Thank you
fred_bear for bringing this issue to my attention. I'll add my comments later. For now I'm just spreading the word:
Honour killings and attitudes to women in general
:'-(
ETA: Even after having some time to think about the article I don't know quite what to say about it. I had not heard about the "honor killing" Joss is talking about and I did not feel the need to check up on the story, because there simply have been too many similar stories before this and I'm afraid there will be many more. I'm sorry to say I can't handle them anymore. I get so frustrated because I don't understand what the fuck is going on and I just don't know what to do.
I have the same feeling about his explanation how the world looks upon women, even in so called modern societies. I think he is spot on and it makes me sad. I know he's right when he says: "It’s no longer enough to shake our heads and make concerned grimaces at the news." but at the moment I really feel like giving up on people. By rereading the article I hope to figure out how I can get my faith in humanity back. Joss set the example.

Date: 2007-05-24 06:51 am (UTC)Damn, this really upsets me. We had an honour killing near where I live, last year. They hardly put it on the news.
The Elisha Cuthbert film, however, makes me lose faith in the world and the intelligence of most women in general.

Date: 2007-05-24 07:51 pm (UTC)I didn't know about this particular story and I also don't know what film he is talking about. I was impressed by his very well-written essay on women and I will hopefully get back to it next week, when I'm less hormonal. (I really hate having to say that, but there you have it: I am woman.) I want to explore this subject some more.
