beelikej: (To See The World...)
[personal profile] beelikej
Ever since I got back from the fangirl-get-together in Oslo with [livejournal.com profile] bflyw (N) and [livejournal.com profile] sillie82 (S), it's been crazy busy at work and I needed all my weekendtime to recharge. So it took me a while before I had some energy left to go through all my photos and make a selection to spam you with:) Once again I failed in keeping it small (99 photos!) and once again there are artsy nudes, which may not be safe to watch in company if they can't handle marble, granite or bronze boobs and peens. Oh, also: selfies (all clothed;). You have been warned. ENJOY!

Friday July 4, 2014 - Flying from Amsterdam to Oslo

5135 Oslo 04072014
Hi! This is me; parking my bike at the station with my travelcard in my mouth
and in the mirror on the elevator to the platform with my backpack and my bag:)

5139 Oslo 04072014
A photo from the train, crossing the river IJssel,
mainly taken for N., so I could show her how flat The Netherlands is/are:)

5142 Oslo 04072014
Due to a truck getting stuck on the track to the airport, I had to make a detour by bus, thus arriving outside of the airport. I found S. and her parents waiting inside; I was an hour later than planned, but since we had calculated plenty of check-in time, we were still on time \o/

5144 Oslo 04072014
See? S. and me happily smiling on the plane.
Apparently not everyone on this flight is as excited as we are. Huh.

5152 Oslo 04072014
The trainstation of Oslo airport, isn't it gorgeous? N. and her daughter picked us up at the arrival gate and together we got on a train to Lillestrøm...

5155 Oslo 04072014
Yay! Happy fangirls! Squeeeeeeeee. From here we took a local bus to N's house.

5162 Oslo 04072014
S. and I got our own rooms! Clearly I got the best one: look at all the gorgeous SPN-people on the wall. I sure had sweet dreams:)

Saturday July 5, 2014 - Operahouse, Vikingmuseum, Ferry

5164 Oslo 05072014
Early morning: having breakfast and reading fanfic on the front balcony
with a splendid view of the mountains hills. (I will keep calling them mountains;)

5171 Oslo 05072014
Waiting at the busstop for the bus to Oslo (about 20 minutes!)

5176 Oslo 05072014
The harbour. This pic is probably only funny for my Dutch friends, because of the Sukkerbiten (sugarbeets).

5183 Oslo 05072014
Art installation in front of the operahouse. The pink building in the background is a hotel. (right, [livejournal.com profile] bflyw?)

5184 Oslo 05072014
Same art, different angle, with Hovadøya island in the background.
I love how the light reflects of the glass.

5186 Oslo 05072014
Interior of the Operahouse.

5191 Oslo 05072014
Happy fangirls in front of Operahouse:)

5196 Oslo 05072014
The Operahouse in all its glory. It's huge and you can even climb on top of it, which we did:)

5202 Oslo 05072014
Walking across a construction area I saw this immense statue.

5210 Oslo 05072014
Cornerbuilding of Karls Johans gate, the main shopping street of Oslo. I was so obsessed by the wooden structures on the wall, I completely missed the gorgeous clock on the side. You can find a great photo of that in [livejournal.com profile] sillie82 journal, see links below!

We didn't go shopping, but got on a buss to the Bygdøy peninsula where all the museums are.

5219 Oslo 05072014
Vikingship! One of the three that were discovered and recovered as burial ships. But they were actually build and used as regular ships in the 800-900s (if I remember correctly)

5226 Oslo 05072014
A close up of the nails to remind myself these were also all handmade. History is cool.

5229 Oslo 05072014
You can take a ferry in between musea and back to the mainland.
Not made by vikings, but -hey!- in the Netherlands, haha!

5136 Oslo 05072014
View on Akershus Castle & Fortress from ferry

5138 Oslo 05072014
View on sky.

View on me! Made by [livejournal.com profile] bflyw;) (For more of her point of view, check out the link below!)

5141 Oslo 05072014
A selfie; watching cityhall in the distance

5144 Oslo 05072014
Back on the city-side. I love this statue. What a woman.

5148 Oslo 05072014
We took the bus back to N's and did groceries in the nearby supermarket: Yippee, Norwegian strawberries! (which may or may not be even better than Dutch strawberries;)

Sunday July 6, 2014 - Telthusbakken, Gamle Aker Kirke, Vigeland
5252 Oslo 06072014
Had seen it from the bus the day before, had to take a picture:) Moose-warning! (Didn't see any though *pouts*)

5255 Oslo 06072014
Dude on shopfront of men's clothing store.

5258 Oslo 06072014
Meet the other photographers:)

5265 Oslo 06072014
We walked through climbed up Telthusbakken, the oldest street in Oslo. Adorable little houses and flowergardens. (I made these photos for my mom:)

5270 Oslo 06072014
See? So pretty.

5274 Oslo 06072014
At the top of the mountain hill stands the oldest church in Oslo.

5275 Oslo 06072014
The Gamle Aker Kirke (Old Aker Church) was build around 1100 and was the place where the first parlement got together.

5280 Oslo 06072014
It's a gorgeous building.

5286 Oslo 06072014
With a great view of the city.

5290 Oslo 06072014
Peek-a-boo:)

5293 Oslo 06072014
From here, Nina took us to a very cool and artsy part of town to show us the awesome murals in 'nothing-alley'.

5298 Oslo 06072014
Very colourful designs...

5303 Oslo 06072014
but also freaky black and whites!

5304 Oslo 06072014
A funky chandelier and jumping goat on the wall in the alley.

5312 Oslo 06072014
And also... this lovely sight.

5310 Oslo 06072014
Yes, that's right: a penis swan. Hello Oslo.

In the afternoon N. left S and me with instructions to get to Vigelandpark, the must-see destination in Oslo. Come with us? (FYI all photos are clickable to a larger size)

5322 Oslo 06072014
Saw this bear while walking from the tramstop to the park. Love it.

5323 Oslo 06072014
Statue of Sonja Henie by Per Ung in front of Frogner Stadium.
She was a Norwegian figure skater and film star.

5324 Oslo 06072014
Detail of the entrance of Vigeland park.

5326 Oslo 06072014
This is a statue of Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943), he was a Norwegian sculptor who made a deal with the Oslo citycouncil; in return for giving him room to work, his massive sculpture installation would be donated to the city.

5330 Oslo 06072014
And thus Vigeland park was created. This is the bridge, with loads of statues of all kinds of (anonymous) people. It's such fun to walk through. I'll just let you enjoy it in silence. Feel free to touch the art!

5339 Oslo 06072014

5347 Oslo 06072014

5361 Oslo 06072014

5363 Oslo 06072014

5365 Oslo 06072014
The Monolith (121 figures, made from one piece of granite). I could stare at this all day. Definitely need to go back with more time! (We only spent about an hour and a half in the park)

5367 Oslo 06072014

5369 Oslo 06072014

5376 Oslo 06072014

5380 Oslo 06072014
This angry toddler is seen on all the souvenirs, but we had a hard time finding it; it's hidden behind one of the pilars on the bridge!

5384 Oslo 06072014
My favorite pieces are however the struggling monsters on the huge pilars on the four sides of the bridge.

5389 Oslo 06072014
The stairs to the busterminal, where we got on a bus back home to N. (all by ourselves!)

Monday July 7, 2014 - Akershus Slott og Festning
5394 Oslo 07072014
Another sign I had my eyes on since the first day into town. Finally managed to capture it, yay!

5398 Oslo 07072014
We start today's explorations with a walk through the main shopping street.

5401 Oslo 07072014
Never forget to look down once in a while: the city's seal!

5408 Oslo 07072014
And suddenly a wild Pan appears! Hel-lo. (My apologies to the lady in the middle for that unfortunate shot)
FYI: God of Nature, the Wild, Shepherds, Flocks, Goats, etc. (often associated with fertility/sex, I wonder why;)

5415 Oslo 07072014
The National Theater always has a play of Ibsen in production.

5419 Oslo 07072014
On our way to the Akershus Fortress & Castle, it started to rain and rain and rain.

5422 Oslo 07072014
And rain some more. But we persevered and walked to our destination anyway. Here we pass cityhall.

5423after Oslo 07072014
Statue on the side of cityhall. I bet it's an ancient king;)

5424 Oslo 07072014
View on the harbour (with my back to cityhall)

5425 Oslo 07072014
Welcome to the fortress!

5428 Oslo 07072014
There was also an outdoors exhibition of modern art, a lovely contrast with the old buildings.

5428detail Oslo 07072014
A sign explained this was a mix of an elephant and a bird. It won a competition.

5431 Oslo 07072014
Still raining!

5432 Oslo 07072014
This is pillowman. So you never have to feel alone when sitting on a bench:)

5433 Oslo 07072014
Because of the rain, we decided to not explore the grounds, but we did check out the Information Center, where we learned about the long history of the fortress.

5440 Oslo 07072014
Cannons! Castle! Rain!

5446 Oslo 07072014
We walked back to the trainstation, this mural is on the corner of the main square.

5451 Oslo 07072014
*growls*

5454 Oslo 07072014
Back home, N. baked me moose-burgers. They were delicious. Mmmm, moose.

5458 Oslo 07072014
For dessert we had Norwegian waffles (with cherries and strawberry-jam, nom)

Tuesday July 8, 2014 - Traveling home
5463 Oslo08072014
On our final day I made a quick trip to the supermarket for some souvenir snacks.
I love Norwegian; reading it is quite complicated, but once we figured out how to pronounce things,
some words sound suspiciously Dutch. (kjøkkenredskap = keukengereedschap = kitchentools:)

5465 Oslo08072014
Byeeeeeeeee! N. accompanied us to the busstop of the airportshuttlebus.

5466 Oslo08072014
Flybussekspressen = flightbusexpress:)

5474 Oslo08072014
Oslo airport Gardermoen. Love that sculpture.

5475 Oslo08072014
Glorious tower.

5479 Oslo08072014
Another one for the Dutch folks; remember when they tried to simplify our written language in the seventies? This is what it would look like:)

5486 Oslo08072014
Our plane!

Be prepared for all the plane-pics. I love flying and I had a windowseat this time *grins*

5493 Oslo08072014
Bye rainy Oslo!

5496 Oslo08072014
Look: mountains!

No really, compare that to the photos below of our flat country, and you'll understand.

5506 Oslo08072014

5508 Oslo08072014

5509 Oslo08072014

5510 Oslo08072014
I just love how organised my country is.

5515 Oslo08072014
Touch down! The flight went ahead as scheduled and we arrived in Amsterdam on time (21:10) \o/

5519 Oslo08072014
I said goodbye to S. who was being picked up from the airport and I went to the station for my train home.

Because of reconstruction of the tracks after that accident with the truck four days ago, the 22:03 train from Schiphol was cancelled "rijdt niet", BUT! The 21:33 had a 15 minute delay and I managed to catch that one after all (even though it was rerouted because of another break down *sighs*)

5524 Oslo08072014
Me and one of my snack-souvenirs: a chocolate covered licorice. Not recommended. If only I had been able to bring some moose burgers....

The end.
And I didn't even share pictures of the fangirling in between the touristy trips! It was a blast to finally be able to sit down together for some good old CSI and squee about Nick & Greg. Of course there was also plenty of chatting about Supernatural and life in general. I had a brilliant time, ladies. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] bflyw for taking such good care of us. *smishes*

Wheeee!!! Awesome picspam of an awesome weekend. *smishes both you and Nina* :D :D

(Oh, btw... would you mind me posting one or two of the pictures with the three of us on it that you didn't post? With credit of course and I'll also be linking to this post.)

Hee, there actually are. Can you believe that? XD Awesome. :D

How about now? No? How about tomorrow? Why can't we just snap our fingers and transport to where we want to be? *pouts*
(but seriously... I'd definitely love to go again. I feel like there is so much more to see... of Oslo, and of CSI/Spn ;) )

Fabulous! Thoroughly enjoyed looking at these. One thing I am struck with is the enormous amount of art EVERYWHERE. Like, just along the street, or IN the street. Very, very cool!

And, of course, PENIS SWAN!!! You need that for an icon LOL!!

Kudos for not being scared off by the amount of photos:) I love that there is not only a whole park made for sculptures, but there is also lots of random streetart all over Oslo.
The penis swan was definitely the highlight of the trip *grins* (Besides meeting up with fangirls, of course;)

Wow, wow, wow!!!!! All the sculptures. I did a double take at the penis swan - at first I was like, 'aw look at that, how interesting' and then I took a closer look because 'whaaaaa?' LMAO I also really love that sculpture at the airport. I also like the one of the tiger(?). It's huge!! Such a variety of art!

And yay for museums. I love going through them!! And the photos of you three (I literally LOL with delight at your goodbye pic of your shadows!!) and the food and from the plane! Whee!!! It looks like y'all had a wonderful time together.

Thanks so much for the link, bb! I absolutely enjoyed looking at these. I've been staring at them since you sent me the link, in fact. ♥

I had the same reaction upon noticing the penis swan;)
Yep, that massive beast is indeed a tiger and the sculpture is called.... *drumroll* Tiger ('Tigeren'). Hehehehe. Made by Elena Engelsen for the 1000-year anniversary of Oslo (in 2000) because the city's nickname is tigercity (ehm, yeah.)

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of artsy museums; they usually make me feel a bit selfconscious. The vikingship museum was super cool though!

Not traveling on my own and staying at someone else's house was more than a little daunting, but I've been told I did well *grins* and I did have a good time.

This picspam has made me even more determined to continue with my Australia photos. I'll let you know when they finally go online:)

Huh - didn't like Nero. Hm.... I love it actually! I don't know anyone else that loves it though, so I guess I am weird. :-)

I love your pictures! As I told S, I love to see what you guys saw in Oslo, because you catch so many details that I doesn't see. I am totally blind to the city.

Actually, the building at the harbour is not a hotel. It's an office bulding that called "Havnelageret" (Harbour Warehouse) and it contains the HQ of Dagbladet newspaper, the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency and the Norwegian Intelligence Service' archive. It is a monumental building though.

I guess it's easier to build a structured country when you don't have to go around, above or through mountains when you build roads etc. :-)

Also - we have to do this again!

The Nero soft structure just didn't do it for me. But you know I didn't hate all the licorice/chocolate combinations your people came up with;) \m/ Rock & Roll!!

It's always nice to see your town through someone else's eyes. You know you're more than welcome to come over here and do the same for me;) WE NEED TO DO MORE FANGIRLING!! (Wouldn't mind at all meeting up again wherever;)

Ahw, thanks for the extra info, I couldn't find the building mentioned on the maps I had, so figured it didn't have a significant purpose, oops.

Great photos! I'd love to visit Norway - one day and before I forget everything I ever learned about the Vikings when I was at Uni. That sculpture park and all the graffitti - wonderful!
Kyoto and Nara had wonderfully decorative manhole covers too - it definitely pays to look at ones feet occasionally. :D
