Picture post! A trip down memory lane...
Jul. 27th, 2007 06:30 pmI promised
tanisafan some proof for my statement about my brother's experience with photography. He does have a very good eye for composition now, but back in the old days when we went traveling around the world together, he did manage to take some very shitty pictures of his big sister. There's nothing like humiliating yourself on the net, so for your entertainment, I hereby present: pictures from the past (May they serve as a reminder why digital cameras and their check- and delete-buttons are a blessing;)

Date: 2007-07-27 08:00 pm (UTC)No seriously, I love the pics, hee! And hey, everyone has to start somewhere ;). Mostly, I'm very jealous of all the places you've seen and how much fun you're obviously having! And you just got me in the mood to start planning on my year of travelling, whee!

Date: 2007-07-27 08:17 pm (UTC)It was great traveling with the brother -although I don't think we could spend that much time together anymore nowadays-, up until then I had done all my backpack-trips by myself. I had been to the USA twice before and just had to 'show him around' so to speak;) When we got together in Indonesia, he had been working in Australia for a year and had already visited some areas on the islands, so there he showed me around. In 2000 I joined him and Gayleen in Australia for about a week and then we went our seperate ways: they travelled around the coast, I went straight down through the middle.
All of those places were pretty easy to cover by public transport, my favorite way to travel. (FYI: all the countries I visited are posted in my profile)
I really miss planning a trip this summer. Le sigh. Looks like I won't even be able to go to the Efteling :-(
Still: I'm Sirius, so I can be cool while being locked inside:)

Date: 2007-07-28 11:47 am (UTC)I'm currently looking into 'couch surfing', which gives you a list of people on whose couch you can crash for a small fee, which should be even cheaper than hostels.
*runs to your profile* I will definitely be coming to you for advice while planning ;).
Oh noes, no Efteling? What happened to that? You're still going to Amsterdam, right?
Plus, if you're Sirius, you can bitch about being locked inside, it just adds to your charm ;).

Date: 2007-07-28 06:08 pm (UTC)Couch surfing doesn't sound like my cup of tea, I guess you have to be more of a social person to enjoy that, but I can see that it would be fun to travel that way;)
Australia is perfect for public transport, especially if you want to go down the east-coast, but there are plenty of opportunities to get to all the beauty in the desert. I took the Greyhound bus from Darwin to Alice Springs and from there I traveled by train to Adelaide. Awesome trip.
Well, my stiff and painful back still prevents me from sitting down too long, so to travel to either the Efteling or Amsterdam would be hell. Not to mention going on rides. Plus my body isn't coping with walking around either. I went 'shopping' with my mom today, to get paint for the livingroomproject, but I could barely make it to the necessary stores before I had to go home and crash. I was exhausted. I've made an appointment with a physical therapist for Tuesday. I'm hoping for a massage next to the unavoidable excercises. Grumble.
