WoOt, wo0t! Had a long weekend and when I got to work this morning a parcel had arrived with THREE NEW BOOKS \o/ I updated my readinglist:)
I've been disappointed to find out the
spn_cinema challenge will be postponed until the autumn. Not the first time one of my favorite events changes plans and I'm very bad at accepting change. Plus I was READY; had a film and medium picked out and everything. First thought was to stop joining challenges alltogether, but maybe I should take this opportunity to sing up for
spnspringfling? I don't know... making something anonymously (in both directions) is just so nervewracking, but I do like working on my own and I love the short turnaround.
I still have until Friday to consider, right? I'm still a little too sad to care. Opinions are appreciated.
So, about that long weekend! I had a
sillie82 from Friday until Sunday. There was lots of CSI (3 golden oldies and 13 episodes of Season 15 with a final that has a major impact on our OTP) and a film (Scott Pilgrim vs The World, which S. hadn't seen, so I picked it knowing she's a fan of Chris Evans *grins*) plus of course Supernatural (an episode from S1 with John for meeeeee and five episodes of Season 10, oh wow).
Before we sat down to watch all this on the big screen up in my attic I took S. along on an official touristy city walk through my town. Want to walk with us? We only did half the tour, which already took us four hours, because we areslow thorough.
Of course I made a lot of photos, here's a selection of 24 with minimum text (hahahahaha).

The old city wall plus the old monastery behind the Broerenkerk (1465), this is now four star restaurant Librije.
On the right a close up of the Wijndragerstoren (Winecarriers-tower).

Thorbeckegracht (name of canal and road) with my back to the Wijndragerstoren and citywall on the right.

A peek through the ally in between the church and the monastery plus the entrance to the kitchen below.

Corner of the monastery. Don't you just love all these old features on the windows?
Blue and white are the colours of my town.

The old prison (from 1740 until 2004!) is now a very expensive hotel (about 500 euros for a suite!)
Some modern art in a shop window (and me;)

Top of the bridge at the end of the Diezerstraat and the last part of the old citywall (1500s)

The Wijndragerstoren in the background and the Pelsertoren on the right. (Pels = pelt)

Diezerstraat, shoppingstreet: Art Deco details on the left, Neogothic building on the right.

I've shared this awesome wall before: look at all the animals. Corner of Rodehaan steeg (Red Rooster Alley)

Fancy faƧades: bellshaped and Vingboons style (an architect from Amsterdam 1607-1678);
I zoomed in for a better view of my favorite flowershaped top.

A Gaper translated a yawner; a figure used to indicate that this building is a pharmacy. He's opening his mouth to take medicine;) The current clothes-shop still has the old interior of the pharmacy: see the fancy cabinet with all the drawers for different cures.

Silhouettes of the St. Michael's church (with the angel Michael on top) and the Peperbus tower on the right.
In front of the big church stands a modern statue of Michael in green glass.

The Korte Ademhalingssteeg (Short Breath Alley) is the walkway between the old cityhall and the main square where prisoners would walk to the gallows...
Cityhall is modernized now; in front a statue by Rodin. The square-shaped tiles indicate where the corner tower used to be.
This is not where our tour ended; we did some shopping in the old sweetshop on the corner before exploring another part of the city-centre. But I figured this was nice place to end.
If you want the full history walk and talk, you are welcome to come over;)

Date: 2015-03-03 08:54 pm (UTC)We conferred with some folks at the time and it seemed as though there was great overloading/fatigue from Masquerade, Meant to Be, and Big Bang all running back to back. The other mod and I just discussed moving this next formal round up a bit to avoid all the fall challenges, and it will likely open for claims in July with posting in September. I hope this works better! ♥

Date: 2015-03-03 09:17 pm (UTC)I sort of get wanting to offer the challenge to a lot of people, but personally I would much rather have a small dedicated group of participants than a big group of people who can't abide by the rules and keep pushing deadlines. So I would reward the people who did hand in their drafts by sticking to the rules agreed upon :-p
I JUST LOVE RULES, OKAY. *pouts*

Date: 2015-03-03 09:00 pm (UTC)I love wonderful architectural detail like this, the art-Deco is stunning.
For some reason the winecarriers tower makes me think of the Borgias and Castel sant'angelo.

Date: 2015-03-03 11:32 pm (UTC)As for springfling... you know my concerns, but I decided to give it one round to try and see how I feel about it. I think that's the advantage of the quick turn around; you don't have a lot of time to fret. :')

That's a LOT of teepee! When did you find the time to get out and about for those beautiful photos? :DDD

Dude, you've gotta go with the flow. Change is the one "constant" of life. Makes things interesting, you know? ;) I, too, already have my film (and author, and main scenes to draw) picked out and was also a bit disappointed by the pushback, but am now viewing the delayed start as a boon. More time to think about artworks; more time for my author to write the story; AND fewer entanglements from other challenges. IMO, the change is a relief. (Which is probably because I'm signed up for so darn MUCH. YMMV.) :D

DOOOOOOO EEEEEEET! Springfling is a blast! ♥

Date: 2015-03-04 07:26 pm (UTC):-p I'm sure I'll be okay once I'm used to the new dates, I just have a lot of crap going on in real life and was looking forward to some escaping in the awesome mash up of film and those SPN folks. (Almost revealed what I had in mind there, oops)
My town is darling, isn't it:) Sillie made even more gorgeous photos *chinhands*
Don't you know that time is infinite when fangirls get together? It's so we can watch ALL THE THINGS. I forgot to mention we also made a cake. Because that's how we roll.
I'm still very scared about springfling, but the short turn around is such a turn on. Trying to fill in the form as we speak;)

Date: 2015-03-06 11:14 pm (UTC)It's so amazing to look at all the different types of buildings and how they were built.
The photo of St. Michael's church with the clouds is really breathtaking.
It's neat and a little creepy the hotel that used to be a prison. I think stuff like that is really cool.
Thanks so much for taking us along on your tour. Love seeing your picture posts. :)

Date: 2015-03-08 06:28 pm (UTC)I dearly love my town and its long history:) We would have gone into that pharmacy-turned-clothesstore if they hadn't sprayed the place with an overload of perfume, yuck. Good thing we could take a peek and picture from outside;)
Clouds make everything look so much more dramatic, don't they?
I checked the prices for the hotel because I thought it was supercool, turns out it's also superexpensive: 500 euros a night for a suite. *gulps* I can stay in my own appartment for almost a month for that amount of money!
