"As a Christian, I've absolutely nothing against gay people, but I'm against homosexuality on a moral level as it doesn't contribute to society and is against natural law in a teleological point of view."

Yuhuh.

Oooh, here's a song to go with that beautiful statement:

All together now!

News that's been on my mind this week:

Cigarette makers lose appeal in landmark case
By NEDRA PICKLER - Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A federal appeals court on Friday agreed with the major elements of a 2006 landmark ruling that found the nation's top tobacco companies guilty of racketeering and fraud for deceiving the public about the dangers of smoking.
[...]
"The government presented evidence from the 1950s and continuing through the following decades demonstrating that the defendant manufacturers were aware - increasingly so as they conducted more research - that smoking causes disease, including lung cancer," the appeals court wrote in a 92-page opinion.

The government also argued the manufacturers lied about the dangers of secondhand smoke, manipulated cigarettes to maintain addiction, intentionally marketed to youth and destroyed documents to hide the dangers and protect themselves in litigation. (Source)

I have a lot of thoughts about this, but I'm too tired of explaining over and over again, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy being right.

I can not capture in words how much I love Jon Stewart and his 'Daily' Show. These past weeks I finally managed to watch it on a regular basis again. I'm still amazed about the amount of issues on which I agree with the opinion expressed on this show. It's one of the few USA-based programs that comfort me by proving there are actually people out there who can see the ridiculousness in political and social responses to current events. I would never be able to joke about some of the serious subjects and still make the message clear.

To share my view on the world I'm planning to be lazy and simply copy the opinion of others make a weekly post with the news-story that hit me the hardest. This week that's the case of Lt. Dan Choi, an Iraq combat veteran and a West Point graduate with a degree in Arabic who will be discharged from the army for being openly gay.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit I always thought Don't Ask Don't Tell was a farce; something that was jokingly said about the armed forces. I'm very shocked to find out it's actually a law.
If you are not aware of the case, I encourage you to read Dan Choi's open letter to President Obama before you watch the Daily Show video. It is such a well written explanation of why it's wrong to force soldiers to hide in the closet, especially in these times.

I am very disappointed in Mr. Obama's response so far. What are TPTB afraid of?

Monsters

Do you remember how to open the Monsterbook of Monsters? I didn't know I needed to use the same technique on that nifty Ipod I was given. I tried to push the buttons, clicking like a madwoman while cursing and getting dangerously close to throwing the damn thing away. I spent most of my weekend figuring this out: to make it work, I need to stroke it gently. Lesson learned.

I'm bored. Hanging-on-the-couch-and-do-nothing-bored. So I just forced myself to get up and post something. Anything.

There was a discussion on tv about whether Deep Throat can be shown on public television. Two tv-organisations plan to show that porn-classic on February 23, right after a special edition of 'Spuiten & Slikken' (Shoot-up and Swallow) - a (regular) live talkshow for young adults about sexuality and drugs. The idea is to have an educational and informative talk about porn beforehand.
The Christian party in parliament wants to put a stop to the plan. I think they will fail. Because politicians are not the ones that decide what is shown on tv.
I'm not sure if I want to see it, but as you know I'm against censorship and prefer people to make up their own mind. I wonder if they have the documentary Inside Deep Throat planned as well. From what I've read about it, it puts the original film in quite a different perspective.

At the moment I have something entirely different on in the background: a program inspired by the movie '40 Days and 40 Nights'. A group of young adults has pledged to go without sex for that amount of time. That's including masturbation. Oh dear, I think someone failed. Quelle surprise.
