My first paperart of 2016! [Snowflake Day 4B]

So, eh, hi? I didn't mean to stop posting in the middle of the Snowflake challenge, but I all of a sudden got the urge to do one of my home cleaning projects and it just felt so good to finally get my life back on track, that I didn't want to use going online as an excuse to fall back on procrastinating. I feel I'm getting a grip on things again and I will finish the rest of the challenge in my own time;)
In between sorting out my arts & crafts closet, I also worked on another Snowflake Day 4 artwish: I made a storybanner for elmyraemilie! I returned to one of my old fandoms that I never made art for: Harry Potter. I was working on my interpretation of Severus Snape on the day Alan Rickman died, it was nice to be able to do something to remember him.

It's a pretty cool story:) It was also fun to discover that elmyraemilie and I have more old fandoms in common:) Who knows what may inspire me next... I loved stepping out of my SPN comfort zone and arting with a different character. Here's how I made the banner:



First I made a digital set up and then traced that into a pencil outline with letters indicating the colours so I'd know how to cut. The fingers in the peachpaper are going to be bendable:)


This is a mirror image by the way; there's a black sheet underneath the white model.
On my lighttabel I can see if I cut all the way through the two layers.


The black layer is one piece! (Don't mind all the scratches on my cuttingplastic, clearly I need a new cover).
Snape's face is glued behind his hair, the left arm is stuck to the bar and the fingers on his right hand are folded around the bottle (no glue).
I meant for the white paperbackground to fill in the negative space and you're brain is supposed to fool you into seeing the sleeves;)


I sketched the tattoos and text with pencil and then used a black marker for the final touch.


A close up of the paperlayers and markertext. Isn't it funny how you can change the perspective as if the white shirt is on top of the face layer? Oh, how I love the shadow effect of papercutting! It does take a lot of time to photograph the finished work for the colours to come out right, but that's part of the challenge I suppose;)

This is wonderful. And your brain does trick you into thinking the sleeves are there; I hadn't realized they weren't. XD Thanks for showing your process, I find is super intriguing. <3

I had no idea that your black layer was all one piece. Great design there! It's a wonderful piece of cover art--"discusses" the story without giving it away. Thank you again!

I'm not in the HP fandom, but still enjoyed this. It's quite a tribute to Alan Rickman, although I know that isn't why you made it.

I haven't read HP fanfic in a long time, it was fun to revisit the fandom and extra special to visualize Alan Rickman's Snape. :)
