I've decided not to buy biodegradable pads anymore. I really tried, but the texture of these environmentally friendly pads is the same as the huge old fashioned ones they used to provide in hospitals (bought cheap in bulk I suppose) - the women in my family would lovingly refer to wearing those big ol' pads as "walking around with a loaf of bread between your legs"

I'm sorry, nature. There is only so much discomfort I'm willing to suffer for the sake of the environment.

Some people swear by the cup thing. It's resuable.

I've never tried it though.

I am using the cup, but it's not full proof, so I still need some added protection the first two days, hence the (small) biodegradable pads. But since I used to wear 'normal' pads as opposed to the smaller ones I need now, I have still managed to reduce the amount of waste. I just wish they were able to make biodegradable pads that don't fall apart after 30 minutes.

I can definitely recommend the cup, I've been using it for about two years now and it just feels so much cleaner than before (FYI I never used tampons, but I assume the cup is even easier to use/get used to if you have experience with those)

I so need a female icon.

That's how I feel about toilet paper. Nobody should subject themselves to that sandpaper that tries to pass itself off as the real things.

Ooooh, but I like the sandpaper. *g* Plus it's really cheap, while most biodegradable products cost (A LOT) more than the 'regular' versions.

I thought it maybe was a known Dutch expression. No? Besides the shape of a loaf, those things als have the same crumby structure. Grumble.

Sometimes, you just have to go for comfort. I switched to thin, washable cloth pads for my extra protection (I use the cup) on heavy days, and they're awesome, but it's a matter of taste. Some people hate them. I think they're super soft and forget they're even there. I totally couldn't do the environmentally friendly pads, either. Seriously. If you have to change the way you walk, there's a problem with your pad.

I thought about the washable ones, but considering my lack of love for doing laundry, I'm sticking to the disposables (in combination with the cup I only need small size). When it comes to funny walking: don't even get me started on wings.

Yep, comfort is the way to go, because there is already enough stuff I can't ignore, no need to add complications to the situation.
