beelikej: (BigBang2011)
[personal profile] beelikej
I should really work on a better system to archive my favorite art during challenges. To make a selection I had to backtrack through all of the comments I left, which took a while. Of course then I couldn't limit myself to only a top 10 because there were so many glorious creations. Basically I want you to check out all the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang artists of 2013!
Below is a list of suggestions where to start your journey through this magnificent part of fandom. Consider this my top 33 (in no particular order;)

All links are safe for work, unless otherwise noted;)
N.B. "Casefile" refers to stories based on the series, they fit with the Supernatural canon (SPN); RPS = Real Person Slash:)

The Raven by [livejournal.com profile] eyestoowide
Subject: Haunted House - SPN
Pairing/Characters: none depicted in art
Medium: Graphic designs
Review: I absolutely love the imagery, the colours, the shading on the lettering and the raven in the banner is fantastic. That poster is supercool too and I really like how the smokey swirls appear in the whole set. Marvelous artwork.

Conspectus by [livejournal.com profile] little_jade
Subject: Winchester history from Bobby's pov - SPN
Pairing/Characters: none depicted in art
Medium: Graphic designs
Review: A well done set of art; I especially love the colouring on all of them. That storyheader is simply beautiful (I like the little nod with the bottle of Jim B(eam) ;-) and I like how the years are incorporated in the chapterheaders, they are really telling a story. Good stuff.

Requiem by [livejournal.com profile] mangacat201
Subject: Demons vs religion - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared (past Jensen/Danneel)
Medium: Video
Review: Ex-cell-ent. Great music, perfect storytelling in motion. The images have an unavoidable SPN vibe, but the very clever addition of demon Danneel gives this an excellent RPS feel.

Dust & Shadow by [livejournal.com profile] culper355
Subject: Black Death casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Watercolors, pen & ink, Adobe Photoshop Elements
Review: Beautiful set of drawings depicting death. My favorite initial is the O, because the shape of the image fits the letter (that first T is glorious too!) but really all of these are amazing. It's a shame my monitor isn't big enough too look at that Deathdance banner in superpanorama view. So many details to discover!

The Colors of My Life by [livejournal.com profile] sammycolt24
Subject: (Blind!) Painter & Apprentice - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Graphite pencil, colored pencil, watercolour
Review: THESE ARE WONDERFUL!
The graphite pencil illustrations are great and adding only red for the Times cover works so well. And then, and then... there are these glorious watercolour impressions *chinhands* I don't know how it's possible, but some of them even feel like oilpaintings. What a beautiful set.

The Extraordinary Experiences of An Unusual Sidekick in the City by [livejournal.com profile] kidezt
Subject: Superheroes RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital drawings
Review: Oh, such fun drawings and those costumes are super cool! Unf. (I also really, really love Jared's hair *ruffles it*)

Salt of the Earth by [livejournal.com profile] amber1960
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam, Dean, Castiel
Medium: Digital drawings with phototextures
Review: From the nephilim to the ultrasound lines to the fire in the last one: all fascinating lightsources! A very cool set of artwork!

Little Hunter by [livejournal.com profile] amechiro
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: young Dean
Medium: Graphic designs
Review: I love the use of empty (black) space on the banner, it makes the image so much more haunting. The mixed up posters are stunning. Excellent set of art.

Leaving Footprints Behind by [livejournal.com profile] culper355
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Watercolors, pen & ink, graphite pencil, Adobe Photoshop 6
Rating: NC17 for full frontal nakedness.
Review: I love this drawing style; the combination of watercolours and ink is beautiful, especially in the portrait of transformed Dean, with the splash-yellow hair in contrast with the neat black lines. Also yay for artistic nudity \o/
Note: Second rec for this marvelous artist. Seriously: good stuff.

Together like the Devil and Sin by [dreamwidth.com profile] mithborien
Subject: Prohibition AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Video and graphic designs
Review: What an awesome trailer! Short, but it sure managed to capture the feel of the era and the setting of the story. Love the grainy look and colouring. Same goes for the storybanner and the photomanip of J2: a perfect set of artwork!

Beneath the Red Hills by [livejournal.com profile] sarahtoga
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Paintings, pencil sketches, graphic design
Review: Cool sketches, I'm fascinated by the process and it's fun to see the before and after.
That cave painting is beautiful, I love all the blues in the rocks and in the shadows. Sam's suspicious (and slightly anxious!) face is captured perfectly.

The Birds and The Bees by [livejournal.com profile] silly_blue
Subject: Romance, kidfic - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Dean/Castiel
Medium: Digital drawing
Rating: R for naked lovin'.
Review: Oh, I just want to snuggle with this artwork, it's all so soft and sweet and there are so many beautiful scenes! The kids are all adorable and I love Dean's parted hair. Excellent art (and oomph for that sexscene, even if Dean's delicious butt is very sneakily covered up)

Tripwire by [livejournal.com profile] sophiap
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Michael/Adam
Medium: Charcoal, pastels, pencil, ink
Rating: R for scary images.
Review: Very haunting images: the storybanner has such a sense of doom and each chapterheader is like a little dark story all by itself. I'm in awe of the use of the micron pens, especially in the shadows and details (the rope! the dreamcatcher, the shady background in five) The lettering is perfectly picked, placed and played with. Good stuff.

Riders on the Storm by [livejournal.com profile] salty_catfish
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Watercolours
Rating: R for images of animal cruelty
Review: These are all so fricking gorgeous *stares* I was sighing in awe while scrolling through this post, truely wonderful work. The colours in all the landscape pieces are amazing. Night swimming, dayum, so dark and yet there is so much to see! Badlands with Sam's hair and the ominous clouds, jeebus. AND THEN THERE IS A SHOWER SCENE, I. can't. breath. aldgajeogeklbhfegjhegh. I want that on my wall. *applauds like mad*

Your Signal in the Distance by [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7
Subject: Supernatural police procedural AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared, Misha
Medium: Markers
Rating: R for images of gunshot wounds. Also bare chests!
Review: Spoileralert: this is basically a graphic novel out of the whole story! I love the minimal design of the banner; my goodness that image of their silhouettes is powerful. I love how those blues and grays are basecolours in the rest of the artwork. Special mention for the flowing curtain and Jared falling out of the frame. Very clever points of view.

Sacrilege by [livejournal.com profile] dephigravity
Subject: Guardian angel AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital drawings
Review: Gorgeous pieces from the linework to the colouring (and that subtle reflection in the water!). Transparent ghost Jared is perfect and I love the textures of the road and sidewalk.
Angel Jensen's wings are glorious and -oh- the beautiful different greens and textures of the trees and bushes.
The banner is indeed a wonderfully cut composition; I love the wings in that.

Wild by [livejournal.com profile] inanna_maat
Subject: Werewolves AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Graphic designs, photo-collages
Review: Very dynamic artwork, I like the sense of movement and (animal) agression in the chapterheaders. Good use of colour and composition to connect all the pieces together:)

Hopeless Places by [livejournal.com profile] eyestoowide
Subject: Romance, datingshow AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Graphic designs
Review: Oooh, I love these graphics. I'm jealous of that colorscheme because I wouldn't have dared to combine those colours yet they work marvelously together! Great composition and lettering (the subtle gradient and shadowing, be still my heart). Inspirational.
Note: Second rec for this artist. One of my rolemodels.

Bliss in Emptiness by [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Soulless!Sam/Ruby, Dean Winchester
Medium: Charcoal, chalk, watercolor and digital drawings
Rating: R for blood, gore, monsters
Review: Amazing artwork! I love the black/brown colourpalet with the touch of colour for blood and evil eyes. The lightsources in each piece are fascinating and create extra tension in the scenes. The same goes for the combination of faded background and the strong black lines in the drawing itself.

The Devil's In The Details by [livejournal.com profile] tringic
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Graphic designs, photomanipulation
Rating: NC17 for erotic nakedness
Review: I love the graphic design on the banner and the silhouettes of the guys in black and red, the limited use of colour makes these very powerful images. The experimental image of slimey Sam is the odd one out in this set, but the snippets of the sexscenes are marvelously cut and a must see:)

The Spirit, The Water And The Blood by [livejournal.com profile] abstradreams
Subject: Casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Dean/Castiel
Medium: Digital paintings
Review: The lettering is rather weak, but the gorgeous and fascinating paintings absolutely make up for that. I love the colours on the storybanner; they give the image a wonderfully eery underwaterfeel.

Loki's Daughter by [livejournal.com profile] becc_j
Subject: Casefile AU with pagans - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Dean, Cas, OCs
Medium: Digital drawings
Review: Very pretty set. I love the pale colours and the background in Hel's portrait; her hair and the fur colar have such a soft texture. Nice perspective on Boramir and Vali, I love their postures; (I can't stop staring at the top windows, they look so real!) The vague city is perfect. Good shadowing on Dean and Cas, love the emotion between them (and yay for Cas' tie!)

Octocobra by [livejournal.com profile] fanlay
Subject: TV series AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital aintings and graphic design
Rating: R for glimpse op pubic hair;)
Review: Unf, very awesome drawing of Jensen and the tentacle monster and not just because his pants are hanging very low;) I love how the tentacles are tangled and how the light hits his shoulders. The second image is wonderful too with Jensen trying to climb Jared (I see you, eager leg); great angle and again with the magnificent light and shading. *chinhands*

Cas/sie by [livejournal.com profile] dosymedia
Subject: Romantic casefile AU - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Dean/Castiel, Dean/Cassie Robinson
Medium: Paintings
Review: Be sure to right click and view these pieces in their full glory. Beautiful artwork, very powerful imagery. Fascinating compositing and heavy shading in the first one. The second is my favorite because of its soft colours and AWESOME lionhead. Cool stuff.

Outside Over There by [livejournal.com profile] riverofwind
Subject: Fairytale - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Digital drawings, graphic design and pencil sketches
Review: These drawings all look so adorable and sweet! Love the fragile leaves on the lettering and in the dividers. The rough paper background works really well in the banner and even better with the portraitsketches. Niiiiice.

Love Game by [livejournal.com profile] transfixeddream
Subject: Tennis AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital drawings
Review: Really cute chibis and lettering. I love the texture and shading on the tennisballs! The perspective, composition and colours of the banner are all wonderful. I like that there are no straight lines:)

That Daring Young Man by [livejournal.com profile] uh_tiramisu
Subject: Circus AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital drawings, photomanipulation
Review: I love this style with the solid shapes and colours; it fits the circus theme and time period perfectly:) The posters are awesome! I like the mix of hard shadows of the guys and the vague shades on the tent walls. Also kudos for bonus old black and white photo of Jensen, heehee.

They Then Ate the Sailors by [livejournal.com profile] perpetualflora
Subject: Pre-series romance, casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam/Dean
Medium: Graphite/pencil (?)
Review: I don't usually link when there is no option to compliment the artist, but I loved all the drawings a lot. It's really crafty how they all come together in the storybanner, but they are great scenes on their own too.
Note: Art is embedded in story at AO3 (link above). Ficmasterpost on LJ.

All Your Instruments by [livejournal.com profile] blueteainfusion
Subject: post-apocalyse AU - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Dean, Mary
Medium: Digital paintings
Review: GLORIOUS ART! Magical realism at its best. The colours, the light and fire reflections: absolutely stunning. Love the attention to detail on the instrument shaped out of Dean's internal organs. My favorite bit is how Mary's hair swirls around her and turns into flames. Wow.

Trust Issues by [livejournal.com profile] shifterkrooi
Subject: Slave SciFi AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Digital drawings
Ratings: NC17 for blowjob (link to uncensored image:)
Review: Beautiful drawings, I love the pale colouring. The banner is sweet and has such a great composition. I adore Jensen's hair in all of the scenes - yes, I said Jensen's, although Jared's hair looks AWESOME in the last image;) (Also: his suit!)

Jared's Ghost by [livejournal.com profile] evian_fork
Subject: Action-adventure AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jensen/Jared
Medium: Graphic designs, photo collages
Review: Excellent combination of letterfont and designstyle. Love these complicated collages; the colouring is magnificent and there is so much to discover in the images. They set a very emotional mood. Good stuff.

Arms Wide Open by [livejournal.com profile] ileliberte
Subject: Pre-series AU, casefile - SPN
Pairing/Characters: Sam, Dean
Medium: Digital drawings, composition
Review: Excellent use of empty space in the drawings and even literally in the banner, it gives the images such an emotional depth. Lonely Sam is awesome and Dean in just outlines is beautiful. Love all of these!

Chemical Bonding by [livejournal.com profile] scarletscarlet
Subject: College a/b/o AU - RPS
Pairing/Characters: Jared/Genevieve, Danneel
Medium: Digital paintings
Review: Wonderful pose on the banner and I love how the molecular structure fits in there:) The way Jared and Gen lie together and how close up this is drawn makes it very intimate. Love it.
The other scenes all offer so many details to discover: I've been chinhanding at the campus and the girls up in the tree held my attention as well. Great set of art!

-------

I seriously mean it when I say ALL the art is worth checking out. Of course there is a difference in talent and experience, but sometimes enthusiasm or concept tops execution.
There is a masterlist, divided by pairing, in the community: here

I was very pleased to see there was plenty of attention for artwork this year, probably because the challenge was not as huge as previous editions. There was still a large amount of fic and art, but it was easier to keep up:)

The response to my own BB-artwork was overwhelming and to my surprise I'm still receiving comments every week! I never had such a massive amount of attention:) It makes all the injuries I suffered from the papercutting more than worth it *grins*
BB-artwork 1: J3 polyamory You and Me and Him
- Graphic designs, photomanipulation and my first NC-17 artpiece made out of paper. \o/
BB-artwork 2: J2 thriller AU Storm's Eye
- Papercut lighthouse blended in a graphic design and photocollage banners. Also a pencil sketch.

I've also finished reading all the BB fics that were relevant to my interests:) There will be a recpost of those later. Until then: enjoy the art!
