10 Favorite songs starting with P

I love this music-meme, so I asked
tanisafan for another letter and she gave me a P. I didn't have to think hard about the first song that had to be on the list, it's in the top 3 of my "Favorite songs of all time list". For the rest I checked my record-collection, ehm CD collection and Winamp play-list of course, and soon I had picked ten songs I love to listen to.
1. Mo Better Gold - Personal Saviour
Saw this vid, heard the song and was blown away.
Well you can try to fly over mountains
And you can try to run over sea
But it's easier said than done for someone
To try to get with somebody like me
2. Meat Loaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Light
Ahw: a highschool favorite. Not that we completely understood what the song was about, but we sang along anyway *g*. I particularly liked this because 'you did' sounds exactly like my name, when Americans try to pronounce it properly (ie the Dutch way;). And I never had a girl looking any better than you did and all the kids at school they were wishing they were me that night *g*
3. Lou Reed & BBC ensemble - Perfect Day
I know, I know, I too have a pet peeve about covers, but Lou Reed still has the best lines and this performance with everybody who is anybody in the British musicbizz, is simply awesome.
Just a perfect day,
You made me forget myself.
I thought I was someone else,
Someone good.
4. Green Day - Pulling Teeth.mp3
What can I say? I like the cruel songs and Green Day does 'm best.
Is she ultra-violent?
Is she disturbed?
I better tell her that I love her
Before she does it all over again
Oh god, she's killing me!
5. Blur - Parklife.mp3
Damon is an awesome songwriter. Plus this one has Phil Daniels doing the talking and he was in Quadrophenia, so it gets bonuspoints for the The Who-connection:)
All the people
so many people
They all go hand in hand
Hand in hand through their parklife
6. Turin Brakes - Pain Killer.mp3
They had me at 'my love giving me head'. Oh and I love the vocals.
Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind
7. The Who - Pictures of Lily.mp3
Pete Townshend once said he thought this was the sweetest song he wrote. I think he's right.
Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
8. The Presidents Of The USA - Peaches.mp3
The video has ninjas. Cool. This band rocks!
Movin to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
9. Starlight Mints - Popsickle.mp3
Silly song. Haven't got a clue, but love it;)
Come on and eat your... popsickle
'cause it's so... edible
Come on kids we're having a ball
just lickin on our... Popsickle
10. Something Happens - Parachute.mp3
I usually hate loveydovey songs, but this one gets to me every time.
If the wind don't catch you, I will, I will
If the wind's not there, I'm here
ETA: edited the link to Starlight Mints again. The file should play on everyone's PC now. *rolls eyes*

Date: 2007-08-31 11:29 am (UTC)And yeah, I still prefer the Lou Reed original but I love the BBC version. And it has some amazing artists, like teh Bowie (even though it also has Boyzone, mehe).
Personal Saviour is a brilliant, brilliant song *nod*.
And of course, I snagged the songs I didn't own ;).

Date: 2007-08-31 12:58 pm (UTC)The amount of awesome artists easily outweighs the bad apples;)
It's one of those songs that is very personal to me. I don't just love it, I worship it.
Wow, I actually managed to post songs you didn't have? Please tell me which ones, so I can gloat in hindsight:-p

Date: 2007-08-31 04:07 pm (UTC)But... but... It's Pete Townshend. How can people not know all of his songs? Explain this to me!

Date: 2007-09-01 01:48 pm (UTC)Sure! *puts your name on the list of PT-worshippers* Q: Have you heard golden oldie "A Quick One While He's Away"?. Best fucking mini-rock-opera EVER!

Date: 2007-09-01 07:26 pm (UTC)For you initiation in the PT-cult, here is a special life performance of A Quick One While He's Away by The Who.
Fun fact: the album of the same name was retitled 'A Quick One' in the USA. Also: rumour has it there was a lack of money, so Pete couldn't get the chellos he wanted in the background. You will hear a very creative solution to that problem. Enjoy! And bow down for the genius that is Mr. Townshend:)

Date: 2007-09-02 01:50 pm (UTC)And heh, I love that song. The intro is very cool! And I love how they keep going 'danggggggg, danggggggg, danggggggg'. Very creative indeed, hee! Thanks for sharing and for initiating me ;).

"Cello, cello, cello, cello, cello, cello
Cello, cello, cello, cello, cello, cello
Cello, cello, cello, cello, cello, cello
Cello, cello, cello, cello, cello, cello"

Date: 2007-09-02 03:39 pm (UTC)It's currently on repeat. It's so lovely to be able to sing along, going 'dangggg, dangggg, dangggg! cello, cello, cello, cello' and not feel silly ;)!
