The second summary I claimed for the 2019
spn_j2_bigbang lured me in with mermaid Gen, merman Jared and sailor Jensen, how could I resist that delicious combo? I got up in the middle of the night to grab it, haha!
Don't be scared off by the special sexy times, it's a wonderful story full of world building and merfolk history:) If underwater shenanigans are exactly what you want; I made some paperporn to go with the fic... (and for all images goes: click to zoom *grins*)

Title: Not Fit To Live On Land
Author: SueDeeNimh
Artist:
beelikej
Art Rating: PG (paperpeen Behind the Scenes) | Medium: Papercutting
Fic Rating: NC17 | Pairing: Jensen/Genevieve/Jared [RPF AU] | Word count: ~24k [AO3]
Warnings/Enticements: Dubious Consent, Non-Consensual Body Modification, Oviposition, Eggpreg, Non-Human Genitalia
Summary: Legend says mermaids lure sailors to their doom, but what do they want with them, anyway? Hapless sailor Jensen is about to find out the hard way. Gen and Jared are half cold-blooded fish, and they need a warm-blooded human's help for their offspring to survive, but unless the three of them learn to speak each others' languages, it's going to be a rough ride. Can Jensen bring himself to let love in—literally?

POSTER:

The poster can be folded in several ways to show different parts of the story:

Mermaid Gen flips around to save sailor Jensen:)

Taking care of Jensen <3

Cutting the characters

First sketch and the pencil version for cutting (I refined Gen's tail a little more later)

A rough cut to figure out positions of each character.

For Jared's "dark ocean gray" tail I found the perfect photo with a subtle blue/gray gradient sky.

I love playing with light while cutting textures:)

Because mermaid Gen flips around in the poster, I had to make a front and back!

It's NOT a wig! *grins*
Building & Folding the poster

Figuring out where to position Gen.

Connecting Gen to the blue background, covering the paper with hair.
Now, if you look closely you may discover that I added a plant in a strategic place.

I had originally planned to use coloured paper for the plants, but it seems like the construction will get too heavy and I decide to try pencils instead (then I would still have the option to cover it with paper if needed).

I like the look of the pencil colouring, so I'm done! Time for some dramatic close ups:)

Step by Step folding

Tadaah!
Sexy times!
With bonus post-credit Behind the Scenes PEEN;)

Thank you, dear "Sue", for writing a fic with such intriguing merfolk and their truely fascinating interaction with the human world.

Date: 2019-07-21 01:09 am (UTC)1. I know you explained how it was going to be foldable in your draft, and when I saw the final result I STILL DID NOT UNDERSTAND, I was like, oh, it's more like a collage, and it took actually seeing it unfold in this post to get it? SO AWESOME.
2. AHAHAHA the fish on the dinner plate! That is the perfect centerpiece to the composition. I don't know why? But I love that fish.
3. Mermaid Gen is flipping gorgeous? Both sides of her! I love the wrist bangles and the pouch and the hair and the color contrasts and the shape of her, she's so sinuous and graceful!
4. It's so clever the way the ropes aren't part of the picture anymore once they're happily ensconced in the underwater greenhouse! I ADMIRE YOU GREATLY.
5. Yay I love my dividers, they are just the thing! And the chapter headers, I am so enamored of the way you found different parts to emphasize (also HOMG chapter 3 has never not failed to make me smile, EVERY DANG TIME I LOOK AT IT)
6. The blue-gray gradient of the tail is so subtle but it's perfect! And the light shining through the scale-texture, that's really lovely, I think that might be one of my favorite parts. It just looks magical. ♥
7. *snorfle*
8. It's so cool looking at the two pictures on the left where you're coloring the plants--it's a composition that works like that, and looks so three-dimensional, like that's an actual space they're inhabiting. I love that.
9. The whole scene is so layered and well put together! There's a lot going on but it all works.
10. SEXY TIMES! I love Gen dragging Jensen this way and that, having her wicked way with him! ALSO: BUTTOCKS. ♥
11. JARED, what are you doing to him? ALL THE THINGS. AHAHAHA!
12. PEEN. Bonus pop-up peen! Jensen's hands covering his stiffy, I...I cannot...*shines heart-eyes at you*
Thank YOU for being such a treat to work with and knowing what you were doing so well, it definitely made it a really smooth experience for my first big bang even as I got a little overwhelmed by the size of it! Your taking on the masterpost was a huge help and your being willing to wake up in the middle of the night for me (SORRY) was, wow, VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. I'm so glad we were able to do this! ♥ ♥ ♥

Re: Partner squee
Date: 2019-07-21 04:10 pm (UTC)The 3D effect is hard to capture, I'm glad to know it comes across in the WIP photos and it makes the folding thing clearer;)
I'm thrilled that you mention the ropes trick, because in my first set up it drove me nuts that they were visible, so I was very relieved when I found a solution to hide both of them and make the scene into a new part of the story \o/
As for the dividers, I struggled most with the photography of Chapter 2, because those damn bowlegs just didn't want to walk after he had been lying down. Chapter 3 was a LOT of fun to create, just like the rest of the sexy scenes, hee. ALL THE THINGS.
No matter how Jensen tried to cover up, I just couldn't resist a peek-a-boo peen;)
Thank you for your intricate story, I will make time soon to reread because I loved it a lot. I was as fascinated as Jensen with discovering exactly how everything under water came to be and I learned a LOT from your detailed descriptions of merfolk/human sex :-p
It was my pleasure to contribute to your first BigBang experience. *twirls you*
