I bought a bra today.

A small step for womankind, a HUGE step for me. I have been apprehensively checking out shapes and colours in the past months and already decided on a model I could handle. The shoplady was extremely understanding about my issues. She gave me plenty of time to try the contraption, suggested to check how it looked underneath my shirt and answered all my questions patiently. She was also very helpful on picking the right size. Bloody hell, I thought DD was kind of the biggest. As it turns out the most comfortable bra was labeled 90F. (If that number is supposed to be centimeters that would be 36 inches, although the US size on the label says 40 - I don't know)

Of course now the real experiment starts. I got the advice to slowly get used to wearing it and just try it for a couple of hours a day at home at first. *puts on brave face*

So far I must admit the bra gives my body a more recognizable shape and I feel I might be able to wear a T-shirt without covering up my breasts with an additional blouse. Spot the difference!
But I'm hyper-aware of wearing it, which is giving me emo.

First question for those of you with experience: when I sit down the bottom starts curling up. I know I have curves that may cause this, but surely I'm not the only one. Is it normal to have to adjust the bra or do I need to teach myself to sit up straight?

Bras. Yeah. I have my own love/hate thing with them. I hear you.

The fit issue? It sounds as though this particular bra may not be the absolute best for your body. However, if it is the one you are most comfortable with, adjust it at will! (Many women do. Don't let it bother you.) I'm glad you were able to find a nice sales person to guide you through the (very confusing) process. You do look very nice with your enhanced shape. I find for myself that when my breasts are rearranged to be back where they started life I look younger. You may find the same is true for you.

Best wishes.

Thank you for confessing it's not all fun.

I decided to loosen the shoulderstraps and that seemed to help, but I also think I need to stop slouching. Although when I went grocery-shopping yesterday, my back started to ache from (un)consciously tightening my muscles. I hope to be able to relax a little in the future. So far I'm simply too aware of the bra's presence.
But my breasts appear to appreciate the support, so I'm not giving up yet.

Good for you. (I myself found it very hard to adjust to a more "confining" sort of bra when I had to go to an underwire model. So even when you've worn them all your adult life as I have, change is never cool. Stay with it and you and your back will adjust!)

Go you, being all brave. Glad to hear the shoplady was so helpful. Slowly getting used to seems like a good idea. It does look good on you. :3

Well... I do know I sometimes have to adjust my bra a bit halfway through the day, but mostly, I forget I've got it on, so... not much help here.

And now for something completely different... what was it again you wanted to know about the book 'The Timetravelers Wife'? It was about the Dutch version, right? My mom has it, it's called 'De vrouw van de tijdreiziger'.

I felt so accomplished when I walked out the shop \o/. Thanks for the compliments:)

When I think about it, I realize I also adjust my other clothes during the day; I usually have to pull up my pants after sitting down and adjust the belt a bit. I guess I shouldn't be worried if I have to do the same with a bra, but wearing it makes me so conscious of being a woman, as opposed to just being, and it drives me a little nuts.

I wanted to know whether it was a Dutch version, since the bookshop-lady didn't think there was a translation. But apparantly there is! So now I know what to get for my mom's birthday! And I still have plenty of time to track down a copy, yay!
