beelikej: (Not adorable)
Am incredibily busy in real life with preparations for the renovations to my apartmentcomplex. This weekend I'm clearing out my attic so they can put in a new floor. I bought a handtruck stair climber, which should come in handy moving the big ass old computer monitors I have stored up in the attic.
So far I've sorted all the empty boxes I had saved of every appliance I bought in the last twenty years (because I never knew if I could use them when I would move again, ahem, I'm really bad a throwing stuff out, okay). So that was a whole bunch of cardboard and plastic bags and styrofoam shapes to separate. Didn't need the hand truck to get all of that down the stairs, although it took me four runs to get everything to my bikeshed. That needs to be emptied out as well, because they will be putting in a new ceiling there, but hopefully I'll have help from my mom and brother next week to get everything out of there and to the city's disposal site.

Anyway, I'm taking a break by sitting down to update my journal with the latest [livejournal.com profile] landofart graphics:) Due to the aforemented preparations I didn't have time to go for maximum points, but I tried to participate whenever I could.

Challenge 10 - Can You See Me?
Unfortunately I had to opt out of this one; I hope it will make an appearance in the next Phase again, because it did sound like fun. You had to create art and only share the basic elements you used (textures, fonts and images), then another member would try to recreate it just by the description of what you made and so on up until a group of five members.
I lacked time to fully commit to this so I used Golden Tickets instead to at least get some points for my team SteamPunk.

Challenge 11 - Mystery Bags of Loot )
beelikej: (Nick's other pants)
There. Am all up to speed with Twitter and just updated the NicknGreg Tumblr. Besides the paperfiddling I did for the QuickyBang (check it out here if you missed it!), I'm still happily playing in the [livejournal.com profile] landofart. Here's my latest bunch of graphics: wallpapers (1920x1080) and a set of Golden Ticket banners. Let me know what you think!

CSI, Supernatural, Pride & Prejudice and more... )

This Land of Art phase is running until May, you can join in any time (and warm up for the next phase)) Ask if you want to know more:)

Am now contemplating picking another fic in the [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang... There is one calling out to me... If no one beats me to it, I will grab it! See what's still available, SPN and RPF artists! Go go go!

J.

Still fiddling with my artwork for the QuickyBang, but so far I'm making more progress in [livejournal.com profile] landofart Here's an update with mylatest graphics, starting with a teaser sigtag I made just for meeeeeeeeeee:

JDM_kablueySIGTAG.gif

That was originally a tumblr gif I made for the fifth challenge, you can see the bigger size below:)
(While Jeff is scrumptious here, this film is really one of the worst I've ever seen and he plays a real jerk. When I watched this with [livejournal.com profile] sillie82 (a long time ago) we managed about twenty minutes before we just started to fast forward to every Jeff scene;) Anyway, on with the artwork:

Challenge 5 - Letter Association )

Challenge 6 - Happy Birthday )

Half a day of work to go until the weekend. I'm so ready for it! How about you?

J.
beelikej: (FelixPunk)
Besides work, this week I've mostly been busy with preparations for the renovation that is planned for my building this year. I had to move stuff out of the way in the downstairs storeroom (where I stall my bicycles) and up in the attic (where I have build a movie theatre) to make space for the electricians to work in next week. (The paper skeleton I build back when I was 'studying' medicine, is now (temporarily?) hanging in my livingroom:)
I also visited the model apartment on the second floor that has already had most of the renovations done, to see what's going to happen and what options I get for my new kitchen.
Part of the plans won't happen unless at least 70% of occupants will agree to the additional renovation proposal. I'll know for sure about the kitchen in April, but they will definitely remove the gas water heater and build a new heating system for water and all the radiators in my apartment. That should be an improvement already, but I really hope I get a new kitchen, solar panels and special double glazing too! Fingers crossed all my neighbours see the value in that as well:)

Now, on to [livejournal.com profile] landofart. Challenge 3 is the long running Hide & Seek, which will return every other week for a new round where you create art to collect points for your favorite themes. This week my votes went to Crime, Superheroes and Period Drama )

Period Drama: 1 P&P Bookmark
03Ch16Ph_HideSeek_BM_PridePredLady.png

I collected a whole bunch of excellent images from Pride and Prejudice, the miniseries from 1995, so you can expect more graphics with those this LoA phase.

Challenge 4 - Wallie the Wallpaper )

Next week I'll be focusing on my [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang artwork. If you are in the mood to play in the Supernatural fandom, there are still fab short fics available to art for in the SUBMIT & CLAIM post (More fics are also welcome!). This round runs all through March & April.

If you are looking for some non fandom / multi fandom fun, you can still join in Land of Art! Phase 16 runs until May with new challenges added every ten days; you can find all info to sign up here. We play in teams, I'm currently in Team Steampunk, there is a point system but it's a friendly competition and you don't have to do every challenge. Feel free to check out my Land of Art tag to see more samples of graphics:)

What challenges or fandom event are you participating in? Any other recommendations?

So happy to be playing in the [livejournal.com profile] landofart again! Here are my graphics for Challenge 1 + 2, they all signature tags (sigtags 300x150) with a twist. We traditionally start each Phase with making our own Sigtags and Icons, which we use to sign our submissions. This time we got to make templates only, and other members could make requests for versions with their name and team on them. A great opportunity to practice with text placement and font combinations:)

I made mirror themed sigtag templates )

These are the text versions I made: )

CHALLENGE 2: Character of LoA
For the second challenge we created sigtags for imaginary characters to be part of our teams:)
I'm in Team Steampunk, and here are my fantasy team mates:

SigTagPh16Ch2_Editor-of-LoA.png SigTagPh16Ch2_Queen-of-LoA.png

SigTagPh16Ch2_CSI-of-LoA.png SigTagPh16Ch2_Labrat-of-LoA.png

It's just a coincidence that it's all sigtags by the way; I could have made icons for the first challenge and most of the time there's a whole bunch of graphics to choose from each challenge. Right now I'm already working on the next two challenges for which I chose gifs, bookmarks and colouring pages!

I've also claimed a fic in the [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang to make art for, so I've got my weekend sorted:)

What do you have planned? Are you going to the virtual SPN Convention? I've got a ticket for the J2 panel this Sunday, can't wait to see these guys again!

J.

P.S. Let me know if you're curious about any of the fonts:)

P.P.S. There are loads of short fics submitted in the QuickyBang, so if you're looking for SPN/RPF inspiration to get creative, come over to claim!

Wahey, first week of the 2021 is done! The Netherlands is still in lockdown, until January 19th at least, when the new COVID measures will be announced. Vaccinations have started; with the current schedule I'm up sometime in April. Fingers crossed everything goes according to plan. I expect the current lockdown will be extended, since the amount of infections is not going down. I don't think my office will open up in the near future anyway, so even if we're getting out of lockdown, I expect I will continue to work from home for the next couple of months.

In my spare time I've been reading loads of books and I got a whole pile of new books for Sinterklaas and my birthday to look forward to. Currently I'm in the middle of Lady Susan by Jane Austin; you can find my reading list on top of my LJ and DW.

As for fandom creativity, it will be interesting to see what Supernatural challenges will continue now that the show has ended. Somer and I handed over the reign of [livejournal.com profile] smpc to new mods, but I will continue to occassionally play there as an artist. I plan to open up a new round of the [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang soon(ish). I should also start brainstorming on my artwork for [livejournal.com profile] spn_meanttobe in February!

Before I do any new arting, I want to properly round up last year, so here's the final bunch of graphic designs I made for [livejournal.com profile] landofart.

First up: three animations for Round 5 of Ph14Ch3 - Hide & Seek:
5HS_OopsJDM_Icon.gif

CSI gifs for Animated )

Ph15Ch09 - A Halloween Contest )

For the last challenge of this Phase we had to make snowmen in three parts, so in the end we could mix them up!
Ph15Ch15 - Frosty the Funny Snowman )

Aaaand that's a wrap for 2020; onwards to more artworks and graphics in the new year!

J.
beelikej: (Steampunk! at the Disco)
Another set of graphic designs for [livejournal.com profile] landofart that I worked on in between fandom challenges in the past month. Points for Phase 15 are still being tallied, so I don't know how my team Steampunk did yet. I'm also still waiting for the votes for the Halloween challenge, I will post the final two sets of Land of Art graphics as soon as those results are in. There was going to be a Christmas challenge, but that got cancelled, so I supposed I have no more excuses left to start getting my Xmas cards* ready!

Colourbars and Bookmarks )

I still have a few Sam & Dean cards left from last year, if you want one, let me know! This year's cards* will be non fandom;)

J.

As votes for Challenge 09 are still being counted, I still can't show the Halloween icons I made for that yet. But I don't want to wait any longer with sharing my latest creations for [livejournal.com profile] landofart. Today I will play the final round of Hide & Seek, and do some other challenges for this week. In between I will be thinking about poems and surprise presents for my family's Sinterklaas celebrations next weekend. It's a busy week for arts & crafts here:) So without any further ado, here's what I made for Challenge 13: Mirror Mirror on the Wall.

The assignment: You will be creating mirror art using one character, or person to represent your idea of 'who is the fairest of them all?' - There was a mirror template provided, but I went looking for alternative images of mirrors and I found the most amazing glass and porselain creations. Enjoy!

More mirrors! )

In case you missed it: earlier this week I posted my second SPN_ReverseBang collaboration: Mischief Candy, a J3 artprompt that resulted in a sweet collab with one of my favorite authors, so it's a big WIP post with fic on top:)

Tomorrow I will reveal my first RB collab, which will be art only (for now)...

Somewhat related, I was wondering about all the platforms that are currently used for fandom, as responses on my traditional LiveJournal artposts are only trickling in this year. Especially Twitter seems to be a popular place to not only promote fanworks but even publish them, which is weird to me, since Tweets are not easily archived to permanently share your works. I also don't quite understand how the 'likes' there are supposed to be interpreted when I tweet a link to my artpost on LJ. Do people mean to say "thanks for the link, I like it, may check it out later" or "checked out the link, looks great, kudos to you" or WHAT? There's a lot more response there than on LJ, but it's most unsatisfying to not know the extend of those likes.
I get that times are moving fast and that people sometimes find it hard to express their thoughts about art, so I doubly appreciate everyone taking the time to leave a comment <3<3

In between moderating and making artworks for the SPN_ReverseBang, I'm also still playing in [livejournal.com profile] landofart. Here's an update from the latest few challenges. (I handed in Golden Tickets for Ch. 8 + 10 so I could skip on creating anything for those, saving valuable time and energy;). I made quite a few animations, I'm putting them behind the cut to not overwhelm the flist. Would love to hear what you think of these though, so come take a look!

Diana Riggs (20 July 1938 – 10 September 2020) & Rutger Hauer (23 January 1944 – 19 July 2019)

I initially wasn't sure if I wanted to participate in that last one, because it was a painful subject, and it turned out to be bittersweet to create these graphics. But it was also a nice way to remember these people <3

I had hoped to share the icons I made for the Halloween Challenge in [livejournal.com profile] landofart, but they had to be submitted anonimously for voting in the community, and that is still going, so I can't show them yet;) Instead, I'm catching up with the latest two rounds of the Hide & Seek Challenge that runs all phase long. In this challenge we get to create different graphics using different techniques or themes. Each design is also a vote for that technique/theme and only the most popular ones move on to the next round. My favorites usually don't survive, but hey, I get to try new techniques every round, haha!

For Round 3: Astronomy, Prop, Animated and a final Chaisoscuro )

Popclaw from the Boys. I can't believe I got this glitch effect to work; I split the original photo in coloured transparant layers, moved them a little off to the side and then added brushed scratches to make it look even more distorted.

I love experimenting in Land of Art a lot:)

I want to make an effort to post my [livejournal.com profile] landofart challenges in order, even though they are not always set up in numerical order in the community. Challenge number 5 was done a while ago and was an individual challenge. For challenge number 4 teams of six people had to work together to create icons for colorbars, which took some time to organize. I joined three other Steampunk teams as a member and put one team together myself.
Now that the team effort for challenge 4 is finally handed in, I'm catching up with posting here again:)

Phase 15 - Challenge 4 - Colorbar Teamwork )

Phase 15 - Challenge 5: Hm that looks interesting
This challenge was about creating billboards, a format I had not used before. Out of the two sizes, I went with the larger 900x400 dimensions. The billboards had to include at least one image, the character name and what show/movie they are from. I decided to go with female characters from The Boys, Grace, Annie, Charlotte & Kimiko )

Would love to hear what you think of these, whether you're watching The Boys or not:)

Had a marvelous mini vacation in a fancy hotel in Haarlem earlier this week. Will put up a picspam or two (or three) later:) First I want to catch up with my [livejournal.com profile] landofart graphic design posts. This is the first round of the Hide & Seek challenge that runs through the whole phase. You create a piece of art based on the theme/technique that you want to vote on and the themes with the most votes will continue on to the next round.

I'll put the bigger pieces behind the cut, have some sigtags as teaser with the chosen theme/technique underneath.

For this Phase [livejournal.com profile] landofart has two teams again to "fight" in the friendly competition to keep everyone motivated:) Together we create Challenge Leader Banners to be used to announce the winner of each Challenge.
We also all make Comment Banners for our mod to accompany the standard comment categories: Questions, Squee or Yay, Team Renaissance, Team Steampunk (in any variation of those teamnames).
For challenge 2 of Phase 15 I made 4 challenge leader banners, and two sets of 4 comment banners.

So I haven't posted since August, but I have been busy on LiveJournal. With Supernatural not ending after all, but keeping fandom in suspense for another few months, I decided to start up a new round of the [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. I have been dealing with the sign-ups, claims and schedule for the past few weeks:) Very happy that all the artworks found authors! Now everyone is busy with their collabs to create awesome fic and art combos to comfort us in November, when we will be in the middle of the final season of Supernatural at last!

After the dust settled in that community, another one of my favorite creative corners opened up again and I've been playing in Phase 15 at [livejournal.com profile] landofart since last week. I will be sharing my graphic designs regularly from now. Here's the first challenge!

Phase 15: Challenge 1 - Tag It
This sigtag/team icon challenge comes with a twist; usually we create sigtags or icons for ourselves, this phase we had to make templates only. Then other land of art members could ask for their username and team to be included in the design. (A sigtag is to be used as a signature banner when you hand in assignments:) I'm in Team SteamPunk this time, but got some requests from Team Renaissance as well, yay!

I made 3 stand alone sigtags and 3 sigtag/icon sets. Below are the templates as well as all the different versions I made for my fellow land of arters. It was a fun experiment in typography:)

Sigtag & Icon Templates

Woohoo, Phase 14 of [livejournal.com profile] landofart is finished, points have been awarded and my team PopArt came in third! (Out of three teams, but *blows raspberries*;) There were a few challenges I didn't create art for: one was a nostalgic look back at old designs (Ch20), another was a quick draw doodle thing (Ch19), and I handed in Golden Tickets for two challenges that I didn't have time for (Ch11+17). But there are still plenty of graphic designs to share: I made filmposters and loads of tumblr graphics, icons and wallpapers! (Click for full size images:)

As I'm working on finishing my SPN_J2_BigBang artworks, here is a set of graphics I made last week for another round in the [livejournal.com profile] landofart challenge Hide & Seek, where you create graphics based on given themes. Each piece you make is a vote for that theme to be included in the next round. I don't really have a prefered winner, so for round 5 I also spread my votes across several themes just so I could make various designs:) Can you guess the themes? I made three Tumblr Graphics and did a colouring page (In black and white, that was harder than I thought!)

This week I've returned to the office to train new employees and it's been physically exhausting as I usually start the day standing during a long presentation and then spend the rest of it walking around answering questions. Most evenings I barely managed to eat a bowl of yoghurt before I fall asleep on the couch. It's been mentally rewarding though; we've selected a great bunch of 'students', none of them have any experience with GIS (Geodata Information Systems) and it's been a joy to teach them all I know:) I also love that I get to cycle to work again!

Having to adjust to the Corona measures is still a bit tricky, as I have to do my explaining from a safe distance and I can't simply grab their mouse to show them what I mean on the screen by doing an example drawing. But I happily wear my funky map-patterned mask for one-on-one talks and I found this lovely berry-scented hand desinfectant that also amuses me.
Now that everybody is settled in, things should calm down a bit. My fellow tutor is on digital stand-by and we plan to have the new people interact with him even more next week to take the biggest pressure off. I still have two major presentations to give, but I'm actually looking forward to those, as I get to talk about a subject I love and I really enjoy sharing knowledge:).

This weekend I will be finishing the final version of the paper story-banner for my first SPN_J2_BigBang artwork of 2020 which will be revealed after the weekend, dundundunnnn. I haven't been able to work on that during this busy work week and I also haven't had time to check up on all the awesomeness that has already been posted in the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. Go give all creators there some love if you can!

I did manage a few creations for Land of Art; creating graphic designs is as relaxing as a lovely hot bubblebath: it's instant pleasure and it clears my mind. I found some gorgeous pics of Jeffrey Dean Morgan/John Winchester to play with (I have a bunch left to fiddle with too, woohoo!). Of course there's also a CSI Tumblr design plus bonus Hannah Gadsby!
These were all made for Hide & Seek, where you make graphics based on given themes. Each piece you make is a vote for that theme to be included in the next round. I spread my votes across three themes: Looking Up / Vintage / Action. Can you tell which is which?

Two Land of Art challenges in this post; I did more the past week(s) but those are up for voting, so I can't share them yet. In between, I've been struggling with my artworks for the SPN_J2_BigBang, that require more hands on arts & crafs and focus, which is really hard to do when my brain is occupied with workstuff. Fortunately I can empty my mind when I do digital graphic designs, so fiddling for Land of Art helps to unwind.

Without further ado, here are my latest creations for [livejournal.com profile] landofart

Challenge 9 - May the 4th Be With You (Part 2)
This is a Star Wars themed challenge; in part 1 (on May the 4th;) all participants offer up bits for inspiration; each one of us handed in a random Star Wars Screencap, a Character and a Color.
In part 2 you get to make different combinations out of all of these; I created icons. (Full disclosure: I did once watch the 6 original films, but I don't remember them well and I don't know that much about StarWars beyond that, as may be obvious from my character combinations, for me it's all about composition;)

Update on life: last week I went back to the office for three days (after working from home since the "Intelligent" Lockdown started in March). I got to assist with job interviews and was responsible for testing candidates, which had to be done in person. Normally we would invite all candidates on one day with multiple people testing them. But with all the social distancing and hygiene rules we had to limit the process to three people a day with just me, switching computers for each candidate (they had to plug in their provided clean keyboard and mouse themselves).
They would first have a half hour interview and then be send to me for a full hour. I would guide them through several tests, starting with satellite images which they had to interpret. Then I'd let them play in the map drawing program for a bit before having them translate some texts from our massive manual (which is in English).
I'm not a people person, but really like one-on-one interactions with people who are interested in what I do:) Some of them got very excited; I had a great time. In the end we hired six people and I will be training them in two weeks time. Until then I'm busy updating our guides and preparing presentations:) We usually teach the three week course in pairs, but the rest of the senior team have hay-fever and they are not allowed in the office, so I will be doing the whole thing by myself. I will have video-chat back up, but it will be intense!

I hope to continue to relax in my spare time with arts & crafts. I've started working on both my SPN_J2_BigBang collabs (have figured out what I want to do, woohoo) and of course there's all the graphics fun in [livejournal.com profile] landofart. Here's what I created this week:
Hide & Seek is a long running challenge within a Land of Art Phase, where you make graphics based on given themes. Each piece you make is a vote for a specific theme to be included in the next round. I liked a lot of themes, so I spread my votes again. This round I chose the following themes: Looking Up / Shapes / Vintage / Yellow / Action and I gave one of those two votes; see if you can figure out which is which;)

I've updated my Masterlist of artsy fiddlings! If you're curious about what I created so far this year, check out ArtMasterList part 2: 2019 and beyond [DW]. Last year my original arts & crafts overview became too long to handle in one post, so if you want to travel further back in time, go to My Artmasterlist 2010-2018 [DW]

My ArtMasterList is all about my fanart and does not include any graphic designs I made for Land of Art, just check the tag if you want to see more of that;)

Here's the latest challenge I handed in to [livejournal.com profile] landofart: 3 sets of comment banners (300x150 pixels) that we use within the community. These have to contain text for the three teams plus options for questions or squee with a free choice of images. I like to create somewhat coherent sets, so I picked themes for myself.
The first one is all about tv-series Sliders; the second set features scenes/photoshoots that made me smile and for the last set I started with Butch Cassidey & the Sundance Kid screencaps and then I got sidetracked by Robert Redfort.
But come on, can you blame me?
