I had planned to do a lot of useful things today, but then [livejournal.com profile] sneaky_sena 'someone' on my flist posted about a fic, I had to click... and spent the next two hours reading all 32 chapters of what turned out to still be a WIP. Luckily the author seems to be updating regularly:) So good, people, I recommend you get sucked into this verse as well: J2, PG13 (I know!) and sweet enough to get this cynic to tear up: The Quiet Verse by [livejournal.com profile] not_refined. AU. 16 year old Jared is an amateur pianist who unexpectedly begins to regain his confidence from his teacher’s cousin.

Before I got sucked into the fanfic I managed to do laundry and finish the book I've been struggling with in the past week Meneer Visser's Hellevaart (Mr. Visser's perdition, 1936) by S. Vestdijk. I was going to write a review, but I need some time to recover first.

Other things I managed to get done, despite losing time:
  • I covered up the equipment in the attic; the scaffolding is already up and builders will start work on the roof next week
  • I parked some PatD-artwork in my not-very-aptly-named iconcorner
  • I posted pics of my old and new underwear in my picture corner

  • I didn't enter this week's challenge on [livejournal.com profile] tw_hush, but for those of you who are curious, here are some icons I made earlier:

    1. 2. 3.

    4. 5. 6.

    And a bonus one:

ETA: I kicked George Eads out of my living room. There are only so many crappy interviews I can handle. So you're straight, I get it. But do you have to keep emphasizing how that makes you a 'real man'? I'm very dissapointed, George. (The latest cringeworthy quote comes from this article that was posted by [livejournal.com profile] artistic_sillie. It's in Dutch, but if you want a full translation, just ask)

Translating this made me angry again, the words Mr. Eads chose to express himself really rubbed me the wrong way. Feel free to tell me I'm overreacting.

"Nick Stokes is based on my dad, my hero."
George Eads has been playing the part of forensic scientist on CSI for eight years.

George Coleman Eads III was buried alive in two special episodes of Crime Scene Investigation, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Playing a forensic policeman, he has been shot at by criminals, as an actor he has been bossed around and treated Hollywood style; he even got fired for a while after he asked for a raise. And yet after eight years Eads is still busy portraying the kindhearted forensic scientist Nick Stokes.
Eads (41), born and bred Texan, is not as easy-going as Stokes. "A real man", says the 'red-blooded hetero' about himself, without the least bit of irony. "It took some time to get used to life in Hollywood. You hardly ever meet any real men. It's different in Texas, we are taught from a young age to act like a man. When I was a young boy and I had to cry, my dad would immediately tell me off. Be a man, be a real guy."
Eads' greatgrandfather was an authentic cowboy, his father was a lawyer and later a district attorney. He himself grew up with a gun in his hand. "I learned to handle weapons at a young age, I used to go hunting with my dad. He always told me to use one if needed."
With his Southern drawl, that can't be detected on the successful series, he talks about the moment when he really needed a gun and he got his first lesson on Crime in Daily Life. "I was about fourteen when my dad was working on a murdertrial, in which the leader of the Hell's Angels was accused of killing a couple of teenagers. That guy's brother came round to our house and tried to kick through the door, when my mom and I were at home. My dad kept a .357 Magnum in his nightstand. The guy was almost kicking down the door and my mom wasn't gonna be able to hold on much longer. I ran into my parent's bedroom, got out the gun and aimed at the window. The guy ran and five minutes later our yard was flooded with policecars."
According to Eads, he based Nick Stokes on his own dad. "My hero, my John Wayne; he fought crime with his heart and soul. Nick Stokes is like that; he seems tough, but he has so much compassion for the victims. When I play him, I see my dad."

Texas man talk aside, you do wonder if he has something to prove...and why these articles don't get printed in the US?

Isn't that verse awesome? I really need to put it in my rec list, 'cause I love it so. Also? [livejournal.com profile] not_refined is also the writer of the Jensen Inside-verse. It's currently up to 53 chapters, and still going strong. Have you read that one?

    Nice icons!

Oh George... *shakes head* Seriously man, what the hell?

It's so gorgeous, I love her style. She captures the difference between those guys perfectly. I discovered I prefer Jared's point of view, Jensen's is usually a bit too angsty *g* (That shower-chapter? Wow)
I noticed she has more verses going, if I have to wait for the Quiet-verse to continue I will definitely try another one;)

    Thanks:)

George used to be the king of double entendres *remembers the 'coming out of the closet' interview fondly*. Now he sounds like he has to prove something, either to himself or to TPTB (I fear for Nick)

It's been bookmarked. I will hit it as soon as I finish this 87k College AU GSF monster. Because dude. SO good.

I told you I love the PatD artwork, yes? And ohhh, I especially like the Tosh icon that looks a little like a puzzle piece, it reminds me a little of those movie posters you had in the 1960s, for Hitchcock movies etc!

And hmpf. He's laying it on so thick, I can't even be bothered to care anymore. He's pretty much everything that annoys me about the Texan stereotype, and I hate stereotyping people. Grr.

"College AU GSF"?!? Would that be something I could be interested in?

    You did and thank you:)

Like I said to Silvia; what the fuck is he trying to prove? Also: I fear for Nick. If George is working this hard to sell the straight-image, I wonder what TPTB are planning.

    Can't talk. Keeled by fic.*

(*Meaning, I finished it and will delve into the Quiet Verse shortly!)

Hmm, unless TPTB are actually making Nick gay and George feels like he needs to prove that IT'S JUST A PART HE'S PLAYING, NO REALLY. Which doesn't make me like him any more, but would maybe ensure that I give CSI another go? Really, there's not much that can save it at this point. Besides more Greg.

Ohnoz! I must say the fic is growing on me, but so far I haven't experienced big emotions... If you're up for it, I'm available for analyzing and possible flailing. I'll finish it this afternoon;)

(Can't wait to hear how you feel about baby!J2, that one made me choke up)

Oooh, I like the way you think, because my brain went into the opposite direction; I can't even imagine TPTB being innovative. I will stick by CSI until the end (especially since S8 turned out to be not bad at all when I rewatched it marathonstyle with Sillie), but will definitely bitch (and probably cry) when there is going to be more soap-opera drama to distract from the subtext casefiles. I second the vote for more Greg.

Oh, ffs. That article almost gave me a coronary. He's trying way too fucking hard now. I don't care if he is or he isn't, but all this recent "real man" talk makes me want to give him a boot up the arse.

Yeah. I don't know anymore. It's such an overload of wrong, it makes me wonder what happened to good ol' George? The one that had no issue with this issue? He makes me so very sad these days. Did I say sad? I meant to say mad. Stupid man.
