Well, this was quite a week of highs and lows. I think the good won. The absolute winner is the mail I got yesterday. This is the time of the season when the bill for the central heating is calculated. I will receive a return of 300 euros! Woohoo!
Also: the housing association decided to hire profesional cleaners for the communal area, so next year I won't have topretend to clean the stairs every six weeks anymore. Definitely worth the small raise of the rent (less than 4 euros). Another woohoo:)
More good stuff: I've finished DeathNote 3 and I love this manga more with every part that's published. Very cool drawings, even cooler story about student Light who gets his hands on a DeathNote, the notebook of one of the gods of Death with which he can kill people by writing down their name. He decides to free the world of criminals, but not everyone thinks this is a good idea... Good stuff for a debate. Can't wait for part 4.
I'm re-reading Simon Gray's Fat Chance at the moment: his account of the drama behind the play 'Cell Mates' -which he wrote and directed- with Rik Mayall and Stephen Fry. The latter dissapeared right after the first reviews appeared in the papers in March 1995.
It's a lovingly written book with memories about the early stages of the play, from writing to casting to rehearsing. It's just as intriguing as I remembered. I have such big love for both Stephen and Rik and it's fascinating to read how they worked together. Of course the way it all ended is heartbreaking, but luckily I already know everybody survived. I don't think I could handle the angst otherwise. So far I'm simply in awe again of Stephen Fry. Just reading about how he talks and acts makes me want to reread his books. And I still have Rik's autobiography on my list as well. I might have to leave the internetz if I ever want to get through my stack of books. (Yeah: "Fat Chance", very clever;)
