beelikej: (roadtrip)

It took me a couple of days to get used to not going to work, but slowly I'm getting the hang of filling my days at home. I've started exercising and have also picked up arting again! More about that tomorrow, first I'm posting an extra long picspam of the Texas leg of our roadtrip to make up for the wait after the previous set *grins*

There was no sleeping in after our movie night at the Drive In in Missouri; we had a long drive ahead of us through Oklahoma, down to Tyler, Texas to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] tmn1966's cousins. Of course we included a little sightseeing along the way, after all, we were still on Route 66!

Too early for the motel to serve breakfast, so we had a little nibble in the room and got on the road at 6 a.m. Maybe it was because it was so early, but we thought the name of this roadside snackplace was very funny *innocent face*

IMG_0065-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0066-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
Eery fog next to the road. Maybe this was the "smoke" that Oklahoma kept warning us about? "Don't drive into the smoke". Ehm, okay.

IMG_0067-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0068-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
Random bridges, because I love bridges:)

IMG_0069-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0076-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
Yay! We found it around 07:15 am, so there was nobody else around: The Blue Whale of Catoosa, OK, isn't it cool? Instagram ussie of me, T and the Whale:)

IMG_0083-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0087-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
Old route 66 is now Interstate 44 in Oklahoma, but it doesn't look like they maintained it for modern day traffic. It's full of cracks and potholes for that nostalgic feel;)

IMG_0091-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0092-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
Another cool bridge and.... HELLO TEXAS!

IMG_0095-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0096-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
The interstate runs through Sulphur Springs, a quaint little town.

IMG_0100-0808 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0104-0808 Roadtrip.jpg
I'm just gonna assume this thing is pumping up oil, it's the Texan thing to do, yes?
We met up with [livejournal.com profile] tmn1966 family at a Mexican restaurant for a late lunch with enchiladas, rice and beansauce:) After that we started our journey back up to Dallas.

Our motel for the next two nights; our room is one story up; T's cousin had brought us yellow roses from Tyler, they made our room smell really nice:)

I hummed the themetune of Dallas when I saw this skyline;) The roads into town looked like rollercoasters!

IMG_0118-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0120-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Before we go sightseeing in the big city, we're doing laundry in Richardson (randomly picked laundromat location, shush)

IMG_0124-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0125-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
It took us an extra round of driving around Dallas city centre, but we found a great parking spot, only a block away from Elmstreet and the Bookdepository from where Lee Harvey Oswald alledgedly shot president John F. Kennedy (the square window up on the right corner) - Now the Sixth Floor Museum. (Americans count the ground level as first floor)

IMG_0132-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0138-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
View on the grassy knoll and the road Kennedy was driving on. On the right the Dallas courthouse.

IMG_0139-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0142-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
We are going on a trolleytour with Big D Fun Tours... (I could not make this up, who came up with that name?)
Reunion tower and its GeO-Deck look out over the skyscrapers.

IMG_0157-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0163-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Great views from the trolley that's taking us all around with an excellent driver/tourguide. Look at that magnificent Continental Bridge. I also love the design of the Perot Nature & Science Museum *hearteyes*

IMG_0165-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0171-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Kick-ass bike in front of The House Of Blues, or was it the HardRock Cafe? They're close to each other;)
The Majestic is the last remnant of Theater Row.

IMG_0177-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0180-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
I just love the Pegasus (logo) on top of the Magnolia Petroleum Building and -hey!- look what we found: the other eye from that sculpturepark in St. Louis we visited earlier this week!

IMG_0184-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0199-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Massive bronze sculpture of a stampede at Pioneer Plaza, very awesome. (click to zoom!)
The replica of the first house in Dallas was pointed out on the tour and turned out to be right across from our parkinglot, so I could take an up close look before we got back on the road:)

Check out the rollercoaster roads again (all the kudos to T for driving us through that nervewracking traffic)
We made a quick stop at Fun to Sew for [livejournal.com profile] zubeneschamali, but the shop was closed on Sundays. It was at that moment T realized she hadn't written down the address of our motel (as used as we were to moving on after the night) and we had a bit of a giggle and freak out before she simply traced our steps, so to speak and got us on the right road. YAY!

We had a bit of a rest and freshed up for the main goal of our trip: dining at that restaurant which plays an important part in our 2011 RB-collab story Fool Hearted Man. (Jeff/Jensen, NC17;)

IMG_0215-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0218-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Fort Worth, here we come! T. had wisely made reservations at Tillman’s Roadhouse, we were very giddy *g*

IMG_0219-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0220-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Haha, check out the door handles and look at that wall. \o/

IMG_0223-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0226-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
Mac and cheese, the fancy restaurant edition and THE BEST RIBS I'VE EVER HAD *rubs belly* For dessert we had to have the tableside s'mores; all ingredients hand made (omnomnom) and our own tiny firepot to roast our marshmellows (almond and cotton candy flavor, iirc)

WE HAD SUCH FUN :-D

IMG_0236-0908 Roadtrip.jpg IMG_0241-0908 Roadtrip.jpg
*snorts* The gun theme continued in the bathroom (also: cool use of logo!).
Look at our happy fangirl faces. We sure had sweet Jeff/Jensen dreams that night;)

Next up: back up North through Oklahoma again to... Kansas! (--> part 5!)

part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois | part 3: Missouri, Route 66
