After years of fiddling with hands-on arts & crafts, this year I returned to good old digital designs. For the 2020 edition of [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I made my own version of the Zoolander movie poster, featuring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. I had initially wanted to give the lead to the very pretty Jensen Ackles, but then I remembered that awesome dress-up he did as Brad Pitt with the blond wig and decided he would be the perfect Hansel. So Jared ended up as Zoolander, haha!

Title: Padackles
Movie Prompt: Zoolander
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating Artwork: G
Summary: Jared Padalecki is two time male model of the year, but new contender Jensen Ackles is a serious threat to Jared's crown. Let the big Padackles show-down begin!

Are you challenging me to a walk-off... Padaleski?  )

So my old webspace storage is locking down and I'm hunting down old images all over my blogs and journals to relink them. Came across a fun DIY post from the 2014 Cinema Challenge, where I made worksheets for paperpuppets of Jared, Jensen and Jeff. With loads of people sitting at home for a while, I figured I'd share them again, for everyone looking for a bit of fandom fun:)

4335 Complete Paperset TT
On the top Team Texas, who I take on an adventure in the original artpost.
On the bottom the J3 puppets:) You can download pdf-worksheets from my GoogleDrive:
Paperpuppet Jensen | Paperpuppet Jared | Paperpuppet Jeff

As mentioned on the worksheet, you'll need:
- scissors and an exacto knife;
- brass fasteners (8 per puppet);
- string: 2 short pieces (about 10 cm each) and a long piece for pulling;
- a (calender) hanger (stickertype)

Print the worksheets on thick paper (I used 375 grams Granite white) - or glue your print on a bit of cardboard.
Size=A4 (21x29,7cm) - Finished puppetsizes: Jensen=38cm; Jared=40cm. For the record: Jeff=39cm;).

A STEP BY STEP GUIDE [DW]

I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home as everyone in my country is ordered to self isolate. While having to keep in touch with co-workers and especially the new group that I'm training, I'm doing more socializing digitally than I'm used to doing in person at the office, pfff. But I'm glad I'm busy and now that I've settled into the routine a bit, I hope to have enough energy left to catch up with some picspams of my travels. (I haven't forgotten that I never finished the Japan series, but first I'll share a bit of my recent trip to London:)

Be safe, everyone.

For this year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I wanted to experiment more with paper animation, so I chose a film with a very imaginitive production design, that I of course turned into a playground for J2. I also managed to sneak in Jeff and Chad, but it would take too much time to explain how they fit in the story. If you've seen the film, you may be able to picture them as Jared's co-workers;)
No knowledge of the film is necessary to -hopefully- enjoy the final thing I made. May I present:

Title: Parallel Synchronized Randomness
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] beelikej
Movie Prompt: The Science of Sleep (2006)
Pairing: Jensen/Jared
Rating: G
Media: Papercutting & Stop motion animation
Concept: Jared escapes his boring life imagining a magical alternative reality. When he gets love-struck by his neighbour Jensen, he tries to woo him by showing him his creative dreamworld.

Thank you, Cinema Mods for organizing this event! I didn't get to spend as much time on this project as I wanted, mostly because I kept running out of daylight, but I had loads of fun:)

Full disclosure: I had not seen Disney's Beauty & The Beast when I claimed that animated film for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema back in August. It's just that after hearing Jensen refer to Jared as 'Gaston' yet again, I wanted an excuse to buy the DVD and watch it;)

It was... not what I had expected. Without spoiling the film for anyone, let's just say I was baffled by the harshness and cruelty in between the charming moments. I had fun giving it my own more positive twist.
The look of the film is mostly old school animation and I was pleasantly surprised by the cool design of fairytale slides that introduced and ended the main story. I used that drawn stained glass look as inspiration for the visualisation of my cast (no points for guessing who is my Beast:)

May I present:

TitelteaserBowlegsBeast.png

Title: The Tale of Chad, Torso, Bowlegs & The Beast
Artist: [personal profile] beelikej
Movie Prompt: Beauty and the Beast (Disney, 1991)
Pairing: Jeff/Jensen
Rating: G
Media: Coloured pencils & papercutting
Concept: Chad takes Jared "Torso" Padalecki & Jensen "Bowlegs" Ackles on an adventure to fight the massive Beast in the nearby castle. Well, that's how he tells the tale anyway;)

When I pick a film for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I don't usually know beforehand what I'm going to do with it. I just like to choose a story I love to rewatch while imagining my favorite guys in the lead *grins*. This time I went with a mermaid theme for Jensen and Jeff:) The Cinema challenge was in between lots of other projects and even though I considered playing with clay or papier-mâché to create a merman's tail, I simply wouldn't have been able to do the idea justice. Fortunately I came across an inspirational artwork that reminded me of a visual I had wanted to try for a long time: a stained glass effect! So here's what I ended up creating:

Title: You Said Whatever My Secret Was, You'd Understand
Medium: Papercutting and paint
Movie Prompt: Splash (1984)
Pairing: Jeff/Merman!Jensen
Rating: G!
Concept: As a young boy Jeff is rescued from drowning off Cape Cod by a young merboy. Jeff isn’t sure what he has seen and what he has imagined.
Years later, using maps from a sunken ship, the still very young merman (Jensen! FYI: mermen age much slower than humans;) decides to search for Jeff in New York City, sprouting legs when his tail dries. When he finds Jeff, they fall in love, but Jensen's secret will no longer be a secret when he gets his legs wet...

For every art-challenge I participate in, I set myself a new goal. After doing a lot of papercutting and a bit of watercolour painting for previous projects, I wanted to get back to digital design. So for this edition of [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I played in Photoshop again. \o/

I tried some new techniques and the visuals came pretty close to what I had in mind, even if I strayed from my original plan of manipulating scenes. I also included more text than I initially planned because I’m just so fond of the film's script; a couple of conversations hit me right in the feels and I simply had to add those words to emphasize (or possibly clarify) the images.

DEF 2016M Cinema Gdam Day.png
LA, 1968. Jeff is a college professor who recently lost his partner, Jensen, in a car accident. As he goes about his daily routine, his encounters with an old friend (Danneel) and a young student (Jared) lead him to reconsider whether life is worth living without Jensen.

Title: Just Get Through The Goddamn Day
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] beelikej
Movie Prompt: A Single Man
Pairing: Jeff/Jensen (past), Jeff/Danneel (past), Jeff/Jared (potential)
Rating: PG
Media: Digital Graphic Design (Photoshop)
Notes: The film is set in the early sixties but I ended up with a look that's closer to the end of that era because I felt Jeff’s appearance fit that time better *grins*. There’s an even greater age difference in the film, I adjusted the ages to suit my fandom favorites, but Danneel is closer to Jeff's age here.

For the first time in my life I can't see my future. Every day goes by in a haze, but today I have decided will be different. )

Babbling and Sources )

I didn't add a making off, but I can do one if anyone is interested in Photoshop masks and filters.
Comments are always welcome, whether it’s concrit or simply a smile :)

For this year's edition of [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I picked the first film I ever saw in the cinema: Grease! An ode to the fifties yet definitely a timeless musical. Back in 1978 I had no idea how dirty the lyrics were, I just phonetically sang along;) It's still one of my favorite films. To keep with the tradition of actors who were too old to play highschoolstudents, I ignored the actual age difference between Jeff & Jensen and I also included a Chevy Impala, which hadn't even been born in this era. It's an Alternate Universe after all. :-p

Title: You're The One That I Want
Medium: Photoshop, marker and papercuttings
Film: Grease (1978)
Pairing: Jensen/JDM
Rating: G(!)
Concept: Highschool AU. Bad boy Jeff falls in love with young, clean cut Jensen; they struggle with their romance amongst social expectations and high school politics.
Note: Made for 2015 edition of [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema and dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] tmn1966: happy birthday, T.! The Ohio numberplate of the Impala is especially for you;)

In the art-section below you'll find manips, collages and more papercutting. I was inspired to put young Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the role of John Travolta (Danny) after seeing screenshots of Jeff in his first film Uncaged; he was such a bad boy in that. For his love interest I of course had to cast Jensen Ackles, because I adore the two of them together. :-p
My imagination went wilder than I was able to capture in art, but I did hint at my ideas (Jeff and his friends Danneel and Hillarie call themselves the J-birds; Jensen is an athlete and hangs with the Padalecki Posse...see if you can spot Jared and Chad in supporting parts)

ACTION! )

I love comments, no matter how short or long, feel free to point out mistakes or ask for clarification:)

After I decided to step away from one of my favorite art challenges, I felt a little lost. So I was very happy with the new bimonthly [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema project! Especially since it offers a short turn-around and posting time, which is just the kind of schedule my muse and I need. When the chosen genre for the first round was revealed to be The eighties I knew there would be filmprompts to my liking. Those were my teen-years, people, tons of films with fond memories:)

My goal was to play in Photoshop (if you can't see what I did, I did it right;) and not to overthink things. I ended up fiddling in Illustrator as well, if only because I'm more familiar with it. I did not succeed in the 'less is more' look I was aiming for, but the guys were at least a nice distraction from the mess that is real life right now. I hope they offer you the same:)

May I present:

Title: Project InnerSpace
Medium: Photoshop and Illustrator
Movie Prompt: Innerspace (1987)
Pairing: Jensen/Jeff with a hint of Jensen/Jared
Rating: G!

Concept: After one drunken display too many, cocky lieutenant Jeff "JD" Morgan is kicked out of the army and his long time partner, journalist Jensen Ackles, breaks up with him. JD signs up to be the pilot of a secret science project. He will be miniaturized to be injected in a rabbit to do research from the inside! Just as the experiment is on its way, the lab is attacked. The projectleader manages to escape with the syringe and during the chase mini-Jeff is accidently injected in the body of passerby Jared Padalecki...

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 for prompting the film (one of the rules is that you can't pick your own prompts, but I'd love to see what you would have done with this;) and giving me a reason to watch this classic again.
Kudos to Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan and Martin Short, who play the original characters in Innerspace, they are such fun!

Anyone else anxiously waiting for the claim post for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema genre challenge? If my calculations are correct, it should appear in about half an hour, exactly at the time I would usually leave work and catch the bus home. I don't mind taking a later bus, as long as I know I'm not waiting in vain...
I made a short list of my three favorite prompted films from the 80s, but haven't decided in which order to try and claim. *sighs* I missed these pre-challenge nerves;)

Guess I better focus on work until it's time. (No worries, I'm on my own this afternoon. Let's hope there won't be any last minute clients or customers walking in right before five o' clock. (Why does one do that anyway? Rude.)

ETA: hahahaha, of course someone knocked on the door right after I locked it. But! Was still in time to claim and got my first choice, yay! *runs to bus*

Good things: love the fandom love on my flist: spread it around, SPN-people, with your adorable countdown-meme to the start of the season. *rolls around in the squee*. Also; [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema is starting up a new bi-monthly challenge, wootwoot, count me in!

I felt some love from my CSI Nick/Gregfandom too, but have yet to see the first episode of season 15 (FIFTEEN!) - I'm a little hesitant because half of my otp now has a beard (the literal hairy kind) and the other forgot to style his hair and I don't want to be shallow, but... oh who am I kidding, I watch for the pretty, okay? This lack of consideration for my preferences better get fixed soon!

Not so good: yesterday afternoon we got a visit of some people from victimcare ("slachtofferhulp") at work to help me and the co-worker to -finally- express our feelings about the kidnapping of the bossman in May. Since we had five months to think about that and the consequences, we had a lot to talk about. Yet I had not expected to feel so out of sorts after it; I have not slept well last night and I'm exhausted. There will be a follow up appointment at home with a 'personal' counselor next week. I guess I better make a list of stuff to unload.

More good things: I'm going to The Hague tomorrow afternoon, because my brother scored me a ticket for the World Wide Cinema Event of Stephen Fry presenting his new book More Fool Me. (I may have already mentioned that when I updated my booklist to reread the first two parts of his biography:). He will do the presentation on stage in London, but it will be shown live in cinemas all over the world, so cool. Looking very much forward to that. Will work half a day and then start the long journey to the West:) Will report when I get back home!

Oh, question; would anyone be interested if I did WIP progress posts while I'm working on my own art-project? I'm thinking about sharing to keep me going since it's not for a running challenge. (It would also save me time when I'm ready to reveal;)
beelikej: (Shiver RHPS)
Heehee, remember my artwork for this year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema? This morning I received a request for a DIY worksheet of paperpuppet JDM! I honestly hadn't meant to keep him to myself (okay, maybe I did), it's just that I only made Jeff 'in character' and I wasn't sure people would like that. So for all of you who were afraid to publicly reveal your wish to play with Jeff, there is now a pdf-download of the Jeffrey Dean Morgan puppet available (I'd like to imagine he's wearing the Texas belt buckle to amuse J2;)

Have fun! (If you need more instructions, check out the step-by-step guide in my cinema challenge artpost)

Also: I'm posting my artwork for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang tomorrow. *bounces*

Finally, I can show you what is officially my first fanart of 2014! For this year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema I chose a film that on reviewing turned out to be even more crude than I remembered *grins* But not only does the story fit the script I imagined for my favorite SPN guys, more importantly it has an incredible and very inspirational setdesign. I hereby pay tribute to the marvelous puppet action movie "Team America: World Police". Scenes I created are loosely based on the original story, but are mostly a funky backdrop for my paper creations. May I present:

BannerJ3-TeamTexas 600

Title: Team Texas: Protecting Y'all
Medium: Photoshop and Papercuttings
Film: Team America: World Police (2004)
Pairing: Jensen/Jared; a bit of Jared/JDM (no cheating;)
Rating: R for suggested BJ (no visible nakedness)
Warnings/Enticements: see descriptions above!
Note: Art comes with a DIY paperpuppetplay-set!

Concept: Brilliant musical actor Jared Padalecki is recruited by Jeffrey Dean Morgan to join Team Texas, a government agency assigned to protect the country against attacks. His acting skills are needed to infiltrate a group of terrorists. Dedicated agent Jensen Ackles doesn't think the actor is up for the task, but as they work the case together, he realizes Padalecki is not the shallow Broadwaystar he imagined.

While I'm taking a quick snack break from my photoshoot for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema, I'd like to spread the word that there are still lots of tempting summaries for grabs at the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. So if you are feeling artsy: GO CLAIM!

I've spent hours setting up the stage for my artwork, only figuring out the best way to take photos in the previous fifteen minutes. Seriously: next time I'm hiring an assistent to hold stuff up. You can apply in the comments;)

Also: after enjoying the conversations on Twitter, I was wondering if people would be interested to come over if I organized a Eurovision watchparty next year? For those outside of Europe: Eurovision is a huge songcontest between all the nations with all kinds of music varying from emo-ballads to silly dancesongs. When it comes to giving each other points it can get very intense and serious, but mostly it's a big party. So if you were planning a trip, see if you can make it to the Netherlands in May 2015?
(ABBA icon, because they won in 1974, just beating my country, I'm not bitter)

For this year's Cinema Challenge I wanted to try a couple of new things. Besides adding a lady to my usual mix of men, I explored papercutting a little more; how much further could I reduce shapes? On top of that I was intrigued by the sudden popularity of melted crayons and I meant to do something with that to contrast the tight lines of the papercutting. I wasn't too impressed by the rather wasteful blowdrying technique, so instead I played with a hot iron... Haha! (I wasn't using it for my clothes anyway;)

May I present to you: three minimal portraits and a lot of artsy fiddling:

Title: Imaginary Infatuations
Made for: [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema 2013
Movie Prompt: Les Amours Imaginaires (2010, English title: Heartbeats)
Medium: Papercutting, crayons, bit of Photoshopping.
Rating: G for art; R for concept I suppose
Pairing: polyamorous ~ Jensen/Jeff; Danneel/Jeff; Jensen & Danneel are BFFs
Concept: At a party best friends Jensen and Danneel meet Jeff, whose charisma overwhelms them both. They try to find out who he fancies most, but deny their crush on him to each other. At every other chance they flirt with Jeff while secretly sabotaging the other one's efforts. Slowly their lifelong friendship starts to crumble.

All the artwork: paper portraits & poetry! )

After doing some hands-on arts & crafts for Gishwhes, I realized how much I had missed creating things from scratch; so when it was time for this year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema challenge, I decided to not do one of my usual digital designs. I found an excellent film that inspired me to finally grab those packets of clay I had lying around. Title: Sam & Dean and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] beelikej
Medium: Clay, paint, fabric! (and a bit of Photoshopping;)
Movie Prompt: Wallace & Gromit (in TCofWR)
Genre: Casefile, no romance
Rating: G
Concept: The Winchester brothers are taking a break from hunting and are laying low in small town USA, where the people are getting ready for the annual Giant Vegetable Competition. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, a mysterious, ravaging "beast" begins attacking the town's sacred vegetable gardens! Sam goes into research mode and finds out someone may be infected with the CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT. In the meantime Dean has a sudden craving for carrot-cake...

Title: It's like you escaped from a Hallmark card or something
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] beelikej
Movie Prompt: Enchanted
Pairing: Jensen/Jared (friendship or more;)
Rating: G
Summary: Fairytale Prince Jared ends up in the real world apartment of divorce lawyer Jensen, who doesn't believe there is such a thing as happily ever after.
Notes: Of course I couldn't resist manipulating the original filmposter and making a J2 banner out of it, but I was inspired by the film's mix of animation and the real world to also try something completely different this time:)

I experimented with a more creative way than simply fiddling with photos* and made sort of a collage using different techniques. Behind the cut not only the final result, but also an impression of the sketching process! )

As a bonus I'm posting a wallpaper version of the banner and a film-poster with Mike Rosenbaum as the evil Queen.
