It was one of the hottest days ever in The Netherlands, so I stayed safely inside and in front of my fan all day:) Did the laundry this morning, but didn't have to leave the house for further adventures: I had all sorts of packages delivered to my door, woohoo!
Besides an awesome J2 treat by [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 (thank youuuuuuu!), I received a marvelous set of DVDs: fairytales told by Klaas Vaak (the sandman) who illustrates his stories by drawing with sand. Here's an example (narration is in Dutch, but it's well worth watching!)
I also ordered a new camera, since my old Canon Ixus 50 is breaking down and refuses to zoom out after zooming in. I now have a fancy Ixus 140HS, woot! Will start playing with it tomorrow and hopefully I'll be completely familiar with it before my big trip to Australia in December.

Speaking of traveling with the family, here are some photos of my visit to The Hague yesterday, including a set of my darling nephew:-)

Gorgeous building in the Herenstraat. *stares*

*stares some more*

Impressive statue in front of the massive Muzentoren

Went to the Korte Koediefstraat just to take a photo of the streetsign ("Short Cowthiefstreet", how cool is that name?) and discovered a beautiful old printers-building (from 1814) across the corner on the Fluwelen Burgwal (Velvet Citywall, another cool name;)

Cool faces high up on the faƧade of the Bijenkorf store. (Wagenstraat)

Shared this place before, but couldn't resist taking another picture; excavation finds on display in the floor of the subway station at the Grote Markt. Artefacts from the 14th-18th century! (More detailed photos from previous visit). The wood pattern depicts the old houses that used to stand on this site.

From here I took the tram to my family. Spent the afternoon catching up with my sister in law until my brother came home from work with my nephew (whom he'd picked up from daycare:)

After dinner we went out for icecream. Here is a before and after comparison of Ruben :-D (I made the second one to show him his icecream-beard on my camera;)

Climbing on dad while waiting for the tram to wave goodby to aunty J.

This concludes my series of summervacationposts. I still have the weekend off, but Monday it's back to work. *sighs*

The Hague has a fascinating mix of old and new buildings and they are all so much higher than in my hometown, it's overwhelming:)

I had made a map of possible Tony Chocolonely locations (just like I did for my trip to Amsterdam) - and when I saw that street on the map, I just had to go there *grins*
(didn't find any chocolate bars though, hrmpf)

That kid is getting cuter every time I see him. It was so cool to hear him talk, even if I don't understand all of his babbling yet;)

Hahaha, those street names are amazing! (Though I have to admit, I still think my street name is the best one of all *g*.) I should visit Den Haag properly some time, I only went to Scheveningen.

Ugh, Ruben is so big!!

Okay, yours is pretty funky too :-p My composer is only cool if you know his shady backstory;)

Ruben grows so fast! He started to babble too, in English and Dutch, I was very impressed (even if I didn't understand everything:)
