Thoughts are running through my head
Sep. 17th, 2008 10:37 amI'm reading The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer at the moment and to my surprise it is not making as big an impact as I had anticipated. I had expected to be angrier, just when I read The Whole Woman years ago and you may remember how emotional I got about that article by Hofstadter on the issue of sexism. I only feel a little numb, mostly because it feels things haven't changed that much in the twenty (thirty...) years since the book was first published. But it may also be because in English the book is a bit too overwhelmingly scientific to get into. I read The Whole Woman in Dutch.
I do have to laugh about the subject of penis-envy though. What a silly notion to think women are feeling incomplete because of the lack of dick. If anything I have flat chest-envy. Don't get me wrong; when it comes to shape and size my boobs are perfect and fit my body, but if I could have had a hand in the design I wouldn't have bothered.
As soon as I'm done with the CSI-award business I plan to post a more in depth analysis on the book and its subject. Prepare to comment;)
