Date: 2013-12-02 10:07 pm (UTC)Here are some tricks I've learned through the years:
1. don't go for the cheapest brand! I made that mistake the time before this touch up and I spent the next six weeks ruining towels because the dye just kept bleeding. I'm not usually one to go for name brands, but this is one exeption. I tried natural henna in the past, but found it much more complicated to apply (plus it smells funky;)
2. you will get dye on your face (and arms and possibly other places) Don't panic, it will come off with a bit of water and soap. To make that easier, rub on some cream before getting started;
3. I always wear a top that's already ruined (it looks like I've been out to kill;) and use an old towel.
4. I keep a plastic hairclip nearby to put my hair up while the dye is setting. Stay away from furniture!
5. My method: get as naked as possible (usually down to underwear and that special hair-dying top;), apply dye over sink (I recommend clearing out the bathrug and all other items you don't want stains on!), put hair up, set timer. Watch tv, catch up online or treat myself to a footbath while waiting. To remove dye, I get into the shower and follow instructions for rinsing and aftercare.
I'm not a fan of the conditioner that's usually in the package, I often do use it, but I wash my hair with my own shampoo at the end. I dye it in the evening, so I go to bed with toweldry hair* but if that's not your thing or you can't wait to see the result, I guess you can blowdry it - I never do that, so I don't have any experience with it.
I love waking up with a new colour and surprising myself in the morning;)
(*a towel on the pillow is recommended, but I didn't need it with my latest colouring (clearly a very good dye, see image; the colour came pretty damn close to the package as well:)
Very important, especially before first time: do the allergy test that is suggested on the package.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions!
It always makes me very happy to know friends looked at -and liked- the photos, thank you:)
