spn_meanttobe Prompt:35. One Night With Her Roommate
"Ever since her former roommates deserted her, Meg has had to share an apartment with a lazy, obnoxious ass. He won’t pick up after himself, and he refuses to get a good job. Plus, he doesn’t always wear enough clothes—which is really a problem, because he’s hot.
Maybe he’s occasionally funny. And every now and then he can be sweet. But mostly he’s just annoying. It doesn’t matter how much he’s starting to flirt with her—Meg is going to resist. She’s way too smart to fall for a guy who never takes anything seriously. But then everything changes in only one night…"
:) And this is what we turned that into:

SUMMARY
When Jared moves in with Jensen, Jensen’s life is turned upside down. Jared is a terrible roommate; messy, loud and entirely obnoxious. Unfortunately, he’s also pretty hot and even kinda nice when his socks aren’t clogging up the sink. Not that Jensen would ever do anything about that, because Jared is straight and a giant slob. Or so Jensen thinks.

ALTERNATE COVER
Besides the flowery romance cover, I also made this seventies pulp fiction version.

Did you spot the slight paint effect I added to both photos?
(I tried to imitate that Harlequin cover style;)
As with all images in this post: click for a closer look!
DIVIDERS
The romance version won and the rest of the artwork is in the same style.

An alternative divider with flowercircle was disregarded in favor of the free socks:

I also made a box of cereals and rainbow mug, for reasons:)
WANT YOUR OWN ROOMMATE? GRAB YOUR SCISSORS!
Make your own Jared and dress him in his funky clothes.
Simply print the sheets and start playing!

Click to see A4 printsize (then right-click and save:)
BEHIND THE SCENES

Sketching with an inspiring reference *grins* (plus my old Jared bobble head - see link below) and cutting the final version.
It works: Jared can stand without support \o/ Trying on his first outfit:)
I made the printsheet slightly smaller than my model to be able to include more clothes. (I adjusted the size of those digitally). Designing outfits is a lot of fun!

Colouring Jared for his very first fashion show:

A funky button up with folded collar and faded T-shirt plus jeans

With his precious cereal and Jensen's rainbow mug. Plus those infamous gray sweatpants;)
Black boxers with yellow socks and green comfy shorts plus sneakers.
Now show me how you dress him up!
CREDITS
Thank you,
ashtraythief for asking me to join you for this Meant To Be summary. If we hadn't had to extend our collaboration, I wouldn't have come up with the idea of the dress-up roommate; that was fun!
Kudos to the
spn_meanttobe mod
tebtosca for being so patient with everyone this round, *smishes*.
SOURCES
Texture for alternate bookcover from Amka-Stock at DeviantArt (recommended!)
College roommate bodies from US News (I used my own couch to redecorate their room;)
Giant stuffed penguin from Orange Onions | Backwall from the Founded Project
I found cute inspirational dress up dolls on Kiwi Families (the little boy doll looks like a baby Jared!)
BONUS

A cheerleader fantasy (landlord JDM not included:-p)
The end. (Unless someone wants a Making Of of the digital fiddlings for the cover? *g*)
I'd love to hear from you if you decide to play with the paperdoll, but also if you just came over for a giggle;)

Want more? Here's my first set of artwork for this year's Meant to Be - with Danneel and J3!
Also: two years ago I made bobble head paperdolls of Jared, Jensen and Jeff, they come with DIY-printsheets as well: Team Texas: Who's Pulling The Strings Now.

Date: 2016-06-26 07:32 pm (UTC)I bet you had fun doing all this, and it's just as fun to admire :D I just hope Jensen will "lose" the funky button up when he'll pick it up after Jared...

Date: 2016-06-26 08:24 pm (UTC)I hope people make their own Jared and dress him - I remember the Bunty comic I got sometimes used to have those cutout and dress dolls on the back page. No half nekkid Jareds though, sadly.

Date: 2016-07-01 02:34 pm (UTC)Half nekkid Jared might just be the thing to bring cut-out dolls back into fashion *grins*

Date: 2016-07-01 02:43 pm (UTC)Jared's state of (un)dress in the story made me think of those paperdolls and I just had to try and make one:)

Date: 2016-06-26 10:34 pm (UTC)What a brilliant idea. I'm totally going to print and cut the Jared doll items so I can play along with the story. (this is going to be my downtime fun project for next weekend WOOHOO)
The covers are fantastic too - the penguin reminds me of Joey's Hugsy from FRIENDS. :D Beautiful work!

Date: 2016-06-29 09:15 pm (UTC)But the cut-out Jared doll really is the most genius thing ever. Seriously. I am so fricking happy and impressed you got that idea! As soon as I'm done with my fucking thesis, I'll print it out and do all the playing *rubs hands*
Thanks again for being such an amazing collaborator, for cheering me on and being so patient even though I'm such a mess right now. I really hope this won't be our last collaboration, it's always so much fun and so inspiring working with you! <3<3<3<3<3

Date: 2016-07-05 07:56 pm (UTC)And bwahaha! Loved the bonus cheerleader fantasy with bonus landlord JDM not included. You're also too clever. :P
And the book cover, with the sticker coming off. As I said in a previous comment, your art has layers and needs the proper time to be appreciated.
You made me laugh out loud for real with your art and your post - I needed that so, so much. Thank you!! ♥

Date: 2016-07-17 07:16 pm (UTC)Re: the cheerleader outfit... Just like Jared (and Jensen) I am always willing to take things a little further when it comes to JDM, hehehehe.
It pleases me so when you notice the details I sneak into my artsets. *smishes*
