With love from Holland*
Apr. 8th, 2013 11:07 pmLast week I posted pictures of windmills and accidently set some people up for disappointment, because they had expected something more traditional from the Netherlands. I honestly was not aware of that misunderstanding, since over here it's common to call old fashioned wooden windmills simply "mills".
I've done some research and discovered those modern energy collecting windmills are actually called wind turbines.
I also learned there are 'only' about 1200 traditional windmills left in The Netherlands, over 90% are considered monuments. On my way to work I travel past two of those. Below are some photos I took from the bus yesterday and today:)
( Plus a bonus black & white picture of me with wooden shoes... )
Hope y'all enjoyed this touristy trip :-p
*One final lesson: my country is often called Holland, but this is merely the biggest province (plus it's easier to yell at international sportsmatches;). The Kingdom of the Netherlands also includes some overseas bits of land from colonial times; the part that's on the top left hand corner of mainland Europe is called The Netherlands. (we say 'Nederland', meaning low land)
Thus endeth the lesson and the tour.
