Amsterdam with bonus fangirling!

If you rather check out my artwork than my travelposts, I posted some papercutting for the
quicky_bang yesterday: Mission Accomplished.
If you've seen that already or prefer strolling through Amsterdam with me and
amberdreams and having lunch with her and
sillie82, here are some photos of our fangirl meet up two weeks ago:)
Fangirls and Rembrandt in 3D:)
and a bit of an Amsterdam history lesson in between

First pic is not Amsterdam, but my town Zwolle, taken while I was cycling to the station; second photo is the first view of Amsterdam from the train:)

See? Amsterdam, I am in you! I walked from Central Station through Damrak, look at the fronts of the buildings *chinhands*

A close up before I move on to Dam square with the Royal Palace (yes,
amberdreams it's a Palace. It may not look like it, but that's because it was originally built as a Town Hall in 1655. The building became the royal palace of King Louis Napoleon (brother of Napoleon Bonaparte) in 1806 and later of the Dutch Royal House)

A close up of the top of the Palace. In the Kalverstraat there's this gorgeous alley that leads to the Amsterdam Museum, located in the old city orphanage. The three crosses are the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
I met up with
amberdreams at Muntplein (we walked the route up above in reverse later) and I took her through Reguliersbreestraat to look at old theater (now a movie theater) Tuschinski (1921, such a fine example of Art Deco:)
Then we took a selfie in front of the Nachtwacht at Rembrandts plein (square)*
*Not the painting, but a set of life size sculptures surrounding Rembrandt's statue at Rembrandt's plein (square). It's really cool that you can walk through this Nightwatch and get up close to see al the details (and touch various bodyparts "for good luck";)
After this we just strolled through town (no pictures of the flowermarket, which is really a bulb-market #disappointed)
(The Delfts blue houses are on the carpet in
amberdreams hotel, isn't it pretty?)

We walked along several canals; I forgot to write down where we saw Neptune and these adorable seahorses.

We found a very cute shop in the Leidsestraat (I think...) with darling jewelry, beautiful displays and expensive dresses.
Christiaan Huygens was a prominent Dutch mathematician and scientist (1629 - 1695, he's the inventor of the pendulum clock!).

We met up with
sillie82 for lunch (sadly
big_heart_june had to cancel). This is us in the mirrored ceiling of Julia's where we had pasta. After that we took the ferry accross river IJ (behind the station) and found a lovely hang-out spot in the grass until we all had to catch our trains and trams. *sniffles*
I had a lovely time, ladies! (Too short!)
(I'm catching up on life and LiveJournal, I'm planning to finally answer comments AND post another picspam of my recent adventures later this week.;)
