Last friday my mom and I visited a Paper Art exhibit in the CODA museum in Apeldoorn. This town is a 50 minute trainride away from our hometown Z. The museum is a 15 minute walk from the station, but we took a little longer because we got distracted by the cute shops along the way;) We spent exactly(!) two hours in the museum and I made over a hundred photos (this is a selection). It was inspirational to see in how many different ways all those artists used paper. Not that I'm even close to this level of awesome*:

The sculpture in front of Apeldoorn central station is named 'The Kiss' by Jeroen Henneman; it was made as a anniversarypresent for our King & Queen in 2007.
The paperpiece welcoming you to the museum is Red Deer, made especially for this exhibit by Himanshu Agrawal

Birds of Bogotá - These colourful paperbirds are made by Diana Beltran Herrera, who also made the stamp up above.
The white selection of weapons is by Sarah Frost, this piece is called Arsenal

A close up and the full wallpiece of ridiculously detailed 'tiles' of paper, Tapestry by Gunjan Aylawadi. I swear my mom's not touching the art, she's making a photo with her phone (because zooming in causes blur;)

White sculptures by Li Hongbo: Bust of Agrippa & Bust of Ancient Girl in the background. Watch how he creates these awesome 3D designs: Li Hongbo - Out Of Paper (3 minutes) or Paper Art by Li Hongbo (14 minutes;)
The black cut out Galaxy Cluster is by Andy Singleton, inspired by images the Hubble telescope made of space. I love the shadow effect.

Also by Andy Singleton: Anatomic - Paper, installation, monofilament wire, adhesive, steel pins.

Love these collages by Silvia Beltrami: Panopticon 1+2, it appears to be a group of people until you look closer and see it's all made out of torn fragments of bodies. So cool.

Intricate broches and necklaces by Li Chu Wu.
Two masks by Phillip Valdez: Angelic Hosts (made for this exhibit) and Behind the Gate; the photographs in the background are by his wife Elisa Lazo de Valdez.

I included the sign with this detail of the dollar necklace because I was worried you wouldn't believe me otherwise: made out of one dollar bills by Lauren Vanessa Tickle: $ 250,000 US Dollars, woah.
The bacteria on the right are part of a huge installation by Rogan Brown, see below...

Up close you can see how Meg Hitchcock converted text from Koran into Bible scriptures, letter by letter in wonderful patterns.

My favorite cardboard pieces: St. George and the dragon & St Michael by Chris Gilmour, they are so awesomely detailed. <3

1388-CODA 9 okt2015.jpg 1384-CODA 9 okt2015.jpg
Chris Gilmour also made a Harley Davidson Chopper, called Captain America.
The carpet-installation is by Wang Lei; hanging white sculpture is by Richard Sweeney.

Amazing anatomical filigree work by Lisa Nilsson: Midsagittal Female (detail)
Eric Standley created his paperart of Islamic architecture with layering lasercut designs.

That concludes the tour of the museum. I also made a couple of photos when mom and I walked back to the station (we did some shopping for Children's bookweek in between;)

Walls covered in rooftiles, how odd. I'm not sure if I could handle sitting down in those glass alcoves.

Apeldoorn dates back to the 8th century and it's surrounded by archeological sites from the Neolithicum, but most buildings in the citycentre are build in the 19th century. We also came across this cool piece of wall art:)

I heartily recommend a visit; the exhibit runs until October 25th, but the museum and Apeldoorn are also worth your while on their own.

Ooooh, even so, I did already receive a bid on my offer of paperart for the fanworks charity auction at [livejournal.com profile] fandom4syria!

positively awe inspiring, wow, I can't even pick a favorite thing, I'm usually one for bright colors but "outbreak" just took my breath away.

These are AMAZING! Particularly the "Outbreak" piece and the stained-glass-window layer cut piece. (Also? I have no doubt that you could work similar magic with your own flashing knives . . . :)

It was such a thrill to see this exhibit and trying to figure out the different techniques used. What I loved most was actually discovering bits of glue and left pencil lines up close, or how for instance the first E in NEDERLAND in that first birdpiece isn't quite lined up with the rest of the letters, because those things show the artist's hand, does that make sense? Those little 'imperfections' made the final pieces even more perfect. <3
I was so very impressed by all the things and especially the massive patience a lot of the artists must have. I'm still not quite sure if Outbreak was cut by hand or laser, but the concept and execution is just awesome.

I'm so glad I found out about this exhibit in time for a visit, I loved it a LOT. (There was however one artist who is not featured in this picspam because his art made me think of badly executed Sinterklaassurprises *grins*)

Definitely keeping an eye on future CODA events, it's a pretty museum.
