Contrary to earlier announcements, PotterMore is not able to let everyone in today. (There is an explanation here) If you've read Harry Potter you should definitely register though;) It's so much fun to go through the story again and the extra notes from J.K. Rowling are awesome. If you get in and want to friend me there: I'm PhoenixNight165 and I'm in Hufflepuff:)

Yesterday I finished an epic SPN_J2 BigBang story that made my week so much better and I figured it was time I made a reclist of my favorite BB fics of this year. Unlike last year I didn't make a genre-selection before reading; I put every J2 (and JDM/JA and even Misha/J2) story on my e-reader and gave them all a try. There were a couple that were disappointing* but I've discovered a lot of awesome stories and learned once again that good writing makes any genre enjoyable.

Reclist SPN_J2 BigBang 2011
Pairing is Jared/Jensen, unless otherwise stated. This is only a short selection out of all the great fics I read. If you want my whole BB rec-list, leave a message! (*I can also sent you my no-go list, if you're interested;)

Airborne by [livejournal.com profile] insane_songbird, art by [livejournal.com profile] labluekatt1721
Rating: NC17
Word count: ~120,000
Summary: In a world where three mighty powers are at war, Jared lives a comfortable, if unremarkable, life as a Healer in a little valley as yet untouched by the battles and pillaging. His days get a lot more interesting when a Harper, one of the winged soldiers of the Overlords, literally crashes at his feet.

I was a little intimidated by the size of this story, but every word was worth the read. The author build a beautiful world, by no means perfect but with real people with faults and problems that hinder and inspire them.
Truely a masterpiece. *applauds*
Don't forget to check out the art by [livejournal.com profile] labluekatt1721; I especially loved her pencil sketches.

Hewitched by [livejournal.com profile] lizzywinks, art by [livejournal.com profile] tringic
Rating: R
Word count: 44,500
Summary: (Very loosely based on the movie/TV show Bewitched.) After Jared's last two movies flopped, the only offers he's getting are for TV, the latest to star in a remake of the classic show "Bewitched". When he unknowingly casts a real witch in the role of Samantha, his problems are only just beginning because Jared needs an assistant, and co-star Danneel has a cousin who would be perfect for the job.

As cute as the original tv-series, which you do not need knowledge of to read (I've only seen bits and pieces and was mostly only aware of the idea of the show;) Jared is a bit of a diva, but it worked for me.

Not Made of Bronze by [livejournal.com profile] pussycatbelle, art by [livejournal.com profile] talulababy

Word count: ~44,000
Summary: Jared Padalecki has lived all his life in his small home town of Prairie Winds, Texas; a place where routine and gossip reign. When all of a sudden strange and deadly occurrences begin to plague the town, they seem to be connected to the spooky house that charming and enigmatic Jensen Ackles recently moved into...

Mind the warnings! This is not for the faint-hearted, but definitely one for people who love horror movies with tons of religious rituals and gruesome imagery.
Not a story I would usualy pick, but as I said: I tried everything and this one made me hold my breath all the way through. Awesome.

Pandora's Box by [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory, art by [livejournal.com profile] yunho
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 96,645
Summary: RPS fusion based on the movie Avatar. Marine Jensen Ackles thinks his life is over when he becomes paralyzed in the course of duty, but when his twin brother is killed everything changes. Jensen decides to take his brother's place in a mission on the distant moon of Pandora. New cutting-edge technology allows Jensen to form a psychic link with an avatar — an artificially-grown body composed of the DNA of both humans and the Na'vi, the aliens native to Pandora— and thus interact directly with the otherwise hostile, if beautiful planet.

Excellent retelling of the story from both human Jensen and Na'vi Jared's point of view. I loved being in both their heads. Since I couldn't remember how the film ended, it was like a new adventure all over. Glorious artwork too.

A Strong Confederate (In My Bold Design) by [livejournal.com profile] obstinatrix, art by [livejournal.com profile] ordinaryink
Pairing: Jared/Jensen/Misha
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 26,000
Summary: When Jensen first meets Jared and Misha, they're all young and thrown together in a sought-after journalistic internship. When the internship ends, a job opportunity takes Misha overseas while Jared and Jensen rise in rank at the news station, but every career success seems accompanied by a crushing personal blow. It isn't until an accident brings Misha home that Jensen sees what's been building between himself and Jared all these years, and why Misha is a fundamental third component.

Not gonna lie: I totally wanted to read this for the promise of a threesome;) I'm so happy I got more depth than just three attractive guys hanging out together. The author build a great universe with amazing backgrounds on all three of them. I loved their conversations and non-verbal communications. I wish I could spend more time with these guys.

Fiddler’s Green by [livejournal.com profile] splashpink, art by [livejournal.com profile] waterofthemoon
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 42,000
Summary: Jared has grown up dreaming of being like the heroes he now plays on the big screen, something not helped by ex marine Jensen who has been there, done that. Then it seems like fate is determined to give Jared the chance at adventure he has always wanted. But he quickly finds that being a hero is a hell of a lot harder than it looks in the movies.

This was like an action-movie with the benefit of actually being inside the head of the characters. Brilliant.

Seek to Know No More by [livejournal.com profile] chiiyo86, art by [livejournal.com profile] mishaganminion
Rating: NC17
Word count: 36,200
Summary: Jensen is a transparent – hard to notice, easy to forget, he’s spent his whole life fading into the background. Jared is a psychometrist – he can read bits and pieces of thoughts and memories from people and objects. They had casual sex a few years ago, and when they meet again Jensen is surprised that Jared remembers him. They have sex again, but Jensen is wary of Jared’s ability and generally not very good at relationships. In the meantime, people with abilities are getting killed, a mysterious journalist visits Jensen and Jared, people are following Jensen, Jared has a vision he can’t explain, and everything becomes very complicated and very dangerous.

I was a little hesitant if I could go along with the transparant thing, but I'm so glad I gave this story a try, because it turned out to be a wonderful concept. The exploration of Jensen's ability was intriguing. I loved that all the characters had more dimensions and the plot was very exciting. Good story!

Aiming to Shoot You Down by [livejournal.com profile] mistyzeo, art by [livejournal.com profile] pretty_patties
Rating: NC-17
Word count: ~33,000
Summary: Officer Jared Padalecki is shot on a routine drug bust gone wrong, and he winds up in the hospital under the care of nurse Jensen Ackles. After he's released Jared never expects to see the nurse again, but he runs into him by chance at a local coffee shop. Their budding romance is an unusual one, checked by Jared's long-term recovery and Jensen's unconventional work schedule, and sometimes it's not easy to find time for one another. Somehow though, through thick and thin, they're determined to make it work.

Not very adventurous, despite the seemingly exciting jobs; the guys are very much men with ordinairy problems of coordinating life. I enjoyed the slow build up of issues and their investment in each other. I especially loved the details of smells, texture, thoughts and feelings during their making out (and more) sessions. I fell madly in love with this universe and awesome cop Jared and nurse Jensen:)
I also recommend the NSFW art and the two short follow up stories. Delicious.

Rewriting Our History by [livejournal.com profile] wolfrider89, art by [livejournal.com profile] ameraleigh
Pairing: Jensen/Jared/Misha
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 39,000
Summary: Twelve years ago, jealousy and a series of misunderstandings tore three friends apart. When serendipity brings them all back to the same town, they are forced to face what happened, put old ghosts to rest, and maybe rewrite their own history to find their way back to each other.

Wonderful story, I loved how we slowly learned what happened in the past that made them lose each other, especially since the memories were how the guys remembered it; without details but simply brushstrokes of their feelings and their interpretations of events. *very deep satisfied sigh*

My Love is Like to Ice, and I to Fire by [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__, art by [livejournal.com profile] dephigravity
Rating: R
Word count: 25,100 words
Summary: In a world where superheroes exist, Jensen and Jared possess opposite abilities: Jensen controls ice, and Jared fire. A crew of villains sends their team into a tailspin.

Marvelous story with many impressive visuals; it felt like I was right inside a superhero-comic. Awesome art too.

I still have some stories left to read, but the BigBang has prevented me from going through my bookpile since July, so I'm gonna save those fics for later in favor of finally opening The Art Of Travel by Alain de Botton that I borrowed from my brother. (I want to be able to return it and have an excuse to visit nephew Ruben;)

I'm definitely glad that they changed from beta servers to regular servers, it hasn't been down for me in 24 hours, WHOA.
I just hope they release CoS soon, but I think they said January :(.

I haven't had time to play recently, looking forward to finally trying to brew a potion (is that how all those people collect so many points? WTH?)
I can't wait to continue to the next book. *can totally be patient*
