Nearing the end of these cruise posts; this is the penultimate travelreport and the final stop in Norway: Kristiansand, at the southcoast of the country. No more fjords, but a lovely seaside town, that I enjoyed exploring, especially the waterfront. I discovered cool sculptures, a fort and old wooden houses. However, my fondest memory is of my visit to the supermarket, that was near a highschool where students apparently just had a break to go snackshopping and it was as if I had walked into an episode of (web)series Skam, heehee! Enjoy the walk:)
Day 8: 6th stop - Kristiansand

Around seven o'clock in the morning the ship arrives at land again.

An hour later, it docks in Kristansand and the elevator to the restaurant tells me it's Wednesday (September 7th;)
My last breakfast in buffetrestaurant Windjammer (tomorrow I'm going a la cart;) - a biscuit with gravy, sausages, scrambled eggs, a hash brown (of course;) and a selection of different types of melon, omnomnom.

On my way back to my cabin I'm enjoying the view out on deck and art inside: Bright Sail by John Harris (GBR, 1948)

Another artwork: Shelter, a woodcut print by Kai Rittum (NOR, 1962)
A look down to the center of the ship (I'm standing in between the elevators:)

Around ten o'clock I walk off the ship, look at it, my precious beauty.

Haha, they built a welcome arch with a massive moose on it. In front sits a statue by Finn Eriksen of Vilhelm Krag (18711933) who was a Norwegian poet born in Kristiansand.
Check out the reflection of 'my' cruiseship in the windows of Kilden Performing Arts Centre, the theater and concert hall on of Kristiansand; it houses Kilden Teater, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and Opera Sør.

After leaving the industrial harbourk the first area of Kristiansand I arrive at is the Fiskebrygga (fishmarket) with wood sculpture Fiskemaren by Trygve Govertsen.
Yay, found a manhole cover with the Kristiansand Domkirke on it.

I follow the promenade along the marina; near the water you can see a sculpture To rådyr by Skule Waksvik and on the landside I pass by statue Gutten og Bjørnen (Lek) by Arne Nikolai Vigeland (1967).

Looking out over Kristiansand Beach were these adorable little horses and turtles (unfortunately someone drew ugly eyes on them, why? Hrmpf) I haven't been able to find out who made them.
The message from the little pirate on the side of the garbage encourages Kristiansanders and visitors to throw trash in the bin; Se det! Gjør som de som var her før dae brug denne dunken til søpla! Kast O'Hoi!

Very cool bicycle parking design and a slightly different manhole cover:)

On my way to Christiansholm I walke through Otterdalsparken, this square construction is the Nupen Fountain by Kjell Arne Nupen, unfortunately it's not on; I've seen images how impressive the waterfall inside is when it's running. Now you can see Christiansholm Festning through it in the distance:)

Camilla Collett (1813-1895), a Norwegian author, often referred to as the first Norwegian feminist, statue by Ingemund Berulvson (1964) - Tro er man kun naar man er det mod sig selv
Christiansholm Festning behind the sunflowers:)

Entrance to Christiansholm Festning and a canon; can you spot the cruiseship in the distance?

From Christiansholm Festning I circle back into town, after a final look at the marina.

Statue by Aslaug Moi Frøysnes of Polar Explorer, Soldier/Airman, Norwegian-American Bernt Balchen (1899-1973).
Swans!

Glorious streetart on the corner of Kongens gate / Holbergs gate by Sedin Zunic on the side of Kristiansand kulturskole Knuden.
Fun flying pigs in a pedestrian tunnel:)

View of Otra riverside, where I sat down for a chocolatemilk with a bun (bought in the aforementioned supermarket, I was still in the Skam universe:)

Posebyen, the old town, with the typical low rise wooden houses (some have survived the big fire of 1892)

AFter looking at all the lovely colourful houses in Posebyen, I climbed the viewpoint on the edge of the Beneheia park, pfff.

Kristiansand IMG_5901:
Then I stumbled back down and followed the Kirkegata to the Cathedral. In the back yard there's a Minneskulpturen, a memorial for Utøya 22. juli 2011 by Nico Widerberg (that you can find in more Norwegian towns).

I walked across the townsquare, looked inside the cathedral and walked around it.

Kristiansand Domkirke (Cathedral) - Neo-Gothic cruciform design built between 1880 and 1885, design by architect Henrik Thrap-Meyer.

Look at the glorious entrance with columns for McDonald's :-D - this is Markensgate, the main shopping street.
On my way back to the harbour I discover this awesome streetart: Untitled by Liqen (on the wall of Kristiansand Teater, Vestre Strandgate 4)

Impressive bronse sculpture Seilskuteskipperen by Nicolai Marius (Nic) Schiøll
I have walked a big circle and am now back at Fiskebrygga; up in the attic of the Fiskebasare there is another wood sculpture by Trygve Govertsen: Slideren med tønner .

Hey, the other side of the purple moose features a ominous troll! Back on the ship, my loot (spent my last few kroner on this:) - a crisps/chocolate combo and two small jars of Norwegian jams (tyttebaer/lingonberry and molter/cloudberry).

A late lunch: a wrap, prawn crackers, a sausage, quiche, bread, melon and custard with berry juice.
I take two freshly baked cookies back to my cabin and read on the balcony and in bed until dinner time.

I so love my balcony *happy sigh*

Dinner time! Guess my choices:) Of course I am welcomed with a full bread basket and a cheeseplate, bless.

Starter: Minestrone (Italian soup) and Main Course: Roasted Beef Tenderloin, mmmm.

Dessert: Baked Alaska.
I love this funky carpet <3

Glass art in the stairway: Fluidity by Miguel Chevalier (1959)
Snuggling in my couch nest to read until bedtime, goodnight!
To be continued; one final post to go:)
