Back to school [travelblog]
Aug. 7th, 2006 09:56 pmToday I get a new schedule: this week I will start my days with two hours of conversation with Maria Mena, then two hours of grammar with Omayra. Both classes are one on one and I get a lot of homework. Maria Mena also slips in some grammar-tutoring, while I again make a deal with Omayra to focus on conversation as practice for my week of traveling.
I'm alone with Rosa for lunch and besides the grains/potatoe/garlic-soup she serves a traditional dish from Quito: a cold sause with popcorn. She asks if I like it and -a bit nervously- I tell her that it's not my favorite flavour, but I think it tastes quite interesting. To my relieve she is not offended and even laughs about the eleborate way I tried to explain in spanish that I didn't really like it. Pfew. *g*.
In the afternoon I allow myself another visit to the internetcafe to check my mail and tell my family about my new adventures. I also have to find some information about traveling, so I figured I have enough good reasons to get behind a computer;-)
Back at Casa de Rosa I have a little siƫsta until Rosa wakes me for diner: more soup plus pasta con ceso and baked banana.
At night Helena and I walk with Joff to town where we say goodbye to him (he's traveling to the Galapagos for a week) and go to the most popular internetcafe in Quito: 'Papayanet'. I avoid the computers (honest) and do my homework while Helene puts her photo's online. I remember why I shouldn't go out to these kinds of tourist-hangouts: too many smokers among the crowd. Thankfully the Papaya-chocolate-shake is perfect, but I'm not going here again: next time I do my homework it will be at home in my own room.
Next day: Salsa!
