On Monday I caught a train to Amsterdam to help brotherdearest move. He and his girlfriend found an apartment together. To not get cluttered from the start, he got rid of a lot of things. Fortunately family and friends got to pick first and I managed to get a lot of awesome stuff. Even before the move I already became the proud owner of a deep fryer, I never had one of those! When brotherdearest came over on the weekend before last, we tried it out *grins*

3353 Frituur BLJ
I was quite surprised by the look of unheated frying-grease. Not very apetizing. But after only a couple of minutes of heating, it became a clear liquid that I recognize from the fast-food restaurant:)

3354 Frituur BLJ
Batch number 1: frozen fries (cut 'grandma style')

3356 Frituur BLJ
So exciting! *bounces*

3357 Frituur BLJ
Five minutes later: tadaah! Wow, that was fast \o/

3358 Frituur BLJ
Batch number two: seasoned curly fries and two croquettes (sp?) Omnomnom.

3359 Frituur BLJ
See, how clear the grease still is? Is it called grease, even?

3360 Frituur BLJ
Final batch: a selection of cheesy and meaty snacks (aka party snacks, woohoo)

3361 Frituur BLJ
See: didn't forget about vegetables: serving all the fried goodness with peas and carrots. Delicious!

Wasn't that fascinating? :-p

I made more food-photos at Easter; I bought myself a ready-made Pavlova bottom and decorated it with all things strawberry....

3390 Paastaart BLJ
Meringue pavlova bottom, strawberry jam (single servings), chocolate easter eggs (from the breadbasket I got from work) and fresh Dutch strawberries

3391 Paastaart BLJ
Oh and 'cloud-desert' = strawberry mousse

3392 Paastaart BLJ
On top of this layer of jam I used only one cup of the mousse. Honest.

3395 Paastaart BLJ
Put strawberries on top and cut the chocolate eggs in half to decorate.

3396 Paastaart BLJ
View from the top: cutting the eggs also resulted in chocolate sprinkles, hehehe.

3398 Paastaart BLJ
Cutting the cake was also a little messy, but it still tasted great;)

Mmmmm, strawberries.

Last but not least, have a picture of the windmills I saw from the train on my way to Amsterdam:

3399 Windmolens
The sunlight (what?) was so bright, it was hard to see them at first...

3400 Windmolens
... but there were so many windmills, I had plenty of time to try again.

3401 Windmolens
It almost looks like a setting on another planet, doesn't it?

Okay, I'm done with the pics for now *grins*

I skipped my exercizes Monday morning, but sure made up for that by lifting furniture and walking up and down the stairs at my brother's old and new apartment. Did some stretching too by removing all the curtains and filling the kitchen cabinets \o/ The next day I felt muscles I don't even use when I'm working out with Gilad;)

Rest of the week was filled with work. I read a lot in between. My next post will probably be a bookreview. Mmmmm, books.

Yummy!

We have that style of windmill. I see them here in AZ and along the freeway route into southern CA. Good for generating electricity.

I was...foolishly, I suppose...hoping for WINDMILLS! With the big, wooden fans that turn, creaking, in the wind. ::sigh:: My illusions of Amsterdam being riff with them is shattered.

Ahw, sorry about the windmills being the energy-collecting kind, we have loads of them, as you can see. I don't remember ever seeing one of those old fashioned ones in Amsterdam, but I do have one in my own town (Zwolle). I also pass another one on my way to work, I'll try to take a picture from the bus tomorrow;)

Sorry? ;) Just collecting those pictures made me hungry too and I used that deep fryer just to make myself some snacks tonight. It's too easy to get carried away really.

Lovely pictures -- the windmills aren't quite what I expected, but beautiful nonetheless. And OMG, I want fried things SOOOO badly now. Pour Pavlova looks delectable. *stomach growls*

Heehee, looks like you're not the only one who was hoping for other windmills, that didn't even cross my mind, as these huge energy-collectors are more common here nowadays;) I was so pleased with how that pavlova-creation came out, even more with the taste combinations.

What is that? Is that sunshine? *boggles*

I am not generally a fan of the deep fried foods, but I will admit those look good :p. Not as good as the pavlova though, omg nom!!

So weird: the day before the move it was snowing, but on Monday the sun came out! Long time, no see;)

I'm a bigger fan of fried food than I realized. *grins* Tonight I tried 'bamischijven', omnomnom. To protect myself I already vowed to not buy a new bottle of frying oil for a long time;)
