I should really work on a better system to archive my favorite art during challenges. To make a selection I had to backtrack through all of the comments I left, which took a while. Of course then I couldn't limit myself to only a top 10 because there were so many glorious creations. Basically I want you to check out all the spn_j2_bigbang artists of 2013!
Below is a list of suggestions where to start your journey through this magnificent part of fandom. Consider this my top 33 (in no particular order;)

Review: I absolutely love the imagery, the colours, the shading on the lettering and the raven in the banner is fantastic. That poster is supercool too and I really like how the smokey swirls appear in the whole set. Marvelous artwork.

Review: A well done set of art; I especially love the colouring on all of them. That storyheader is simply beautiful (I like the little nod with the bottle of Jim B(eam) ;-) and I like how the years are incorporated in the chapterheaders, they are really telling a story. Good stuff.

Review: Beautiful set of drawings depicting death. My favorite initial is the O, because the shape of the image fits the letter (that first T is glorious too!) but really all of these are amazing. It's a shame my monitor isn't big enough too look at that Deathdance banner in superpanorama view. So many details to discover!

The graphite pencil illustrations are great and adding only red for the Times cover works so well. And then, and then... there are these glorious watercolour impressions *chinhands* I don't know how it's possible, but some of them even feel like oilpaintings. What a beautiful set.

Review: What an awesome trailer! Short, but it sure managed to capture the feel of the era and the setting of the story. Love the grainy look and colouring. Same goes for the storybanner and the photomanip of J2: a perfect set of artwork!

Review: Cool sketches, I'm fascinated by the process and it's fun to see the before and after.
That cave painting is beautiful, I love all the blues in the rocks and in the shadows. Sam's suspicious (and slightly anxious!) face is captured perfectly.

Review: Oh, I just want to snuggle with this artwork, it's all so soft and sweet and there are so many beautiful scenes! The kids are all adorable and I love Dean's parted hair. Excellent art (and oomph for that sexscene, even if Dean's delicious butt is very sneakily covered up)

Review: Very haunting images: the storybanner has such a sense of doom and each chapterheader is like a little dark story all by itself. I'm in awe of the use of the micron pens, especially in the shadows and details (the rope! the dreamcatcher, the shady background in five) The lettering is perfectly picked, placed and played with. Good stuff.

Review: These are all so fricking gorgeous *stares* I was sighing in awe while scrolling through this post, truely wonderful work. The colours in all the landscape pieces are amazing. Night swimming, dayum, so dark and yet there is so much to see! Badlands with Sam's hair and the ominous clouds, jeebus. AND THEN THERE IS A SHOWER SCENE, I. can't. breath. aldgajeogeklbhfegjhegh. I want that on my wall. *applauds like mad*

Review: Spoileralert: this is basically a graphic novel out of the whole story! I love the minimal design of the banner; my goodness that image of their silhouettes is powerful. I love how those blues and grays are basecolours in the rest of the artwork. Special mention for the flowing curtain and Jared falling out of the frame. Very clever points of view.

Review: Gorgeous pieces from the linework to the colouring (and that subtle reflection in the water!). Transparent ghost Jared is perfect and I love the textures of the road and sidewalk.
Angel Jensen's wings are glorious and -oh- the beautiful different greens and textures of the trees and bushes.
The banner is indeed a wonderfully cut composition; I love the wings in that.

Review: Oooh, I love these graphics. I'm jealous of that colorscheme because I wouldn't have dared to combine those colours yet they work marvelously together! Great composition and lettering (the subtle gradient and shadowing, be still my heart). Inspirational.

Review: Amazing artwork! I love the black/brown colourpalet with the touch of colour for blood and evil eyes. The lightsources in each piece are fascinating and create extra tension in the scenes. The same goes for the combination of faded background and the strong black lines in the drawing itself.

Review: I love the graphic design on the banner and the silhouettes of the guys in black and red, the limited use of colour makes these very powerful images. The experimental image of slimey Sam is the odd one out in this set, but the snippets of the sexscenes are marvelously cut and a must see:)

Review: The lettering is rather weak, but the gorgeous and fascinating paintings absolutely make up for that. I love the colours on the storybanner; they give the image a wonderfully eery underwaterfeel.

Review: Very pretty set. I love the pale colours and the background in Hel's portrait; her hair and the fur colar have such a soft texture. Nice perspective on Boramir and Vali, I love their postures; (I can't stop staring at the top windows, they look so real!) The vague city is perfect. Good shadowing on Dean and Cas, love the emotion between them (and yay for Cas' tie!)

Review: Unf, very awesome drawing of Jensen and the tentacle monster and not just because his pants are hanging very low;) I love how the tentacles are tangled and how the light hits his shoulders. The second image is wonderful too with Jensen trying to climb Jared (I see you, eager leg); great angle and again with the magnificent light and shading. *chinhands*

Review: GLORIOUS ART! Magical realism at its best. The colours, the light and fire reflections: absolutely stunning. Love the attention to detail on the instrument shaped out of Dean's internal organs. My favorite bit is how Mary's hair swirls around her and turns into flames. Wow.

Review: Wonderful pose on the banner and I love how the molecular structure fits in there:) The way Jared and Gen lie together and how close up this is drawn makes it very intimate. Love it.
The other scenes all offer so many details to discover: I've been chinhanding at the campus and the girls up in the tree held my attention as well. Great set of art!

I seriously mean it when I say ALL the art is worth checking out. Of course there is a difference in talent and experience, but sometimes enthusiasm or concept tops execution.

I was very pleased to see there was plenty of attention for artwork this year, probably because the challenge was not as huge as previous editions. There was still a large amount of fic and art, but it was easier to keep up:)


The response to my own BB-artwork was overwhelming and to my surprise I'm still receiving comments every week! I never had such a massive amount of attention:) It makes all the injuries I suffered from the papercutting more than worth it *grins*

BB-artwork 2: J2 thriller AU Storm's Eye
- Papercut lighthouse blended in a graphic design and photocollage banners. Also a pencil sketch.
