After I decided to step away from one of my favorite art challenges, I felt a little lost. So I was very happy with the new bimonthly [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema project! Especially since it offers a short turn-around and posting time, which is just the kind of schedule my muse and I need. When the chosen genre for the first round was revealed to be The eighties I knew there would be filmprompts to my liking. Those were my teen-years, people, tons of films with fond memories:)

My goal was to play in Photoshop (if you can't see what I did, I did it right;) and not to overthink things. I ended up fiddling in Illustrator as well, if only because I'm more familiar with it. I did not succeed in the 'less is more' look I was aiming for, but the guys were at least a nice distraction from the mess that is real life right now. I hope they offer you the same:)

May I present:

Title: Project InnerSpace
Medium: Photoshop and Illustrator
Movie Prompt: Innerspace (1987)
Pairing: Jensen/Jeff with a hint of Jensen/Jared
Rating: G!

Concept: After one drunken display too many, cocky lieutenant Jeff "JD" Morgan is kicked out of the army and his long time partner, journalist Jensen Ackles, breaks up with him. JD signs up to be the pilot of a secret science project. He will be miniaturized to be injected in a rabbit to do research from the inside! Just as the experiment is on its way, the lab is attacked. The projectleader manages to escape with the syringe and during the chase mini-Jeff is accidently injected in the body of passerby Jared Padalecki...

Posters
No fancy paperpuppets this time*, only character poster designs of my favorite SPN guys.
(Click image to zoom - the pink outline is to make the images stand out in my black LJ background;)
I tried to give each poster the feel of the character's experience in the film: the hero, the love interest or the comedy side-kick. You decide who's who!

BONUS
The posters above were initially much more elaborate and included manipulated scenes to illustrate the story. These were discarded in favor of cleaner portraits:

:)

Credits
Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 for prompting the film (one of the rules is that you can't pick your own prompts, but I'd love to see what you would have done with this;) and giving me a reason to watch this classic again.
Kudos to Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan and Martin Short, who play the original characters in Innerspace, they are such fun!

Source post to follow (I know y'all only check if I hide porn there*, but I still need to write it for my own conscience;)

As always, comments are love (possibly not literally, but feel free to express confusion or dislike, those responses are welcome too!).

Thank you:) I had a couple of freaked out Jareds to choose from, I just loved the colour of his eyes in this one A LOT.

Love this!! This is so cool--Jared's expression combined with the tagline and that Jared shape is priceless! :D

:-) Thank you. Jared's floppy hair is always the most recognizable part of his silhouette, but I also tried to get his shoulder-waist ratio right;)

such nice clean designs, and though I'm ignorant of exactly how you conveyed it, there is a definite 80s movie feel that I love. These *look* fun:)

I would not have come up with anything even half as creative as you did. :)

Magnificent, bb! You've managed to tell the entire story . . . without "telling" anything at all. ;) I adore the poster layout, the photos (Jeff in a flight-suit! Jared's expression!), the font you chose, and most of all, that delightfully perky hypodermic and its "cargo."

THIS IS WONDERFUL! *applause*

Ahw, thank you. I felt a little limited by choosing for photos as a base though. You might have been able to capture that towel scene from the morning after....

Deciding on a font was harder than I thought. I tried to make the designs feel as spacey as possible and played with the shape of the syringe and Jeff's flyingmachinge so the image could be interpreted in different ways.
Jeff's expression is my favorite; that smug smile, hngh.

Was that film really called Innerspace? If anyone had asked me if I had ever watched innerspace, I would have said no. But I know I've seen this!

Love the pictures you have chosen - especially JDM and Jared! :-)

Yes it was! The title can indeed throw you off if you focus on the space part;) It was more of a farce than I remembered -especially Martin Short is a bit too over the top for me-, but still a lot of fun. It didn't feel aged at all.

Jensen was the hardest choice because a journalist looks just like a regular guy;) I couldn't resist Jeff's smirk, I even have a couple of those in my collection with the same expression. I also had a lot of wacky Jareds to choose from, but I really liked how his eyes looked in this one. (And it only required minimum photoshopping;)

Thank you for organizing this new challenge! Love that the short turn around forced me to think fast. I'm very happy to hear the result did not disappoint a fan of the film. It was great to have an excuse to buy and rewatch Innerspace:)

Do iiiiiiiiiiit. I thoroughly enjoyed it all over again and disregarding some minor details, it has not aged at all! Very happy you approve of the casting; I already had these roles in mind based on seeing the film years ago and then when I rewatched to prepare for the challenge, I could not imagine it any other way *grins*

Oh my gosh!!! I love the film version and I love your version so very much!! I am now running the movie in my head with how you've set it up with your lovely posters!

You do such a good job telling the story with your art. I love the cockiness that comes through on Jeff's poster. And Jensen's and Jared's face on each of theirs is so perfect!!

And the bonus! Eeeeeee! I was so excited to see that, too! Love, love, love that pic of Jeff! And Jared in that car and J2 holding the x-ray! Soooooo much fun!!

You, my dear, are brilliant and fun and awesome!!!! ♥

*beams* I rewatched the film to jog my memory and for inspiration and immediately filled in the parts with J3;) I'm thrilled that you can now see it that way too.

That bedroom shoot of Jeff is all kinds of oomph.

Thank you bb, for making my day with this comment:)
