Freak like me

I have a new intern. She's very young and very excited about the work; she thanked me at the end of the day. I am curious how long that will last;)

I'm kidding; it is nice to finally have an apprentice who shows an actual interest in the job instead of someone who only picked that particular study because they didn't know what else to do and were told (or believed) they could have a career based on their doodling-abilities.

The fact that she is aware of subcultures on the internet (and part of one of those that have conventions...) is an added bonus. She also likes my music (score!) and is very cute.

Her internship lasts until December.

She's into cosplay (she mentioned it on her resume (CV) and I had to look it up; it's roleplay with costumes, mostly anime/manga related). She has photos up on DeviantArt, but we didn't have enough breaktime to take a good look at those or discuss details of the cons she's been to. There is a big convention in London in October, apparently. Huh.

I'm sad to say my enthusiasm has already been replaced by scepticism. I may not be a very easily pleased mentor, but I'll try to at least get hope back next week.

Edited to make clear she is indeed a very nice girl, but it's the work I have to judge her on and so far I'm not impressed. *evaluates own high expectations*
