Fangirl weekends are the best

In between all the artproject-wips, a new userpic and Sillie's birthday party I hadn't had time yet to tell y'all about my fangirl weekend with
tanisafan. On Friday afternoon (Jan. 16) I picked up T. from the station and we took the bus into town, where we got off near the Thorbeckegracht for a short walk to Waanders In De Broeren, the awesome bookstore-in-a-church. We spent lots of time admiring the interior:) I posted about this building last year as well, but I found some new angles to show you and there was a new art exhibit, so: tiny picspam...

Not part of the main-exhibit, but how cute is this statue?
The light through the stained-glass windows made the splendid high wall even more gorgeous.

During restoration of the church (from 1465) they discovered another part of the old citywall as well as this guy who was buried nearby with bound hands and feet. They named him Hermen. His skeleton is usually on display in a glass floorcasing in a corner the bookstore, but that was currently closed for repairs.
On the right the corner ceiling right above the entrance of the store.

The main art exhibit is way high up in the building; you climb three floors filled with books to get there, but it so worth it. This month there was bronze art from Miep Maarse (1945) look at the precious little hippos! In the view from above you can see the massive organ. Spot the statue below!

There were big hippos too; this set represents the four seasons. My favorite was winter, because that knitted bronze scarf looks perfectly snug around that smooth big neck.

We ended our afternoon with a fancy lunch in the food corner (with massive stain-glass window in the back). We both had the wild boar-burger with mushrooms and red berries, in addition T. had a pumpkin quiche (pie) and I had mustard soup with smoked salmon. Everything was delicious.
(Want to see more of this building? Check out last year's visit:)
When we walked back to the busstop, we had this view:

*chinhands* My town is so pretty:)
And that concludes the tiny touristy walk;)
We then took the bus to the supermarket in my neighbourhood and after a quick round of groceries we got to my apartment where we chatted some more before settling up in the attic for a bit of big screen fangirling. I recently discovered Orphan Black, which means that I make anybody who comes over watch the first episode. I had already turned Jelle into a fan the week before and the same happened with T. We watched three episodes before bed \o/
The next day we had a luxurious breakfast before going upstairs to quench our Hornblower thirst. We had watched that whole series of TV-films (1998-2003) during our Wet 'n Wild marathon in 2007 (aka The Marathon Of Soaking Wet Men and Must See Movies) - this time we limited ourselves to the two favorite subtext parts with midshipmen Horatio Hornblower and his "best friend" Archie Kennedy, played by respectively Ioan Gruffud and Jamie Bamber, with an honourable mention of Robert Lindsay as their captain.
Ahw, just look at these guys

They are such bffs, like that time when Archie was captured and Horatio rescued him and had to bring him back from insanity, holding him in his arms to feed him. For some reason that got us in the mood for good old fanfic - yes there is a fandom. *happy sigh*
After our adventures at sea, we watched all six episodes of You, Me & Them with Anthony Head (Giles from Buffy) and Eve Myles (Gwen from Torchwood) as a couple facing their family. That was cute and funny:)
Heh, I just realized I saw both of them on stage in London! Not in the same play though:)
Speaking of LND: this afternoon I managed to score a ticket to see Kevin Spacey in Clarence Darrow again. \o/
Last but not least, T. and I watched more Orphan Black; on Sunday morning we finished S1 and even had time for the first episode of S2. SO GOOD. Definitely recommended. I finished S2 by myself yesterday and I am pretty bummed I have to wait until April for the next season. SERIOUSLY, SO GOOD. Tatiana Maslany (who plays the main characters) is amazing *fangirling*. Very much recommended.
This weekend (like last weekend) will be dedicated to artwork and maybe catching up on fandom. I also have a movie-night planned with my mom. I put The Paperboy with Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack on the progam. Will let you know what we think;)
