graphics (I did sneak in a couple of fandom faces:)

    Challenge 1 - Panoramic Tags )

    Challenge 2 - Being Hunted )

    Challenge 3 - Hide and Seek )

    No Graphics:
    - I handed in Golden Tickets for Challenge 4 - Cats vs Dogs
    - Challenge 5 - The Egg Hunt was a candy gamble game

    Challenge 6 - Episodic Posters )

Challenge 7 - Hide & Seek Backgrounds in Films )

    Challenge 8 - Competition Fantasy Vs. Sci-Fi )

    Challenge 9 - Color Battles )

End of first half, to be continued!

Yay, lots of improvements on my shoulder mobility since my last update. I was able to get on my bicycle again and after trying it carefully in the weekend to do groceries, I also cycled to the office again every weekday.
I started on my 'senior citizen' bike, which has a low step and saddle, so I didn't need to put my full weight on my arms when getting on and off. On Wednesday evening I decided to try my regular (high) bike to cycle to my mom; this route includes a steep bridge, so it's good exercise;) It feels very good to have my independence back and to no longer need public transport or a ride from my mom to move around.
I'm still going to physical therapy; my left shoulder still needs kneeding and I've been getting new exercises to further improve mobility and strength in my arms. We'll see how much time I need to full recovery, but I'm already feeling like myself again. (Now not to have this happen again and learn to take regular breaks in between fiddling on the computer, both professionally and privately;)

Speaking of fiddling on a computer: here are the final graphics I made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart.

Woohoo, I have an extra superlong weekend! In the last week my shoulder mobility has been improving: I went to Aquarobics again for the first time since March. Afterwards I did feel a bit of pain in my shoulders, but it was good pain from exercising, not bad pain for overstretching, if you know what I mean.
Yesterday I had another appointment at the physical therapist, who pinched my left shoulder and made me aware I'm still not a 100% and to take it easy. He did -finally- agree to give me a few exercises to do at home. I got one of those elastic bands to stretch my arms with, but also strict instructions to only do that once every other day and not to do all the exersizes at once, pfff.
Anyway, lets continue catching up with the graphics I made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart in April and May:

    Ch06_PH18 - Icon Battlefield )

Ch07_PH18 - Two Ways to Say Goodbye )

    Ch10_PH18 - Inspire Me )

    Ch11_PH18 - Can You Text )

    Ch12_PH18 - First & Last  )

Challenge 13 was a puzzle challenge (digital jigsaw, wordsearches and mazes:)

    Ch14PH18 - We Are Family )

Ch15Ph18 - So Close, Yet So Far  )

Is today a national holiday for you too? I took Friday off to create my four-day weekend:) Hope to use my days to catch up on LJ and DW!

    CHALLENGE:
Make up to a total of 6 sigtags (300x150) or icons (100x100) for your team
    - Your team name must be included and for sigtags only, your username must be included.
    - You can use whatever you want on it. Text Only, fandoms, stock, celebrities, you choose. - Team names are just that, team names, they do not have to inspire your art.

I am in Team PopArt and I made 4 sigtags (signature tags;) and 2 icons (userpics)

    Icon_BuffyEyeroll_BLJ_LoAPh14.png Icon_Roses_BLJ_LoAPh14.png

In the [livejournal.com profile] landofart we use these sigtags to sign off on our artwork when we hand in our designs.

If these artposts make you curious and you want to join in, you can! We've only just started and there are different new challenges every couple of days until July. You can do a little or a lot, main goal is to get creative. Low pressure, no judgement, lots of inspiration:)
You can sign up here (Or first read the FAQ here)

Don't hesitate to ask any questions about fonts, images or the Land of Art community, here or in a PM. I love babbling about my design choices;)

P.S. In case you missed it: I posted new papercut art earlier this week: A Sexy Surprise to illustrate a fanfic in the Quicky_Bang. It's a little naughty underwear, so NSFW! [DW]
    beelikej: (Vinyl)
Another favorite challenge: fanmix/CD covers! In the past I have done a few of these for fandom projects with music chosen by authors I collaborated with. This time I went through my own archives of (old) mixtapes/CDs after picking my objects of affection.
I wanted the designs to feel like real 'old fashioned' album covers.

I started with a scene from The Losers that to me looked just like one of those photos of an indie band gazing gloomily into the distance. I chose moody music for the guys (that in my mind could fit their relationship in the film as well as be a disgruntled lovers kind of mood;).
I also really wanted to do something with that amazing red photoshoot with SMG and Co (that I had used for a sigtag in an earlier challenge). I zoomed in on Buffy and Willow, debated calling it the witch/slayer mix but then realized their last names sounded perfect as a duo. I put together songs with a ladies' theme for those two.
When I came across the fabulous photos of Jeff Goldblum, I knew just the funky songs that fit him, and that turned into a very eclectic set.

Made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart: 6 Front/Back Cover including 10 Songs (each!)

    TEASERS:

This was one of my favorite Challenges in [livejournal.com profile] landofart, because I got to play with new types of set ups. I was familiar with lovebars from my early days in the CSI fandom, but I didn't know there was also a variation called a colorbar. I had never heard of a Panarama, but I love the whole concept; five icons that together make a complete image. Both of these compositions had dimensions and sizes I had never worked with before. It was very exciting to put them together!

I made two colorbars and a Panarama:)

(No I didn't skip a number; Challenge 5 is a BigBang Team Challenge, due in December:)
The Hide & Seek Challenge has several rounds; I submitted three fandoms for this in (pre-)Challenge 3 and so did other participants, so we start with a whole bunch of fandoms to choose from. After each round, random fandoms are eliminated to eventually end up with a winning fandom. If you chose to make something for one of the fandoms that are taken out, you lose a life. Every participant starts with three lives.
For the first round of Challenge 6 I chose to only make a banner for BladeRunner. Good thing I did, because all my submitted fandoms were eliminated, and now I only lost one life, pfew. Fortunately I can play on in the next rounds of Hide & Seek with any of the other fandoms my fellow Land of Arters submitted.

I'll add any additional designs I make for the next rounds to this post.

I've been playing in [livejournal.com profile] landofart for the past few weeks again and am finally making time to post all the graphic designs I created so far. I'm planning to post everything up to challenge 10 this weekend.

Challenge 1 was to promote Land of Art, I didn't make any new banners for this, but I did do shout outs all over my social media:) [On LJ & DW amongst others.]

Challenge 2 was the traditional making of personal icons & so called sigtags that you use to sign your submissions with your teamname. I'm on team SteamPunk:) I created 3 sigtags & 3 icons:

Yesterday brotherdearest came over to fix my upstair's computer and to continue our everlasting Buffy/Angel marathon. We watched the final episodes of Season 4 and 1 respectively. It was obvious we now reached the episodes that we only watched once (or maybe twice;) in the past; there were a lot of scenes we didn't remember, while before we would voice over a lot of dialogue. It was fun to feel suspense again.

I can't look at Christian Kane now without connecting him to J2 fanfiction. Especially when a screenshot of him reminded me of a gorgeous still of a certain Jensen Ackles in Supernatural.

I had to capture it: look how pretty! )
