Fridaynight my grandmother had been taken to hospital for a combination of respiratory and circulatory-problems. Saturdaymorning my mom and I went to see her. While we were visiting we helped to move Gran from intensive care to the 'regular' cardiology ward. She still had problems breathing but despite the lack of air, she was chatty as ever. Outside the ICU the hospital has scheduled visiting hours and one of the nurses very subtly handed us a brochure to let us know we had to leave. We were allowed back in the afternoon. After providing Gran with comfy clothes and food plus drinks within reach, we said goodbye. Since Gran had been in awe of us driving all the way just to see her ("this silly old woman") we promised her we'd go to Ikea, just so she wouldn't feel guilty about us making the long trip out to the east.
I bought a huge bookcase Expedit and we had dinner in the Ikea-restaurant (I recommend the Swedish meatballs).
Later that eveningwe my mom managed to carry the bookcase up the stairs to my apartment and the damn box tried to crush her. That scared the hell out of me.
But everybody survived, so all is well for now.

Date: 2008-02-10 11:50 am (UTC)I don't like the Swedish meatballs... or actually, I haven't tasted them in a while. I used not to like them, but since hubby loves meatballs, I've eaten some now and then... And then MIL served us meatballs one day, and I actually like it... not just tolerated it, but liked it! And guess what.. it was made out of chicken/Turkey meet. I always end up liking the ckicken/turkey stuff better... same with hot dogs!
U really had no interrest knowing that, did you? (But I can also tell you that those chicken meatballs taste good in soup and lapskaus (stew))

Date: 2008-02-10 02:18 pm (UTC)I'm off to entertain company (Leen's ex boyfriend is coming over to store his stuff in our garage, since it's empty anyway ;) and then I'm going to take a bikeride and have dinner with the family. Sunny Sundays are teh lovely!
Those bookcases are evil. They look harmless, but they're heavy as all hell.
(Haven't tried the Swedish meatballs yet, but I'm a big fan of the Ikea food. Cheap and plentiful, that's my kind of deal! ;)

Date: 2008-02-10 10:04 pm (UTC)Ah, sunny in the south as well. I'm not to fond of the sun at this time of year; it completely messes with my seasonal rhytm. But I can understand how others enjoy this weather, especially for outdoor-activities, like cycling;)
Oh yes, it was cheap and oh yes, it was a lot. Since I also had a starter (very thin slices of roastbeef that melted on my tongue) I only ordered a 'small' portion of the meatballs, and I still ended up with a plate full of them. Yum.
Also: my mom recommended the chocolate mousse for dessert and told me to get a cone at the register, that you can fill with soft-icecream when you've finished eating. She then shared said icecream with me to mix with the mousse. Oh lord, that was good.

Date: 2008-02-11 08:41 pm (UTC)It's huge! We've only managed to carry the first box up the stairs. Part two is still downstairs in my bicycle-shack. I'm hoping to lure brotherdearest into carrying it to my apartment *g* Then all I have to do is put the monster together...
